I grit my teeth against the\nstinging caused by the liquid.\n  \"Black suits you.\" Misha said\nwith a smile, \"I was considering giving you some color like orange or something\ncrazy.\" He laughed, \"But I decided to keep it simple.\" \n  \"Yeah.\" I said as the burning\nsensation faded, \"I prefer black, anyway. Wouldn't want to draw attention to\nthe fact that this place owns me.\" I mumbled as I examined the freshly painted\nnumbers. The fur had been singed slightly and was shorter where he painted over\nit. I sighed.\n  Misha sat down next to me on\nthe examination table, \"Aw, come on. You know it's not like that. It's just\ncustom for employees to be marked somehow, think of it as an identification\ncard. Certain positions have different methods. At least you don't have a\nmicrochip.\" Misha said, scratching my back. \"I just hope this chemical works on\nfur like yours. Never tried it on fur before. Feathers and scales I've dyed\nplenty of times, but never fur strangely enough. I guess that's because most\nfurred creatures have some sort of human form most of the time.\"\n  I was staring into space. The\nstress of visiting Eldon was weighing heavily on my mind, and had caused me to\nlose sleep the past few nights...not to mention, Misha had stopped by my room and\nkept me up in different ways. He was beginning to get a little too comfortable\nwith me, and it made me nervous. Most nights he ended up pleasuring me and then\nasking me to do the same for him in return. I was always somewhat fearful that\nmy sharp teeth would hurt him, but he insisted on thrusting himself into\nme...luckily I was able to use my tongue as a nice cushion and he never got hurt.\nI was still quite uncomfortable with what he was doing, but I could never resist\nhis smooth, warm touches, and he was always so happy afterwards.  \n  \"Decipher?\" Misha asked,\nrunning his hand down my side, nearing my crotch. \n  I stood up before his hand\ncould wander down farther. I was far too exhausted for that right now, and I\nfelt sick. \"Are we done here?\" I asked Misha. \n  Misha smiled and stood up,\nwrapping his arms around me from behind. \"With official business, yes.\" He\nwhispered into my ear, playing with the fur on my stomach. \n  I spun around and swiftly\ngrabbed his hands, pinning him up against the wall. He smiled and caressed my\nchest, \"Trying something different today?\" He asked with a smirk. I slammed my\nhand against the wall.\n  \"No, Misha.\" I shouted, \"Stop\nthis.\" \n  Misha took his hands off me\nand gave me his usual scared, helpless expression. He always got this look when\nI did something sudden. I sighed and my expression softened again.  \n  \"Not now, Misha. I'm going\nback to my room for a nap.\" I sighed heavily. \"See you at lunch?\" I asked.\n  \"Yeah, lunch sounds good, mid\nshift?\" Misha said quietly. I could tell he was disappointed.\n  I nodded and turned my back. I\nneeded sleep, and I hoped Misha understood...the last thing I wanted to do was\noffend him.  \n.........................................\n \n\"Are you crazy, Decipher?!\" Kato shouted across the table, laughing as\nCaliber continued to explain.\n  \"Yeah. That's what I was\nthinking as I helped him get his naked ass out of the middle of the courtyard.\"\n\n  I sighed, \"I know. It was\nstupid to climb into the valley.\" I said, completely defeated as I picked at my\nfood. I gave up on looking around the room for Misha. Once again he had failed\nto show up. \n  Caliber gave me a rough pat on\nthe back, \"Not at all. Taking risks is good for you!\" He said, still laughing\nwith Kato. \"But we're still going to make fun of you for the consequences.\"\n  \"I'm just shocked you were\nable to successfully teleport!\" Kato added, \"That must be a good sign, perhaps\nyour memory is returning.\"\n  \"Oh, that's right!\" Caliber\nsaid, \"Do you remember anything yet? Any memory of Eldon yet?\" \n  \"No!\" I snapped, throwing down\nmy fork, silencing the group.\n   I\nlooked up at them slowly. \"I'm sorry. I'm just stressed.\" I said, holding my\nforehead in my hands.\n  \"Is this about Misha?\" Kato\nasked. \"We leave in two days, you two had better get yourselves together before\nthen...he has to link with you.\"\n  \"Yeah thanks for having me\naboard, Kato.\" Caliber said, \"I'm excited to get out on a field mission. First\ntime in a while!