Lord Afir of Solan, has requested for travellers to seek he out at Solan Keep for very important quest." a rather small, but very well-dressed crow called out to a flock of people standing around to listen as he spoke the new rumors and news circulating the small village of Solan. Not far from the flock, a male fox named Gillis stood and listened with his two companions, a male eagle named Nolat, a male naga named Snake and a shemale wolf named Onyx, as he thought for himself and spoke to his companions, "I think we shall go and talk to this Lord Afir. Perhaps there is a good reward for us to collect." His companions nodded as Nolat spoke up, "Then lets head to the keep before some other travelling party takes OUR reward." After asking a guard quickly for the way, they headed towards the keep in search of fortune. Not far ahead, a small travelling party of their own was heading towards the keep, all of them giving off the aura of dominance and respect as they were walking. The habitants of the village moved aside as Jaeger, a male snake; Tonyx, a male dingo; Amethyst, a herm dragon; and Veedway, a male dragon, passed them by, led by who seemed to been the self-appointed leader of the group, Shadoweye, a herm chimeric dragon. Jaeger looks around before he could notice the other group advancing really fast towards the keep, quickly calling out to Shadoweye, "Hey, Lady Shadoweye, lets run, we got others wanting our bounty." Shadoweye don't even look back before Amethyst is looking at the other group before she stopped in her track, having the group following them quickly slow down before she stopped them, "Listen, this is our reward, so get lost now." Gillis gave her an irritating look before grabbing his swords, "We are better equipped than you five, so stand back." Just as the two were glaring daggers at each other, Onyx spoke up for a quick moment, "Why don't we join up forces for it? The more we are, the faster we will get it done and over with." The two kept glaring daggers before nodding and not saying a single word as all nine of them walked to the keep. When arriving at the doorstep, two guards were looking them over and let them inside, "The lord is waiting in the library on the second floor. Just take the stairs and it is the third door on the right in the left wing." Thanking the guard for his polite help, they ascended the stairs and followed his directions before knocking on the door, a very aristocratic voice calling out, "What is it? I wished to not be disturbed unless it is of importance." "We are coming to accept your quest of dire need, your lordness." Gillis spoke before opening the door and letting themselves in before the lord could even reply. Turning around, the tall male wolf looked at group entering and gave them a small smile, "I must say, I was expecting a small group and not a small army. I am Lord Afir. And who may I be having the honor of speaking to?" The nine looked at each other before introducing themselves one by one. Amethyst - "I'm Amethyst of the House of Ironscale, Ardent and follower of Bahamut, and master spearwoman." Gillis - "My name is Gillis Haege, of the House of Kitsuna, the bounty hunter of justice." Jaeger - "Name's Jaeger of the House of Grimsnake, also known as Jaeger the Venomous." Nolat - "I'm Nolat of the House of Silkwing, master swordmage and illusionist." Onyx - "My name, your honorable lordness, is Onyx, Cleric of Pelor and exorcist against evils that taint our world." Shadoweye - "The honor is all ours, my lord. I am Queen Shadoweye of Morgova, honorable duelist and tactical expert." Snake - "I'm Snake of the House of Cobraz and current Ranger Lord." Tonyx - "My name is Tonyx of the House of Summerbreeze, righteous fighter for the ones who are too weak to defend themselves." Veedway - "I am Veedway of the House of Constantine, Paladin of Bahamut and protector of my friends and allies." The introductions made Afir's eyes raise a bit, they weren't your ordinary mercenaries you picked from the road, they were all honorable people as well. Letting the words sink in, he soon found the words again, "It is a great honor for me too, you came here to seek for the quest I sought travellers for. It is just a small cleaning of some nuisance at the Crypt of Mooncleave. Some guards have heard rumors from travellers about vermins running in and out of the crypt at night, some even attacking the travellers and taking their package back into their lair. I want you to go to the crypt and check up if the rumors are true or false. Anything you find will be yours, but I will only pay you if you can show proof of the rumors being true or false." The group didn't needed any more information as they bowed and Gillis spoke up, "I can make sure that we will bring back a positive answer with no lies, Lord Afir." With those words, the nine left the library after the lord handed them a map