The Wolf of the Night

Oh, wolf of the night, what darkness you bring,
Your howling announces the setting sun;
Over sacred forests where your brethren sing,
To the rising moon, a wondrous one.

As a child of Fenrir, I see in your eyes,
The suffering caused by this modern world;
Longing to live free under arcane skies,
Yet into steel and smoke you are hurled.

Oh, wolf of the night, please lend me your paw,
As I wander through the gnarled forest path;
For these woodlands are ruled by ancient law,
And forever protected by Odin's wrath.

You call yourself Judas and I call you friend,
A shared meeting between a wolf and a man;
Modernity's woes made your species contend,
To rightfully claim their ancestral land.

Oh, wolf of the night, tell me what you find,
Beneath the branches of each stately oak;
Teach me the tales of your mysterious kind,
Past down from Managarm to all lupine folk.

The changing of seasons bring forth a new year,
To which will be heralded with the wolves' call;
And yet all shall bow and shed a lone tear,
As they watch sadly the ancient runes fall.

Oh, wolf of the night, I must bid thee farewell,
For it is time I leave your hallowed ground;
But know that one day, my spirit shall dwell,
Within these sacred woods and all around.