\"\n  Kato sighed heavily, \"Yeah,\njust remember that you're in charge of keeping Sheila from fucking things up\nwithout us.\" \n  Caliber cringed, \"Aw, come on,\ndon't ruin my happy moment!\"\n  I glanced up to see Misha\napproaching us with a stack of papers and an apple. \"Hey guys.\" He said with a\nsmile as he sat down.\n  \"You're late.\" I commented.\n  \"Yeah, I have to take Decipher\ndown for some training with Caliber. We decided it would be best to work on\nsome team exercises, since we'll most likely be working together in the event\nthat we are attacked.\" Kato said, glancing at the clock.\n  \"Sorry.\" Misha said, chewing\non his apple, \"I got sidetracked in the lab.\" \n  Caliber had gone quiet and\nbegan avoiding eye contact. I glanced over to see that he was smirking. I\nelbowed him. He clearly knew something I didn't, and was trying to hide his\namusement. \n  Kato sat back in his chair,\n\"Right. What are you going to do with all your experiments while you're gone?\" \n  \"Taken care of.\" Misha said,\nflipping through his papers. \"I just need to deliver these to their new\ncaretakers for the week and I'll be set.\" \n  \"Come on guys.\" Kato said as\nhe stood, \"Misha, remember to meet us tomorrow at dawn with your supplies for\nfinal approval.\"\n  \"See you later.\" I mumbled as\nI followed Kato and Caliber out the doors of the dining hall. Misha waved at us\non our way out.\n  Once we were inside the arena,\nI turned to Caliber, \"Tell me.\" I said flatly.\n  \"Tell you what?\" Caliber said.\n  \"What do you know that I\ndon't?\" I demanded. \n  Caliber laughed, \"Oh you mean\n'got sidetracked in the lab'?\"  \n  \"Enough.\" Kato said, glaring\nover his shoulder at us.\n  \"What did he mean?\" I\ndemanded, \"I'm sick of all these stupid secrets.\"\n  Caliber sighed, \"I'm sorry. I\nshouldn't be laughing...it's just...\"\n  \"Don't you dare, Caliber.\"\nKato yelled at us from across the room. \"Decipher, have you been to the lab\nyet?\"\n  I shook my head as Kato typed\na few commands into a computer on the wall, which caused the floor of the arena\nto shift and change around us.\n  \"No. Not really.\" I admitted,\njumping to avoid a rock that was forming beneath my feet.\n  Kato sighed and turned around.\n\"I didn't think so.\" He paused, \"You want the truth? Go check out Misha's lab\nright now and see what he's been up to.\" \n  \"Now?\" I asked, \"What about\ntraining?\"\n  \"Please.\" Kato laughed, \"Team\nwork exercise? That was a bunch of bullshit to give you an excuse to get out of\nthe room. Besides, Misha just left for a meeting with Hale.\" Kato said, \"You'll\nhave a few hours until he's done. Now is the perfect time for some snooping\naround.\"\n  \"Cool.\" Caliber smiled, \"So can\nI leave?\"\n  \"Not you.\" Kato said,\npointing a knife at him, \"I want to throw shit at someone. Come on, I need a\ntarget.\"\n  \"What?\" Caliber moaned,\n\"Totally uncalled for. Go throw shit at the trees in the range!\" \n  \"Moving targets are more\nfun.\" Kato said, tossing Caliber a knife. \"Come on, let's go practice. You need\na tune up anyways.\" Kato pointed a knife at me, \"And you, get going. Misha\nshould be arriving in Hale's office right about now.\"\n  I nodded as Caliber snatched\nthe knife out of the air and continued to complain. I turned and dashed for the\nbasement. My heart was racing and adrenaline was coursing through my veins. I\ntried to appear casual as I quickly walked down the stairs and towards the\nelevator that led to the dark basement floors. Kato really wants me to find the truth for myself...he didn't want to\ntell me. I thought to myself. That\nmust mean there's something really bad down here.\n   The elevator came to a stop at the lowest\nfloor I had access to, B5. The doors opened to reveal a well-lit, white\nhallway. I had been down this hallway a few times with Misha, but I had never\nhad the chance to enter his lab, which was through two double doors at the end\nof the hallway. \n  I walked to the double doors\nand stood frozen, afraid of what I might find. After a few moments, I slowly opened\nthe door. To my surprise, the doors weren't locked and swung right open. I\nwalked through the doors and examined my surroundings carefully.