over the area, the crypt marked with a red circle around it. Taking the map and looking at it, Snake sighed, "Seems like we got a half days walk in front of us." As they were travelling towards the crypt, a storm appeared out of nowhere, forcing them to take cover in an abandon house. There was food still standing on the table in the dining room, enough for three people to eat. Instead of eating the food, they packed it into Snake's backpack just as the sound of the door opening to the house, all nine of them watching as two goblins entered, surprised with finding them there, "Looks like we got some intruders!" Seeing how they were only two, the group got themselves ready for battle. First one to make a move is Onyx who brings out her holy symbol to pray for a radiant strike, however the strike is dodged by the goblin she had targetted, leaving Tonyx open to swing his fullblade towards the same goblin that had dodged her attack, but the swing missed and hit a chair instead. Amethyst had focused herself on taking care of the other goblin, quickly moving in and delivering a heavy strike towards the goblin, managing to deliver a rather swift cut that didn't left much of a wound afterwards. Seeing how both the goblins are moving backwards and grabbing their javelins, throwing one towards Tonyx and Amethyst, Tonyx quickly shielding himself with his sword, hearing how Amethyst getting hit by the javelin and watches it hang from the side of her stomach as she gasps from it. Snake takes out an arrow and fires it before taking out another one and firing at the same goblin that hurt Amethyst, seeing one arrow missing as the other pierces into the goblin's chest, the blood beginning to slowly pour out of the wound as it moves backwards before feeling how something inside his body was burning when Jaeger curses the goblin before firing off a spell, which sends the goblin into a wall as the curse burns out the last of its life, leaving the only remaining goblin to watch in fear at his companion's execution. The sight had left the goblin unable to move for a bit before Nolat spoke out to him, "Unless you wanna join him, I suggest you surrender." Putting his pride on the line, the goblin shaked his head in reply, "No, I stay and fight! Boss will give me a big reward for your heads." Seeing no other way to speak to the goblin, Nolat grabbed his own fullblade and moved in quickly to deliver a powerful swing towards it, green flames covering the sword as it began to cut across the goblin's chest, the scream of pain from the goblin echoing in the house before the sound of heavy armor could be heard when Shadoweye moved in closer, delivering a swipe with her axe towards the goblin as a louder scream of pain could be heard as the axe chopped right into the already bloody wound and soon got held by the throat by her. The sound of someone approaching quickly makes him fight back from being held by her as Gillis made his way behind the scared goblin before readying one of his blades and swinging against the back of the goblin, the blade cutting deeply into the goblin and soon his spine was showing for them all. The goblin just bites his teeth together before he could hear the heaviest sound of armor coming towards him and moving behind him. The sudden scream could be heard when Veedway grabs the goblin's spine and tears it right out of the now lifeless goblin before throwing it aside and walking over to Amethyst to help her heal the wound she got after pulling out the javelin that had now snapped. Deciding to rest up, they began to loot the goblins of what they had been carrying, salvaging a few javelins, some spears and what is left of some leather armor, aswell as a few silver and copper coins. Waiting for Veedway to help Amethyst getting back on her feet, they could see how the night was beginning to fall and they decided sleep over night in the house, having someone guarding while the others slept and changed every hour until morning came and they had eaten one of their rations before heading out on the road again. Following it for the next couple of hours, they kept themselves occupied with conversations, arriving at what seems to be the crypt at the break of day, watching as three bloodied scorpions came running out of the crypt's entrance, not bothering to even attack the travelling group and ran towards the forest. Seeing no other choice now, they all grab their weapons and begins to enter the old crypt. The inside of the crypt was a bit warm and the illumination is average, enough of them to see as they are able to notice the iron door, but also able to notice the lock trap on the door, Nolat moves closer to look at it, "Seems like someone is not wanting to be disturbed so easily here. Think anyone of you can disable it?" Looking at one another, Snake soon sighs as he makes his way closer, "I am not proficient with the art, but I can