Equine themed and I submitted three together as there is no \"poetry\" section on SoFurry...yet! (please, admins? \u003c3 ).\nPoems (c) amethystmare","content":" **_The Red Mare_**\n\nThey say we lead to borrow freedom,\n\nFreedom to let us be.\n\nPerhaps, my dear, you'd be so kind\n\nAs to share your freedom with me?\n\nForget distress, to hell with the rest,\n\nCurling onward - you think the shadows care?\n\nHoney, what danger? They do no more than stare\n\nAt you and I, our passing by.\n\nClip-clop, clip-soft hooves to pine spines,\n\nSharp and stale from time's fall.\n\nWe shall take heed of flight, dare not stall,\n\nHooves flicked airborne, lost moment.\n\nTwo are one but one is two\n\nAnd must farewell on life's way.\n\nI do so wish that I could stay\n\nIn the shadow of your musty sweetness.\n\nWhen twilight groans, do you watch\n\nFor a figure, rearing from dark?\n\nScrambling up bareback, that forbidden lark,\n\nNow the gate is latched and you graze alone.\n\n**_Dance with me_**\n\nA stable houses many heads,\n\nWell groomed manes and tails.\n\nSome are schooled, quick to prance,\n\nOne or two prick ears at a jump\n\nAnd others were bred to dance.\n\nThe grey mare is not for the harness -\n\nShe snorts and trots on a dime.\n\nDelicate to defy human gravity,\n\nHer hooves light as feathers\n\nLost measure of severity.\n\nCollect your canter,\n\nNow twenty metre circle.\n\nShe pivots over sand,\n\nEars flicked to and fro\n\nOver sweated brow band.\n\nThey call it a half-pass,\n\nBut she knows only\n\nMovement: precise, calm.\n\nHoof after hoof, stretch to the left,\n\nReins tucked firm in rider's palm.\n\nPiaffe, passage,\n\nA flawless dance,\n\nHoof raised, hoof placed:\n\nHer dancer's idealism\n\nIn keeping pace.\n\n**_The Empty Stall_**\n\n_A tribute to 'Twiggy'_\n\nShe licked salt blocks,\n\nGentled children on lead rein.\n\nThirteen hands to the wither,\n\nThey could barely stretch to reach her nose\n\nOr reach to feed her grain.\n\nShe steamed in winter,\n\nChildren scrambled to groom\n\nThe hard-working school pony,\n\nWho was quiet in the little hands,\n\nThough her pale side did loom.\n\nLowering her pink nose\n\nInto dark buckets, she drank,\n\nTaking her fill and snorting droplets,\n\nTo the delight of those standing alert:\n\nThey never thought to thank.\n\nOne day, she did not come to call,\n\nWe wondered where she hid.\n\nUpon searching Bryndias up and down,\n\nWe stumbled upon a sight:\n\nA broken body below the hole.\n\nNo peaceful death with her dam\n\nStanding sentry, as at a birth.\n\nShe went in a painful, sudden fashion\n\nSomewhere unpredictable\n\nThat we fail to impassion.\n\nDay dawns, cock crows,\n\nYearling nickers.\n\nHer stall is empty now.\n\n  \n  \n\n","series":{"name":"Poetry","next":"https://fse.anthro.fr/stories/1181160-open-me-up.json"}}