\n  The hallway contained doors\non either side, some that led into small rooms, and others that opened up into\nlarge spaces. Some doors looked like they contained surgical equipment,\ncombined with tables that had straps for arms and legs. Nervous, I felt like I\nwas going to vomit. One room was labeled \"Misha's Office\". I peered inside to\nsee stacks of paper and a few file cabinets at the desk. I wasn't really\ninterested in reading his data today.\n   The next door I passed had a smaller window\nwith bars. There was a sheet of paper attached to a clipboard that hung off the\ndoor. It read, \"3529. Condition: Serious and declining. Serum Used: RZ52 /\nNotes: This serum has worked in stopping the morph from completing itself. He\ncan no longer become human; but his vital signs are fading. Disappointing\nresults. It also seems that this genetic mutation is not what occurred in 257\nlike I had originally thought.\" \n  Upon reading my number, I\nclutched my shoulder nervously. Was he trying to figure out how I became what I\ndid? My fingers traced the numbers in my fur as I thought. The paper was dated\na few days ago, and the thought of when I had first met Hale flashed in my\nmind.  \"Misha and two-fifty-seven here,\nsir.\"\n  Misha had said upon our\narrival...I shuddered. He had been referring to me by my number this entire time\nwhen it came to official business. Only experiments were referred to as numbers\nas far as I knew. I shook my head in attempt to clear my mind and calm down.\n   I peered inside the door, and my heart\nstopped. There was a werewolf strapped to an examination table, with needles\npiercing the veins in his arms, and some sort of mask over his muzzle. I\ngrabbed at the door handle weakly, realizing it was locked. \n  I knelt down and brought my\nshaking hands up to the doors, focusing all of my energy on unlocking the door\nusing the programming I had learned from my keycard. I heard the wolf cry out,\na mournful howl as it feebly struggled against the bonds. The howl broke my\nconcentration. I began to breathe heavily, and my hands shook even harder.\n  After a few minutes of\nfocusing, I heard the door click and unlock. Slowly, I turned the handle and\nwalked inside. The werewolf's eyes shot wide open in panic when it saw me. It\nstruggled and howled for a few moments, until it was too weak to move.\n  \"No! No calm down.\" I cried,\nrushing to the side of the beast. \"I'm not going to hurt you I swear...\"\n  He looked up at me with\nglossy, amber eyes. He looked weak and sad. I removed the mask from his face\nand he whined.\n  \"Do you talk?\" I said\nquietly.\n   He let out a raspy growling noise that\nmy mind translated to, \"Not in human tongue. Not anymore.\" I stared at him in amazement;\nI hadn't even considered the idea that I could understand werewolf language... He\nwhined again, \"So the serum worked on you, huh?\" \n  \"No...no they found me like\nthis.\" I said, my voice quivering, \"They didn't do this to me.\" \n  \"You're lucky.\" The wolf\ncoughed. \"You understand me...though...\" He mused.\n  \"How did this happen to\nyou?\" I asked, thinking out loud.\n  \"They find us in the woods\noutside of the lab, drug us, and bring us in for their experiments. Some of us\nare warned to stay away, but sometimes the wolf does not listen, and we wander\nto close.\" His ears fell as he spoke with his wolf voice, as well as body\nlanguage. \"Horrible things.\" He mused, his eyes rolling to the back of his head.\n  I was breathing heavily, I\nwhimpered back at him, \"I'm so sorry. I want to help you...\" I said in wolf\ntongue. I surprised myself as my face neared his and I nuzzled the side of his\nhead, breathing out to affirm that I felt bad. My wolf instincts took over, and\nI began to communicate as a werewolf would. I breathed in deeply, only to\nnotice Misha's scent covering the werewolf's fur all over, as if Misha had been\nrunning his hands up and down him...my face wandered down near his crotch out\nof morbid curiosity. \n   \"Save yourself.\" He wheezed, closing his\neyes. Startled, I jerked my face back away from his crotch. Misha's scent was\nindeed all over him. \n  \"I should have known this\nwas coming. They promise you safety, a job, and then HE fools you into thinking\nhe really cares...but what were the odds that he'd fall for one of his\nexperiments?\" The werewolf glared into my eyes, sending shivers down my spine,\n\"How could I honestly believe it was a coincidence that most of us are gay?\"\n  Was he talking about Misha?