#8 of Collection - One and the Same

Another journal entry, still working on this whole narrative thing...
I've been told I need to work on my transitions, not sure if that's due to the ~ during reading aloud...

~ Saturnii, July 13th, Year 1355 of the Human Calendar

I began studying memory spells today; perhaps something will help bring the dream into better focus. It was an idea my mate had when she stumbled upon a book in my collection, Dreams and Memories . I don't recall when it was added, but I suppose it can't hurt to try it out. After skimming for a few minutes it became clear these spells were not overly complex, in fact I think I may have performed a couple before. One spell sounded perfect, Dreamstriding ; supposedly it was a charm that would allow you to freeze a dream in place for a time. I will be sure to use it tonight....

~

The dream came again tonight, and the charm did just as it was meant to. The very thing that caused my mind so much unrest was reduced to a calm stroll through the woods, and the familiarities were troubling. After looking closer at the dream I have decided it must be a very old memory, similar to an ancient book the details and parts of the memory have frayed at the edges. It may even be a memory about whatever happened to my parents; indeed that would be some much needed closure, but I must not get ahead of myself.

The flames themselves had a new smell to them, now they reeked of death and dark magic. What I originally thought were swords were, in fact, some kind of grotesque metal contraptions. The machines, as humans were beginning to call them, were fragmented and hazy; difficult to make out. What I could get from the memory, however, was the smell about them; coal and oil. If this was actually the night I was abandoned, then it was over one-hundred human years ago, humans weren't that advanced then, where they...?

Once the time limit of the charm expired the dream reverted back to the way it originally was, with my viewpoint being in a dark corner and surrounded by fire. I awoke precisely how I always did; with my mind fuzzy and chills going up my spine. If my kind could sweat, I would be drenched; what humans called nightmares are nothing compared to what a dragon with an uneasy mind experiences. I rose up and began my usual walk out to the lake; the night air was warm and soothing along with the gentle breeze that brushed the trees.

I have decided to reflect on this discovery at a later time, walking through one's dreams is exhausting! Perhaps a charm for preventing bad dreams would be better suited for the time being, some happier dreams would bring a more restful sleep I think.
