Shem tried to silence his mind, silently repeating the truth, lips dancing slowly and carefully, the weight of the words pressing his skin.  
"Aware or not, the darkness resides.  
I can push, And in return be pulled.  
All is quiet.  
Balance is all that I seek after.  
When I sleep, the darkness does not."  
Over and over, the sounds played through his conciousness, raking memories back from the recesses and corners of his mind.  
"I am failing." the thought was a mix of feelings, apprehension, frustration, and a final sadness lingered.  
Silence was speeding towards him.