still try." Grabbing an arrow from his quiver, Snake leans in to work with the mechanics of the lock, feeling the pins jumping into place before he pushes all of the arrow in and soon hears the device giving up before he pulls the arrow out and smiles to his companions, "Seems we all got a thief inside us." Feeling on the door, he feels that it is stuck in place, so he is moving backwards and fires an arrow at the door, the velocity and power from the lone arrow being enough to leave a mark on the surface of the door, before Shadoweye moves in closer and makes a leaping strike at the door with her axe ready at hand, delivering a mighty blow before she spun around to strike with her fist, missing it and instead spinning around one more time before moving backwards in dizziness. As the others watches on, Nolat brings his fullblade out once more and swings at the door, making a powerful contact as the green flames covering the sword is spreading across the entire surface of the door, slowly beginning to melt it away. Making a swift leap, Tonyx grabs his own fullblade before swinging towards the door after jumping over Shadoweye, the sword hitting the melting mass and cutting down a good bit on it. Noticing how the door is nearly unlocked now by unprofessional means, they watch as Veedway is making his way over and moves Tonyx aside before using the hilt of his sword to knock the door, without any result. Looking ashamed of the result, Veedway steps aside as Jaeger fires off a spell and manages to break the door open enough for them to slowly slide it open a bit. As Tonyx looks inside and notices the traps and also the same scorpions as before, Snake moves closer to look inside aswell, noticing the traps and then the scorpions, trying to remember his lessons about all the species inhabiting the world. It doesn't take him long enough as he gasps, "I remember now. Those are stormclaw scorpions. They usually hunt by night and they often infest desert tombs and ruins, since they like to nest in dark places. Their claws is what makes them special, they are crackling with electricity. Also, there are traps in there and it seems to be pressure plates here. Give me a second to try something." Taking his bow and pulling out an arrow, he pulls the string back before taking aim at what he thinks is a pressure plate, letting it go after carefully aiming and sees the arrow hitting the plate and catching the attention of one of the scorpions that are moving over to the arrow. When the scorpion steps on the pressure plate, the trap activates and the scorpion gets itself and some of its friends bathed in the acid spraying out from one of the traps. Complete panic breaks out as the scorpions are now triggering the other traps in the room. The party watches the small show inside the room, before they begin to push the door open when the last trap has been set off before seeing how four of the six scorpions was laying dead on the floor while two were still standing, one of them bloodied and seeming to still wanna put up a fight. Preparing themselves for the battle, Gillis charges in and swings his swords at the scorpion that doesn't bleed, hoping to get a few cuts on it as he delivers a light swing on top of the head on it before leaping to the side and swinging out at the bleeding one, but misses as it blocks with the tail, leaving him in a bad position. Noticing the first scorpion moving over towards him, he is worried as it soon latches out with one of the claws, being denied by an expert manuever from Gillis as the other scorpion latches out in hope to catch him and does so, pinching hard as the fox is screaming gently in pain. Having been watching it all, Amethyst rushes in with her spear high in the air, charging up energy in it before attempting a strike at the scorpion holding Gillis, only to hit the floor next to it instead. Gillis grunts out at her, "Learn to use your weapon next time!" Hearing the painful scream, Onyx was following after Amethyst before seeing for herself what trouble Gillis had gotten himself into, her holy symbol coming forth in her hand as she aims for the scorpion and fires off a radiant lance, the lance piercing the scorpion's defense and shattering inside to leave a hole right through it, enough to kill it on the spot. Looking at the now only standing scorpion, Snake prays to Melora for a good shot before he ready his bow with an arrow and carefully aims before letting the arrow travel through the air, but notices it just bouncing off the top of it and hitting a wall, "Are they wearing armor or something?" Taking the distraction from the arrow as a cover, Shadoweye moves quickly towards the scorpion, ready for anything it may do to her before she delivers a blow towards the head of it with her axe, managing to dig it a bit in before she tries to punch it hard, but only ends up hurting herself from how hard the