Leather Collar slave Kevin learns Home Duty and is led Outside.

Kevin Foxboy 9) Home Duty

I was given new Training, and new Duty. I Begged for it, to
ease my mind pain from knowing of Betty's body pain. Home Duty was a
lot like Kitchen Duty only a smaller kitchen for just a few Humans.
But like a lot of what Humans told mixes, one part of Duty got smaller
while most of it got bigger. Now there were half a dozen rooms for
different Humans to eat, sleep, sit and talk, or play games in. I was
a fox; I ate, slept and knelt in one den; why did Humans need so many
rooms?

Don't argue, Kevin. Just Learn and Obey. This Training was to
Keep the Rooms Clean. More hot water in deep trays, but different soap.
It smelled bad, what was it doing to my fur? Put some new soap in the
water, push a cloth through it, push it with both front paws out of the
water so it was a little wet, rub the floor. Back in the water. Rub all
the floor. And the walls. And above my head. Ceiling. Rub. The water
got dark. Take the deep tray to the kitchen, the sink, put the water
in, make sure it went down the hole. The Drain. More hot water in the
deep tray. More new soap. More Rub.

I saw the water get dark; the floors, walls and ceilings got
wet then less dark. If I did Wash the Walls one day the water didn't
get dark the next day. The walls and ceilings were Clean. The floors
didn't stay Clean; Humans and mixes walked on them. I was given thick
towels about a meter long and three-quarters of a meter wide to put at
the Doors. They were Throw Rugs. If Humans rubbed their boots or mixes
rubbed their back paws on them the floor stayed Clean longer. I wanted
everyone to rub on the Throw Rugs. But what do I do when the Throw Rugs
get dirty?

I learned about Clothes Washer. Some Humans had more than one
so I would beg to know which I could use for Throw Rugs that had been
on the floor. I was told it was good I could use these boxes, I didn't
have to clean Rugs by paw like the floors and walls. I'd been getting
stronger every day but this cleaning again and again was very tiring.
Often I was sore, a little pain.

But I had the floors clean. Some had square shapes on them that
got shiny as I cleaned, other floors were wood. Now they were clean and
I was told another secret. A hole in the wall to put a very long snout,
almost two meters long into. A plate on the wall that made a noise. Rub
the floor with a brush on the snout. Air moved quickly through the
snout into the wall, I could hear it. It was a Whole House Vacuum
Cleaner. I saw it eat dirt from the floors and Throw Rugs. It was so
hungry I had to hold the rugs down or they would stick in the snout.
The wall plate was odd; if I pushed it once the sound was soft, push
again louder, push again very loud, push four times quiet! When Humans
weren't looking I pushed the sound soft and rubbed the snout over
myself because the cool air felt good on my fur!

So some of Clean the House was fun. What if the floor was more
than two meters from the wall hole? There were more wall holes! They
had a cover that went over the hole when the snout, I mean the hose,
was taken out. I could put the hose in another wall hole and keep
rubbing the floor. I just had to go back to the wall plate to turn it
back off, so it could sleep. I had it eat softly when I was Dusting
the Furniture or the Bookshelf or the Wall Paintings, very loud when
I was cleaning the Whole Floor Rugs.

So I learned to clean the house and laundry. More of Home Duty
was to cook food; I had already learned to wash my paws and wash
dishes. I had now learned Home Duty.

It had now been a year since I was seeded and I was as old as
a Human at eight. I had learned Kitchen Duty and Home Duty, but it was
hard for such a young foxboy. As I Grew Up I became stronger and could
keep up with Duty longer before resting. I had been tamed, letting
Humans Command me and mixes lead me. I had a new Duty pushed on me
when Gray Hair the boss Human came to the kennel one morning, took
my leash from Clarence the Chrome Collar wolfboy, and led me through
a new Hallway to a new door. It had no plate to push Open!

Instead Gray Hair spoke to His hand and said some odd words
I can't remember. A Human answered Him and they talked for a few
seconds. I jumped when I heard a loud buzzing but He just opened the
door and pulled my whole body through by the leash. I looked around,
but didn't see any walls! For the first time in my young life! And what
were all those scents? My'an Day-Master had led His foxboy Outside!

It was all Too Much Too Soon as I mind-froze again! I was
getting used to it enough that I knelt as Gray Hair let my mouth hang
open for a while. He knew what Outside did to mixes. He teased me,
"Kevin, you wanted to know new things and don't like to Wait. This is
what you wanted. New. No Wait." It took a long time for me to think
again and close my mouth. "I ... I was wrong, Master. Please, no more
New! Please let your big afraid foxboy go back to Duty!" I looked and
looked but there were no walls; walls and doors and cages seemed a big
comfort to me now I had lost them. What was out there, waiting for me?
Wolves to eat me? I started shaking, remembering Betty's buyer. What
had killed Him? It was Out Here! Was it that odd shadow so far away,
that moved but stayed where it was? Was it something behind me, getting
ready to pounce on my terrified body Now!

I turned quickly but there was nothing! We were meters away
from the kennel! I had no word for ... IT, the thing Out Here; It was
behind me again, ready to bite, but when I turned It was always behind
me! Never seen, always so close It would Bite Open Rip Up and later
Kill me! I could feel Its hot breath on my neck! I shook and whimpered,
but when I looked there was only Gray Hair finally showing mercy to His
poor slave foxboy and dragging me bodily back to the Door, to the
Kennel, to the safety of Cage and Duty and Obey and Submit ...

\* \* \*

It took me the whole day to stop shaking. This was worse than
Chain Up on the Wall and Submit to the Whip! That was Pain, given by
a Human. But it was something I could see coming at me. Something I
knew would stop when I begged to Obey! I couldn't see what was coming
Outside! It wouldn't listen, didn't demand Obey. It just wanted me.
My body. My blood. My life.

I learned there was a Little Outside, between the Kennel and
the Duty Training Rooms. I had seen it from Kitchen but hadn't known
what it was. Part of Outside that had been caged by Walls, tamed by
Walk Ways, small and not so big freezing scary. Betty and I were
allowed to go there sometimes; she showed me there was no one to eat
me and I showed her there was someone, even just another mix, who
liked her and touched her and didn't push her away.
