They wander the land, soar through the skies  \nand swim the deepest oceans. This is the wondrous world of pokemon.\n\nHumans and pokemon live and fight together  \nin pokemon battles, but this story takes place far from the lands of humans...\n\n**His name is Dash**\n\nCory and her vulpix friend Sune made their  \nway through the bushes towards the sound of running water.\n\n\"See, see, I told you there was a stream  \nhere.\" The joyful chikorita said as she skipped out of the bushes.\n\nThe small vulpine followed her friend into  \nthe clearing and noticed that there in fact was a stream of fresh, clear water  \nrunning through it. Suddenly she froze and starred at something lying next to  \nthe stream.\n\n\"Cory, what is that?\" she whispered timidly.\n\nCory stopped skipping around and looked towards  \nthe object by the stream. It was a body! She crept closer to examine it and  \nnoticed that it was a small pokemon. He was covered in brown fur with a white  \n\"collar\" round his neck. But the strangest part was the thing hanging from his  \nright ear. It looked like a strange kind of cross.\n\n\u0026nbsp;\n\n\"Are you okay?\" she asked as she nudged the  \nunknown pokemon before her.\n\nHe stirred and began to wake up.\n\n\"Where... where am I?\" he began to rise up,  \nthen he saw Cory and Sune and jumped backwards in shock. \"You... you are  \npokemon?!\"\n\n\"Of course we're pokemon,\" Cory replied  \nslightly confused. \"So are you. I mean, I have never seen a pokemon like you,  \nbut there are lots of pokemon that I've never seen so I'm pretty sure you are a  \npokemon because you can talk and if you can talk then that means you're  \nsentient and, that is a funny word isn't it... sentient... what was I talking  \nabout? Anyway, what's your name? Are you alright? My name is Cory. I like  \npoffins, do you like poffins? Oh! And this is Sune, she is shy. Are you shy? Your  \nfur looks soft, is it soft? Can I feel? What is that thing in your ear?\"\n\nThe nonstop flow of words made the stranger  \njust stand there looking dumbfounded. As the stream of words continued he noticed  \nhis reflection in the water and jumped back again.\n\n\"I... I'm an eevee!\"\n\n\"That's nice,\" Cory replied. \"Why do you  \nlook scared? Do you scare easily? Why were you lying by the stream? Did  \nsomething happen to you?\"\n\n\u0026nbsp;\n\n\"M... my name is Dash. I remember crossing a  \nrope bridge... and falling into the river,\" he stopped as if realizing something.  \n\"How did I end up here?\"\n\n\"I don't know. There isn't any rivers  \naround here for miles. And I should know because I know this place like the  \nback of my hand, I don't actually have hands, it's a figure of speech.\"\n\n\"His fur is wet.\"\n\nThey both turned to look at Sune. She  \nseemed uncomfortable with the attention but continued.\n\n\"His fur is wet as if he'd been swimming  \nbut the stream is too small for that.\"\n\n\"I see,\" Cory mused. \"It is just big enough  \nto drink from. So if Dash's wet fur didn't come from the stream, where did it  \ncome from?\"\n\n\"Probably from the same place that he is  \nfrom. Remember that he said he fell into a river.\"\n\n\"Yes, that's right. Where are you from  \nanyway, Dash?\"\n\nDash turned his face away.\n\n\"I... I'm not sure. Are... are there any humans  \nhere?\"\n\nSune and Cory froze.\n\n\"Humans? But they are just fairy tales,\"  \nCory said.\n\nDash was about to say something when a loud  \nroar echoed through the clearing and a large creature landed in front of them.  \nIt was covered in a brown carapace and stood on two legs, its arms ended in a  \npair of massive scythe like talons.\n\n\u0026nbsp;\n\n\"It's a kabutops! Run!\" yelled Dash and  \nbolted into the forest. Sune and Cory close behind. But the kabutops was faster  \nand blocked their way. Sune let lose an ember attack but the larger pokemon  \ndidn't even pay attention to it.\n\n\"That won't work!\" Dash exclaimed. \"It's a  \nrock and water type. Fire moves are almost useless.\"\n\nKabutops fired a powerful stream of water  \nand mud from its mouth, just barely missing Sune, but still knocking her to the  \nground. Dash dug his front paw into the ground and flung some dirt towards the  \nthreat. In mid-air it transformed into a cloud of sand and hit kabutops right  \nin the face blinding it. It gave up a terrible shriek and began flailing with  \nits deadly scythe like arms.\n\n\"You're a grass type! Use a grass move.\"  \nDash yelled at Cory.\n\nCory swung the big leaf on top of her head,  \nsending a swarm of razor leafs at the kabutops who was knocked over and fell to  \nthe ground.\n\n\"Sune! Do you know roar?\" Dash asked as he  \nhelped her up. She nodded and gave of a roar that seemed more appropriate to a  \nmuch larger creature then the small vixen. It tore into the kabutops, who was  \nstruggling to its feet, and sent it flying into the forest. The three small  \npokemon left as fast as they could, just in case the danger wasn't over yet.\n\n\u0026nbsp;\n\nMuch later the trio arrived at a village by  \na trio of mighty mountains. By that time they had left the forest behind and were  \nnow traveling through a rocky terrain with much thinner foliage.\n\n\"What was the deal with that guy anyway?