chitin really is. Nolat can hear the fight going on in the room and wastes no time running right in and charging the scorpion with a fearsome leap as the fullblade once again baths in green flames, the blade just managing to cut down a bit into the scorpion's top before Tonyx holds out a holy symbol to fire off a bolt of radiant light at the scorpion, the blast when the bolt explodes being enough to tear the scorpion apart entirely. Looking around quickly, they are not noticing any more scorpions, but they do notice a treasure chest which they move over to and opens up, finding it to be unlocked as they look inside, Nolat quickly making his way over and pushing the others aside to get to it, "Let me have a look here." As he took a look inside, he could find a spiked gauntlet, but it was giving off an aura of magic which he is deciding to check a bit deeper, finding out it hurts more on enemies that haven't been injured at all. Putting it aside for later, he keeps rummaging through the treasures to find a few scrolls containing the ritual for summoning a floating disk and a waist which also gives off an aura of magic, a quick check making it known to be a belt to empower the healing. The loot quickly finds its way into Snake's backpack with the rest, making the snake huff a bit over how it is getting a bit heavier now. Looking at the doors that they could see in the room, they look at one another before Gillis asks, "So, which one should we go through?" Taking a quick moment to think, everyone agrees on taking the door to the far left when they had entered the room, Snake moving over to it and takes out an arrow to attempt to unlock it since he can't push it open, fiddling around before the arrow breaks and he is needing to pull it out and try again with a new one, going through three arrows before the fourth finally opens the door and they can go through. As they walk the unlocked door, they could see a long corridore in front of them as they are walking for a couple of seconds before they can hear a howling sound, leaving them scared for a moment, but resuming their dwelling as they notice a path on the right side leading somewhere, the decision coming quickly as they decide to split up and check the different ways. Gillis, Nolat, Onyx and Snake heading forward while the rest heads down the path to see what is there. Heading down the path, Shadoweye could soon notice a door at the end of the path and orders Tonyx to move closer. Using his hearing and nose, Tonyx is moving backwards and looks at them, "Sounds like a flock of mosquitos in there and I feel the scent of fumes in there." Seeing it as a cue, Jaeger reaches into his backpack and brings out a flint-n-steel before looking at Tonyx, "Think you can get it open?" Tonyx shrugs and gets down on his knees to work the lock, "If the snake could do it, surely I can too." After fiddling with the lock for two minutes, the clicking sound could be heard and Tonyx slowly begins to open the door, seeing how Jaeger is getting ready. "On the count of three, close the door quickly." Nodding, Tonyx was ready to close the door as Jaeger counts, "One... two..." seeing that Jaeger is about to call it out, Tonyx begins to close the door when Jaeger calls out "Three!" and quickly smacks the flint-n-steel together to create a spark, enough to ignite all the fume inside the room and causing a huge explosion that slams the door shut hard. The screeching sound inside telling them that they may or may not have succeeded with their plan, opening up the door slowly to peek inside, they are met by the sight of seven angry stirges flying, but seeming to be on the brink of death, the sight making the group laughing before they hear the stirges attacking them. In horror, Shadoweye and Jaeger tries to defend themselves, but screams in pain as two stirges grabs them and begins to slowly drain them of their blood, the others seeing this and quickly moving in to attack, Veedway seeing no other choice than praying to Bahamut before making a swing towards Jaeger, hoping he doesn't injure him further. The swing goes perfectly and Jaeger soon feels a stirge falling off him, but one still remaining. Jaeger looks at the stirge hanging on him and aims his staff at it, hissing angrily in hope that it will work before he fires off a spell, but misses the stirge entirely, even after sacrificing some of his life energy to make sure it will hit. Amethyst looks in horror at the violent attack and hopes it will work out when she strikes with her spear when it has charged up with energy, only to hit Jaeger instead of the stirge, the energy giving him a boost of health that quickly disappears when he is hit by the spear. Amethyst looks shocked and worried before she pulls the spear back as Shadoweye throws the stirges off herself, Jaeger trying the same, but being unable to when he screams in pain from the feasting