#82 of Poetry

It's a poem about feeling alone in the world, even though you really aren't. I think we all feel this way sometimes. I know I do.

_Lights_

Something in the air breathes
I can see it in the frosty air
But I do not see anyone there

Maybe I just have selective blindness
Or maybe I've gone mad
Either way, I see wafts of frosty breath
Appearing at regular intervals

As I walk around at night
Beneath the city street lamps
Glowing in the frosty air,
I notice other little clouds of breath
With no mouths to produce them

I walk to school, and no one is there
So I walk home, and no one is there either
I go online, and no one is online
I wonder where everyone has gone

It's strange, but somehow
Those little clouds beneath the little lights
Tell me that everyone hasn't gone
But that they're just not there

So I wrap myself up in words
Written on the paper in front of me
Hoping that another can look upon them
And understand what I feel.
