I was in agreement, I loved Chemistry, physics, or any other type of\nscience, but homework was still that. Homework.\"Ugh,\" I sighed. \"Well, it could be worse. We could have homework on top of\nthis,\" I added. I was doing most of the work anyway, mostly because it was easy\nenough. It was just so much to do. I had been reading through a chemistry book,\nloaned to me by the librarian, but I just couldn't seem to find what I was\nlooking for in it.\"I still\ndon't like projects,\" Snapped Frost, looking at the clock a bit frustrated. I\nwas starting to become more and more drowsy, and from the look of it, so was\nFrost. I grabbed the edge of the book and slammed it as hard as I could closed,\ncausing Frost to jump back a bit. I sat back, chuckling with Frost at the scare\nI gave him, but it was short-lived. Frost seemed to stare off into space, and\nasked silently with a sigh, \"Don't you sometimes wish something awesome would\nhappen?\"\"Like What?\nI asked curiously.\"Hmm...\"\nSighed Frost, \"I dunno.\"Just as I\nwas about to speak that we should probably just go home, there was a loud voice\nbehind me. \"The library is closing, you two,\" Boomed the librarian, nearly\ncausing me to leap out of my chair. Frost obviously knew she was there, because\nhe was laughing, nearly in tears at what had just happened. \"Ugh.\" I sighed\ndispleased at my own misfortune. I guess that's what I get for trying to scare\nhim earlier. We both stood up, and slowly left the library, talking and playfully\nnudging each other, until we got outside. We split up outside. Our houses were\nin opposite directions from the library, but still within walking distance.I finally\nreached my house, shoved the key into the knob, and silently entered. As soon\nas I had opened the door, our pet husky ran out. That was fine, usually he was\nasleep by now, but apparently someone had to have a mid-night potty break. I\nwould have to let him back in later, so I walked into the dark living room, and\nsat on the couch. I still wasn't quite tired yet. Usually a nice walk at night\ntime makes me more awake, rather than sleepy. I flipped on the flat screen in\nfront of me, and setting the volume on its lowest level, as to not wake up my\nparents, I started slowly flipping through the channels. I stopped when I saw a\nnews channel. It had to have been a cut scene for some horror movie, so I\nthought it might be an interesting watch. It had been a few minutes now, so I\ndecided to go check on the dog. As I opened the door, I saw him just standing\nthere, out in the grass, staring at me. It was strange, normally he would have\njust ran back in, settled down, and passed out. However, this time, he just\nstared. I walked up to him, grabbed his collar, and tried to walk him back to\nthe house. After a second of him trying to firmly plant himself on the ground,\nand seeming to try to lead me in the opposite direction, he finally gave up,\nand padded back into the house with me. I shut the door behind myself, while\nthe dog just padded off somewhere in the house. When I reached the couch again,\nI noticed that the channel I thought was some horror film was still on the news\npart. I checked again, and realized that this wasn't a film. This was the\nChannel 4 News.\"BEEEP,\nBEEEP, BEEEP. THIS IS THE EMERGENCY BROADCAST SYSTEM, THIS IS NOT A TEST\"\n\"BEEEP, BEEEP, BEEEP. THIS IS THE EMERGENCY BROADCAST SYSTEM, THIS IS NOT A --\"\n\"High levels of radiation...\" The news reporter broke in, \"...have been reported\noriginating from the Muslim nuclear strike against Australia. Rumors have been\nreported that Muslim counties were testing a prototype missile that\naccidentally struck a reserve of nuclear material, which was being covered up\nby the Australian government.\"The\nreporter continued going on about how and why this happened, but I had already\ngrabbed the phone nearby. I dialed up Frost, and waited for him to answer. He\nbarely had time to say Hello before I broke in. \"Frost, have you seen the\nnews?\" I questioned questionably.\"Yeah, I\nhave.\" He continued, \"My parents are being as unbelievable as usual. Do you\nthink they are right?\" \"I doubt it, I mean, this just doesn't seem like the kind of thing a\nprofessional news station would joke about, even if It is April.\" I said.Frost\nsighed on the other end of the line, but continued. \"I suppose you have a\npoint. How do you think this'll work out?\"Ugh,\" I\nsighed. If this was for real, I guess I did have an idea. \"My guess would be we\nall die of radioactive poisoning. Either that or we'll mutate beyond\nrecognition.\"\"How long?\"\nQuestioned Frost.\"A day? A\nweek? Maybe even months.\" I continued, \"This isn't a definite thing.\"I could\nhear Frost give a slow sigh on the other end, as he said, \"Tis true. Anyway,\nits getting pretty late. We can figure this all out tomorrow. Goodnight.\" He said.