{"sf1_id":577931,"sf2_id":"zeRpqZvn","title":"All for one, One for All","author":"Ephemeral_Dreams","words":690,"posted_at":"2013-08-18T01:53:00.000Z","tags":["Hopefully thought-provoking","M/solo","Male","No-Yiff","Poetry","metaphorical"],"url":"https://fse.anthro.fr/stories/577931-all-for-one-one-for-all","original_url":"https://sofurry.com/s/zeRpqZvn","image_url":"https://cdn.sofurryfiles.com/submissions/thumbnails/9f/b3/9fb3cfa4-a838-4879-9e08-91eed15fdbb5","description":"","content":" **All for one, One for All**\n\nBy Ephemeral\\_Dreams\n\nHe has traveled far indeed, miles like the second hand.\n\nHe has unraveled far and beyond, equipped only with his maimed hand.\n\nThe unspeakable journey, insurmountable hills that he overcame.\n\nHis unconquerable will, the innumerable demons he had to tame.\n\nHorrors of many faces, nightmares enough to chill the undead.\n\nTerrors of many faces, neighbors of the damned, the eternal dead.\n\nHe has sought but one thing, that one place to call home.\n\nHe has naught but one thing, his own body, sanity long gone.\n\nWhat is sanity, he asks, what does it mean to be alive?\n\nHe knows not the answer, nor does he expect to find it anytime soon.\n\nWhat is insanity, he counters, why do I have to be alive?\n\nHe knows not the answer, but he respects the notion to come soon.\n\nThe hill nears, marking his final destination, or at least he'd thought.\n\nThe man cheers, embarking on his carnal resignation, or so he's been taught.\n\nAlas the glorious sight, the end he'd been looking for.\n\nEgad the nefarious night, it denies all that he looks for.\n\nThe sight clears, revealing all that he wanted.\n\nWater, nourishment, riches, mates\u0026nbsp; and residence.\n\nThe night nears, concealing all that he needed.\n\nWafers, cherishment, niches, mates and reluctance.\n\nIt's not exactly what was promised, not after the first glance.\n\nLittle scars and injuries, marking the imperfections of his paradise.\n\nIt's not precisely that it was cherished, not after the first millennia.\n\nHe's waited years and years, alas it has aged away, signs of decay.\n\nHorrors of many faces, nightmares enough to chill the undead.\n\nTerrors of many faces, neighbors of the damned, the eternal dead.\n\nHe has sought but one thing, that one place to call home.\n\nHe has naught but one thing, his own body, sanity long gone.\n\nWhat is sanity, he asks, what does it mean to be alive?\n\nHe knows not the answer, nor does he expect to find it anytime soon.\n\nWhat is insanity, he counters, why do I have to be alive?\n\nHe knows not the answer, but he respects the notion to come soon.\n\nJoy mixed with mounting despair, happiness jabbed with needles of depression.\n\nUnsuccessfully he fights it away, trying to see the light underwater.\n\nSometimes he can ignore it, let the honey flow and gems glow.\n\nMost times he can adore it, let the emotions build and pain gild.\n\nScars of his monumental journey, unappreciated by the inhabitants of this utopia.\n\nAt least he is home, he consoles himself-alas home is where his heart lies.\n\nStars in the moonless night, denied sanctuary by the might of Andromeda.\n\nAt last he is home, where his control may falter-alas home is where his heart bleeds.\n\nAt first it's the little things, the lack of certain food he likes.\n\nNext it's the irrelevant things, the overabundance of something he dislikes.\n\nWhat to do when major problems come along, rolling down the hill as they've done before?\n\nWhat can he do when lesser comforts go aloft, leaving him in the chill as they've done before?\n\nHorrors of many faces, nightmares enough to chill the undead.\n\nTerrors of many faces, neighbors of the damned, the eternal dead.\n\nHe has sought but one thing, that one place to call home.\n\nHe has naught but one thing, his own body, sanity long gone.\n\nWhat is sanity, he asks, what does it mean to be alive?\n\nHe knows not the answer, nor does he expect to find it anytime soon.\n\nWhat is insanity, he counters, why do I have to be alive?\n\nHe knows not the answer, but he respects the notion to come soon.\n\nOnly time will tell, when the tree that tells has fully grown.\n\nOnly he will sell, his black, charred soul filled with memories.\n\nNot for salvation, nor for the elation of his fallen comrades.\n\nBut for elevation, the evolution of his shared species.\n\nAs he always preached, \"All for one, one for All.\"\n\nAll comments, especially constructive criticisms, are welcome.\n\nWork copyrighted to Ephemeral\\_Dreams.\n\nPlease do not share, copy or post without my exprses permission.\n\n  \n  \n\n"}