stirge while more are attacking him and Shadoweye. One of the stirges soon flies back and grabs onto Shadoweye to continue its feast before a loud scream of pain can be heard from Jaeger when he is suddenly falling onto the floor unconsious as another stirge joins the party, feasting on his blood, soon pulling away from him before they are aiming for a new meal. Shadoweye tries to pull off the stirge, but finds it hanging on tighter to her now as she looks at Jaeger's body and soon takes her axe and strikes at the bloodsucking vermin, chopping the head clean off on it before tossing it aside and taking a deep breath as she unleashes a powerful breath of acid at the remaining stirges in a loud shout "Bath in the acid of your death!". Watching how four of the five alive mosquito-bats are being turned into slimy mass of vital organs and blood, the lone stirge lands and quickly begins to lap up the blood from the flagstone floor, leaving itself exposed for Tonyx to make a fast move over to it and swing his fullblade at full power, cleaving it in half before he rushes over to Jaeger's body with the others, Veedway and Amethyst already doing all they can to help him. Working with the skills of medics, Jaeger soon coughes as they are healing him, "Darn... bastards. Took me down well..." Quickly getting silenced by Tonyx, he is laying still while recovering, just as the other group comes running to the room, gasping at how it looks in there, as Shadoweye brings them up on the information while Nolat has found the treasure chest and is already going through it, "Some silver, some gems, a ribbon with feathers... oh, some clearwater solution, good when you need to make sure something isn't deadly. And a hide armor... but it is something with it." Running his talon over it, Nolat can't figure out what the armor does. Snake looks around and notices that behind the faded and torn tapestry is a chest, making his way over to it and attempts to open it up, but fails. Shadoweye, Veedway and Gillis walks over and nods to each other, readying their weapons and making a hard strike on the same spot on the chest's side, but without result before Jaeger fires off his spell and shoots the lid off the chest, showing a heavy loot inside the chest, Nolat rushing over to get a good view, only to get shoved back by Veedway as Shadoweye leans in and goes through this chest's loot, "Some gold, silver and copper, a few gems, a wooden staff that doesn't even seem to be magical, a choker of silk and trimmed with ermine fur, a hide armor and some holy water." When Nolat heard about the hide armor, he was quickly to his talons and moved over to the other chest and brought out another hide armor, concentrating this time harder to find a connection between them and what they do, only finding out that it raises physical attributes, once again packing it all into Snake's backpack, hearing him complain even more at this, when Gillis tells them the report, "The corridore led back to the room from which we came, so we are only having one door left now. Shall we go?" Nodding at each other, they began to walk back to the room to unlock the door that they had yet to unlock. Arriving at the door, Snake took out another arrow and was about to attempt to unlock it before Veedway grunts and attempts to break it down instead with the help of Shadoweye. The first attempt doesn't go well as the door don't even move a single inch, they do however see that it moves upwards a bit. Leaning down and grabbing onto the bottom of the door, they attempt to lift it up only to find it too heavy until Amethyst joins in to help them on the third try, which finally allows them to push it up and being welcomed by the glaring eyes of a few rats. "By Bahamut's grandmother!" Veedway calls out before they readied themselves for battle against the rats. The rats begins to charge in, Veedway able to dodge one attacking him, while Shadoweye isn't able to and feels the bite from one of them, which doesn't exactly hurt that much. Seeing the rats moving in quickly, Snake prepares two arrows quickly, firing them one after the other only to miss one but killing a second one with a perfect shot. Shadoweye launches herself at one of the giant rats after the pain subsides a bit and swings her axe quickly, but misses as she stumbles back onto her feet and quickly stands ready to defend herself, as a sudden light of green flames dashes past her and strikes for one of the rats, the strike cleaving it right apart before Nolat would feel a rat trying to attack him, giving off a light whine as he felt the fangs sink in, rather irritated at this. A familiar light suddenly appears near him and suddenly the rat explodes from a blast of light as Tonyx chuckles, "You okay?" Clearing his throat, Veedway steps forth and looks at the rat, just kicking towards it and sends it across the room and right into the