\"  \nCory asked as they entered the village, finally feeling safer now that they  \nwere in public.\n\n\"No idea,\" Dash replied. \"Maybe he got  \nangry because we entered his territory or something.\"\n\n\"So he wasn't chasing you?\" Sune asked  \ngiving Dash a look that indicated she did not fully trust him. \"A water gun  \nblast would explain why you were soaked when we found you.\"\n\n\"Except kabutops can't learn water gun,\"  \nDash countered. \"The only water type attacks it can learn are aqua jet and in  \nsome cases bubble beam.\"\n\nSune became silent and looked ashamed.\n\n\"Wow! You know a lot about pokemon  \nattacks!\" Cory said.\n\n\"Excuse me for interrupting, but did I hear  \nyou mention a tussle with a kabutops?\"\n\nThe three turned to face a huge archanine  \nwho had come up to them. He wore a nice green scarf around his neck that had  \nsome kind of symbol on it.\n\n\u0026nbsp;\n\n\"Yes,\" Cory answered. \"He was such a  \nmeanie. He just attacked us out of the blue and used a mud shot attack on Sune.  \nBut I hit him with my razor leafs so we could run away.\"\n\n\"I see,\" the archinine said and continued.  \n\"My name is Clint, I uphold the law in these parts, and that kabutops is a  \ndangerous criminal that we have been after a long time. Can you tell me where  \nand when it happened?\"\n\nAfter telling Clint everything they knew,  \nwhich wasn't much really, he told them about the villainous kabutops.\n\n\"He's called Slitter and the reason he  \nattacked you are probably because of your little vulpix friend. He likes fire  \ntypes you see. I'll send a team to investigate the forest right away. Just be  \nglad you all got away safely.\"\n\nSunes face became so pale that you could  \nsee it even through her fur.\n\n\"May I suggest that at least one of the  \npokemon in the team can use grass type attacks,\" Dash said as Clint turned to  \nleave. \"Fighting, electric and ground type moves should also be effective  \nagainst him.\"\n\n\"I'll keep that in mind,\" Clint said and  \nwalked away.\n\n\u0026nbsp;\n\nLater they had rented a room in an inn and  \nwere making themselves comfortable. Cory had insisted to pay for Dash's board  \nwhen she learned that he had no money.\n\n\"We are traveling to take part in the poke  \nbattle contest,\" Cory told Dash. \"We have a long way to go but we have already  \nbecome much stronger. Did you see how my razor leafs just blew that villain to  \nhis knees?\"\n\n\"That was because grass type moves are  \nsuper effective against him.\"\n\nCory winced a little at the remark. Not  \nhappy to admit that she was not as awesome as she had thought.\n\n\"Yes, but even if the damage was doubled it  \nwas still impressive that I managed to bring him to his knees in one shot.\"\n\n\"It wasn't doubled. He was a rock and water  \ntype, so the attack did four times normal damage,\" Dash explained and tried not  \nto laugh as Cory's jaw hit the floor.\n\n\"Um... oh! Stay right here! I just have to go  \nout for a while! Be right back!\" she said and ran out of the room.\n\nAfter she had left Dash tried to make some conversation  \nwith Sune but she just gave him short to the point answers that stopped any  \nattempts to continue talking so he curled up in his bed to rest. After a while  \nhe heard Sune's voice.\n\n\u0026nbsp;\n\n\"Dash... the reason you know so much about  \npokemon attacks... the reason you have that earring... you used to be owned by a  \nhuman trainer, didn't you.\"\n\nDash sat up in a flash. Shock plain in his  \nface. Sune stood by his bed. She looked as if she was about to start crying.\n\n\"He pierced your ear to mark you as his  \nproperty and made you fight other pokemon didn't he?\" she paused hesitantly. \"I...  \nI know this because I too used to belong to a human. They... they are really  \nawful creatures aren't they!\"\n\nDash didn't know what to say. Suddenly Cory  \nrushed into the room and threw a bunch of papers on the table.\n\n\"Okay, Dash sign these.\"\n\nDash jumped out of his bed and went over to  \nthe table. The papers were full of strange writing that he could not read.\n\n\"What are these?\"\n\n\"Registration forms. I'm registering you as  \nour teams coach!\"\n\n\"What!? Why?\"\n\n\"Because with you as our coach we'll become  \nsuper strong and win the tournament, silly! Just put a paw print here!\"\n\nSune went over to Dash.\n\n\"Go ahead. Sign, it's not like you have  \nanything better to do. Besides it would be fun to have another teammate.\"\n\n\u0026nbsp;\n\nDash finally gave up and put a paw print on  \nthe papers. They were right. He didn't have anything better to do. And even if  \nhis memories were correct, and he really hoped they were, there was nothing he  \ncould do about it. He might as well stick with them for a while until he knew  \nwhat to do.\n\nAfter Cory had declared tonight \"party  \nnight\" they had stayed up late partying until they finally went to bed. Before  \nDash fell asleep he heard Sune's voice.\n\n\"Dash... sorry I accused you for causing that  \nmess before. Good night.\"\n\nThat night he dreamt about a hyperactive  \nChikorita who wanted to win the prestigious poke battle championship and a shy  \nvulpix who hated humans. He did not enjoy the later part.\n\n  \n  \n\n","next":"https://fse.anthro.fr/stories/555650-part-2-the-coach-and-the-master.json"}
