Here's it in a nutshell of sorts.","content":"It's news, what news, this news\n\nThe news you've been waiting for\n\nIt's time, finally, the moment\n\nThat event that you've been praying for\n\nStaying up for, flaying for, craving for\n\nHe finally found it, he's employed\n\n\u0026nbsp;\n\nOut without a job for months\n\nDesperately pulling him from the dumps\n\nConstantly encouraging and pushing\n\nAway the worrying and reassuring\n\nHim to keep hurrying and to keep trying\n\nAnd now he got a call, he got the job\n\n\u0026nbsp;\n\nI've felt his pain and his anguish\n\nBeen there every step of the way\n\nClosest friend of mine for three years\n\nSo many conversations over so many days\n\nAnd now, the elation of his success\n\nThe fact that we're both out of this mess\n\nThe ease of the lifting of the burden of stress\n\nIt's not a lot, but it's a start and that's all I ever wanted for him\n\n\u0026nbsp;\n\nBut then all goes silent, three minutes of it\n\nNo response, no writing, nothing added\n\nThe literature of the world of Skype dead\n\nAnd then he comes back\n\nHe got another phone call, one he had been expecting\n\nThe same blasted one he had been dreading\n\nThat one I had just told him to stop fretting\n\nAbout. The position was filled internally, he's no longer needed\n\n\u0026nbsp;\n\nAnd now, I don't know what to say, what to feel\n\nI'm not sure if there's anything I can do\n\nIt's like I'm stuck in a merciless fray and they deal\n\nMe and him nothing but blows and blows\n\nAnd our blood flows and it flows\n\nDripping from our abused minds to our toes\n\nI can't even keep track of where it goes\n\nAll I know is that I understand his pain, his torture\n\nBut I can't know how it feels\n\n\u0026nbsp;\n\nAnd so what is it I'm supposed to do here\n\nFrom so far away I can't stop what I fear\n\nThat the orders to the states might not come\n\nThat instead they might send me to Rome\n\nOr some place as equally far away as the sun\n\nIn our minds, the hurt blinds our eyes\n\nAnd we're too far away to even grasp at each other\n\n\u0026nbsp;\n\nNow he's in shock, but that will turn to misery\n\nWhich will turn to depression, which will turn to disgust\n\nIn turn leading to guilt and then accusations that he failed\n\nAnd the one moment I thought we would celebrate\n\nTurns into one in which I salivate\n\nTo feed upon the one that hurt him\n\nThough I don't know where to turn\n\nI don't know what city there is to burn\n\nWhat world I can throw into the furn....ace\n\n\u0026nbsp;\n\nThere's no one to blame, nothing to lay eyes on\n\nIt's just life, and in this economy, and in this market\n\nPain becomes your only friend if you don't have a job\n\nI do all I can from here, but when you're slapped so hard\n\nSometimes you question your resolve\n\nYou wonder if you should even get back up again\n\nHow do I tell him to keep trying after this?\n\nHow do I pull him back up from the abyss?\n\n\u0026nbsp;\n\nWhy does life choose to offer happiness on a dish\n\nThen wrench it back and leave nothing but anguish?\n\nWhat did he do, what did we do, to deserve this?\n\nWhile he lies curled on his bed in a ball\n\nI'll head back to my computer and try to comfort him\n\nTry to remind him, to remind me, that somehow\n\nLife is more than just a gasp of elation, followed by a devastating fall.\n\n  \n  \n\n","series":{"name":"Poems","previous":"https://fse.anthro.fr/stories/469253-suicide.json","next":"https://fse.anthro.fr/stories/536500-feline-seduction.json"}}