\nI gave the same goodbye and hung up. I flipped\noff the TV, and headed off to my room. Our husky pet was sitting in the corner\nof my room. He usually slept in my room, probably because my parents didn't\nreally care as much as I did for him. He wouldn't move for the longest time. He\nlooked as though he was trembling in horror, and i couldn't help but think that\nmaybe this really wasn't a joke. Maybe something really bad was about to\nhappen. The dog padded to my bed and jumped up. I assumed that he didn't want\nto go through this alone. I couldn't blame him. I didn't either. Still\nlistening to the soft whines and growls of my dog, I eventually passed out.When I\nawoke, it was already daytime. It was Saturday already, and I was still in a\nhalf-asleep mode. I felt more tired than I had before. Usually I can wake up\nand be good to go, but today felt as if I had been hit in the chest with a\nbaseball bat. No big deal, I mean, its not like I had anything else to do\ntoday. I could hear what sounded like either my mom or dad in the kitchen,\nprobably cooking breakfast or something. Good, I was kind of hungry now. I\nquickly hopped out of my bed, and as soon as my paws touched the ground...\"Wait... Paws?,\" I questioned. I couldn't help to collapse on the carpeting of my\nfloor. I looked down, now almost fully awake. What once had been my feet, were\nnow furry, pure white paws, with short black claws, and black pads on the\nbottom. I had fell on some sort of pillow, but when I went to grab it I noticed\nit wasn't a pillow. I had a tail! It was a huge fluffy black topped husky tail,\nand the lower half was pure white.\"What the\nhell?\" I said. This was weird, but awesome. Apparently whatever radiation was\ntraveling from Australia had already gotten here. It had to of contained intense\namounts of some form of mutation element. My guess was it had fused me and my\nloving pet husky together. The fact that my pet was nowhere to be seen slightly\nsupported that theory.I could\nhear, with what I now realized were two pointy dog ears, that whoever was in\nthe kitchen was now making their way to the sound I was making. I wondered, if\nthis happened to me, what got to my parents? I opened my door, and walked out.\nI couldn't be sure that whatever happened to whoever was in the house was a\ngood thing. Next to my room door, there was a closet type room, where my\nparents had stockpiled food, and other supplies when people used to think the\nworld would end. I never believed them. There had been so many dates that it\ncould have, and so many times nothing happened, but apparently they were right,\nthey just couldn't get the date right. I rummaged through the closet and\ngrabbed a machete from the back. It would be quicker to use, and most of the\nother weapons we had stored would be too big, or too loud. I paced closer to\nthe noise in the house, and just as I turned the corner, I saw my parents. They\nweren't exactly my parents anymore, but one huge blob of disgusting skin and\nmuscle. Whatever this monstrosity was, it had obviously been my parents, who\nhad been fused together, and torn apart many times over. I doubted that my\nparents were still in that blob of ugliness, but I couldn't help but feel a bit\nof pain in the fact of what I knew had to be done. If my parents were in there,\nthey wouldn't have wanted to stay like this, and if they weren't, it was making\ntoo much noise, and could attract others. I knew where I would strike already.\nSever the heads, and it should stop moving was my guess.I sprinted,\nfaster than I thought was possible, toward the beast, almost flipped over the\ncounter, and shoved the sharp blade in the neck of what looked to be my mother.\nPassing all the way to the other side of the room, I noticed that the head came\nclean off, and the left side of the blob had stopped moving now, slowing it\ndown, even more than it had been moving. It hurt, not just the blob, but me,\nknowing that even though it had to be done, I had just killed my mother. Before\nthe grief could take hold, I sprinted again, this time to the other head, and\nsliced it clean off. Either the blade was extremely sharp, or the formation had\nbeen made weaker, but either way, I didn't care. I couldn't think about this\nanymore.I walked to\nmy room, grabbed a small travel bag, and my backpack. Back at the closet, I\nrummaged through it and collected various food cans that weren't marked to\nexpire for a few years. I added them to the travel bag, and set it down beside\nme. I filled my backpack with water bottles, and a few of the smaller survival\ntools, such as a hand axe, a few pocket knives, and para-cord, my favorite tool\nto use, just in case. I reached back to the bigger weapons, and grabbed a\nkatana, which we had acquired as a gift. It was still in great condition, it\nwasn't made to be a decoration piece either. It was a real hard-steel blade. I\nalso grabbed two small boxes, one of which contained a small handgun, the other\nfull of .22 ammo.\"Always\ngood to have a backup, I guess.\" I said quietly. I quickly took a compound bow,\nwith a few sharp-pointed arrows, and the machete, which I cleaned off from the\nfight.\"All set.\"\nI told myself as I grabbed the bags I had filled, and attached the weapons to\nthem. I headed out of the house, giving one last glance at it, before I stared\nrunning off to Frost's house. I was weighed down by all the bags, but I was\nstill making great speed. I was sure I could run twice as fast as I was now, if\nI needed to. Enjoying my new-found speed, I became lost in thought and only was\nbroken from my trance when I had almost crashed into some type of anthro-cat. \"Frost?\" I\nyelled."}