wall behind it before Jaeger moves in and opens his mouth to unleash a cloud of toxic gas which kills the last two remaining of the giant rats before he notice two more rats standing there, a bit smaller, but still dangerous as he gives them a grin and soon unleashes his shadow to attack them, hearing one of them squeaking in pain as it bites down hard on it. Angered by seeing their allies falling so quickly, the two rats charges in to bite Jaeger, one of them manages to bite him, infecting the snake with filth fever. Jaeger hisses out in pain before the fever is getting to him and he is panting a bit, as Gillis comes running in and quickly swings his blades at the rats, hitting them both and cutting nicely as they squeak angrily from the pain. Amethyst sneaks up behind Gillis before beginning to attempt helping Jaeger to get better, after swinging her spear, hitting one of the rats hard as the energy she had charged in the attack goes right into Jaeger to provide him with cover, the loud squeak from the spear burying itself deep into the rat only making it more worth it for her. Onyx, who have heard it all, moves into the room and quickly illuminates the room before bathing most of the party in a divine light, the rats squeaking in pain when they could feel the light burning on their bodies, one of them burning into a crisp. The sound of a bow drawing could be heard before Snake calls out for everyone to dodge when suddenly two rapidly fired arrows are flying by towards the rat. Both of the arrows finds their mark on the rat that squeaks out when blood pours out really fast from its body, the heavy steps of Shadoweye not making it any better before she swings her axe at the bleeding vermin, hearing it squeak out and blood splattering around when it makes contact, soon followed up by a punch that brings it to the verge of its death. Nolat moves over before lifting his sword to take aim and swings it down to decapitate the rat before everyone gathers around to tend to Jaeger, who after a few minutes have with their help won over the filth fever. Hearing the sound of feet from the nearby room, they do listen before opening the treasure chest. Nolat this time not moving in quickly to loot it, but stands aside as Gillis leans over to look into it and bringing out whatever he finds in there, "Some gold, silver and copper coins, a few gems, an iron chime, a pair of leather boots with what seems like copper buckles, a leather ribbon, a hide armor, some essences, and that's it." Looking at the hide armor, Nolat doesn't even bother to check it and they head for the last room, seeing how someone is moving inside there as a voice is calling out, "You can't get us, we are safe in here behind this gate." Noticing the trap, Snake reaches up with his arrow to disable it and manages to before he moves aside for Shadoweye and Veedway as they charge at the wooden portcullis, but flies back as their impact wasn't enough to even break it. Getting up on their feet, the duo soon made a second charge at it, only to end up tumbling back across the floor. Their pure anger could be seen as Shadoweye reaches out her arms, feeling Amethyst and Veedway grabbing them and almost whiplashing her into a bull rush against the portcullis, the impact this time shattering the wood and sending splinters flying all around the room before Shadoweye came to a halt in front of four scared goblins. The leader moves up as the rest of the party moves into the room, "Please, lets talk about this." The goblin looks at the weaponry everyone carries around, swallowing before Shadoweye speaks up, "Why are you sending your minions to plunder travellers and kill them? Also, who are you?" The goblin moves backwards, bringing out his spear before speaking, "Because we are needing to collect money for our leader. I'm his third in command, Grint Bluntspear." Gillis moves closer and looks at the goblin, "Grint Bluntspear, you say? I've heard there is a bounty on your head. How about a deal? We leave your treasure chest here alone for your leader if you follow with us." Grint looks at Gillis before replying, "How do I know that you won't break your end of it?" Veedway makes his way over to them, "Listen, we could just have charged in here and ignored your wish to talk, slaughtered you all and taken the treasure for ourselves, but we are honorable enough to let you speak, so why would we go back on something like this then?" Grint looks annoyed at Veedway, "You slaughtered our pets and expect to believed to be honorable for it?" Veedway looks at the dead rats and then back at the goblin, "Atleast you didn't attack us and provoke us to defend ourselves from you, do you call it honor or fear? I say that is honor and I respond with honor and so do we all, so will you believe us or not?" Seeing the honesty and honor in the words, Grint nods, "Very well then, I shall follow with you.