\nHe had promised me a job...he told me he cared...was it a trick? Was that what he\nhad done to this werewolf? Did Misha use experiments that happened to be\nattracted to males to his advantage? My heart slammed against my ribcage, as if\nit were going to explode. I couldn't breathe. I began to shake again, and I\nnearly fell over.\n  \"It's all a fucking lie!\" The\nwerewolf growled angrily, \"Get out! Leave me NOW!\" He howled, thrashing around\non the bed. I turned and ran. I knew I couldn't help him, not in the state I\nwas in. Misha's poison was probably killing him, anyway. I couldn't stay there.\nTerrified, I dashed out towards the double doors. \n  I continued to run. My legs\nburned and my lungs screamed for oxygen but I did not stop. I couldn't stop. I\nran out to the courtyard and into the forest, up to the lookout point. Stopping\ndead once I reached the lookout point, I barely avoided falling off the edge.\nPart of me considered jumping off the edge out of pure fear of having to go\nback to that lab. The brief encounter with that poor \"experiment\" had launched\nme into a panic. \n  I stood on the edge of the\ncliff and let out a howl. The howl echoed through the valley and sent every\nliving thing around running. It was filled with fear and rage, and when it was\nover I sat panting. I fell to my knees and snarled, dry sobbing. If I were\nhuman, crying might have worked better...but as I wolf I sat with my face twisted\ninto an agonized expression while my throat let out raspy growls. My entire\nbody shook and I couldn't move. I had no idea what I was going to do. \n  Focusing as hard as I could\nto calm myself, I tried to steady my breathing. So many regrets ran through my\nmind...trusting Misha, staying at the lab, and even coming to this damned planet!\n  The realization of what\nMisha was doing hit me. He chose to work with males that were attracted to\nother males, gained their trust, used them, and the continued to do horrible\nthings to them anyway. I begged myself to believe that it was different with\nme, but I was terrified. I had to wonder why he had chosen to target me, if\nthis was what he was trying to do. I showed no outward attraction to him...I\ndidn't even understand how human attraction worked until he introduced me to\nthese new feelings. He had forced himself upon me and tried harder...\n  This place was reminding me\nmore and more of home...the experiments, the laboratory, the lies, the pain, the\ntorture...  \n  I looked back towards the\npath that led to the lab...home. Perhaps my fear was causing me to overreact.\nMaybe this was normal here. I had been so sheltered when I first arrived; I had\nnever seen the dark parts of this world. I swallowed hard. My emotions were out\nof control, and I needed to calm myself. I WAS overreacting. I needed to act\nlike an adult. In a way, I felt immature and foolish for letting my emotions\ncontrol my reactions this way...\n  Everyone in the lab seemed\nto know about Misha. They did not care. This was normal. I must have been\nfeeling hurt because Misha had potentially betrayed me. I would talk this out with\nhim...and things will be fine. I tried\nto assure myself. I had gotten myself into this mess, and it was still better\nthan home. Misha was treating me well, even if he was lying. I was being\ntreated fine, and that was all that mattered. I inhaled deeply and was finally\nable to steady my breathing. \n  I began to practice\ncreating fire from the energy around me to take my mind off of it. Fire magic\nwas always so calming. It had to be, otherwise you would light yourself on fire\nor cause an explosion. Watching the flames dance between my fingers soothed my\nmind. At least I could use magic here. I had always understood energy, but was\nnever able to use it at home.\n  I considered running away\nto Eldon, but I figured I might as well take a visit with the group before I\nmade any decisions...worse things might happen in the village. I scratched at my\ndownloaded information, but it was no help...as it cannot teach morals. I sighed,\ncurling up on the branch that overlooked the valley. \n   My body was drained from the adrenaline rush\nand the emotional outburst. Slowly, I dozed off in the warm sunlight. I would\nbe okay; things would be okay...I just needed to put my emotions aside until I\nlearned more about the morals of this planet. ","previous":"https://fse.anthro.fr/stories/565332-skyfall-chapter-9.json","next":"https://fse.anthro.fr/stories/565765-skyfall-chapter-11.json"}
