This was actually an English assignment - we had to write a short story of exactly 100 words.
This the condensed concept of a scene I have planned for my next novel series, Breakdown, which is basically about an alien virus that mutates people and results in the zombie apocalypse.

  Gunfire blazed.  
   Shade stared blankly at the body before her. Matt. The man she loved. By now the bite mark on his neck had started closing.  
   Michael saw it rising, and the girl he loved waiting beside it. "Shade!" but it was too late. The creature bit into her arm.  
   Michael pulled her away, firing into Matt's shell. It fell.  
   "I'm infected," Shade gasped, collapsing onto Michael.  
   "It's gonna be okay," he said, producing a grenade. The corpse groaned.  
   As Matt's flesh rose once more, Michael let go of the lever.  
   Soon more came to feed on their charred remains...
