The group members were all properly fed and prepared.\nSupervisors suggested that those who were unarmed should go to the\nstorage and grab some weapons and of course flash-lights. Percival\nand Guino catched lanterns for the group. As there were only two, the\ngroup could not be divided into more than two subgroups. Those who\nwere unarmed got spears from the storage. The exploration would begin\nin the corridor, since the stone door could not be moved yet. The\nsextet entered, armed with their flash-lights and weapons.\nThe hallway was covered with ice\nup and down. Ceiling, walls and floors were extremely slippery.\nFurthermore, imperfections in the surfaces made accidental cuts very\neasy to occur.\nPercival walked carefully. No\nmember of the group had footwear, shoes or sandals as they are\nunusual and sometimes unnecessary in Fenária.\n- Watch the ground, kids - said\nPercival.\nBolico stepped on a floor\nimperfection, which opened a small, but ardent, cut on his foot-paw.\nHe yelped and kept walking.\n- I know - he said.\n- Great - Percival continued.\nFollowing the corridor, the\ngroup came to a room. The room was large and had an exit to the\nnorth. In the centre was a lever. The lever was very rusty and it was\nmade of solid iron. Mimo approached, curious about the effects that\nthe lever could trigger, but was held by Mático, which put a paw on\nthe shoulder of the young monkey.\n- Negative; we do not know what\nit can do - Mático said.\nMimo looked at Mático and\nnodded. Guino took the lead and began to examine the lever. He also\nlooked around the lever, looking for possible trapdoors, very\ncarefully. He then glanced at the ceiling, which looked solid and\nuniform.\n- It seems safe - he said. - The\nlever probably does not activate anything in this room.\n- Still, let not fiddle with\nsomething that does not deserve our attention yet - Percival\nsuggested, citing his father.\n- It seems sensible - spoke\nSérica. - Let us continue, then ...\nThe group continued through the\nnorth corridor. The corridor forked in the north and east.\n- To where now? - Asked Mimo.\n- Not so simple ... - Spoke\nMático.\nSérica took the lead, going\nnorth.\n- What do you think you're\ndoing? - Asked Mático.\n- We will not get anywhere if we\nstop to think at each fork - she said. - If you do not even know this\ndungeon, the best we can do is to walk randomly and collect\ninformation regarding it's functioning and ecology.\nMimo and Bolico did not\nunderstood. Guino followed.\n- I like that crazy chick - he\nsaid.\n- Please, I have no sense of\nhumour - Sérica replied.\nPercival, Mimo and Bolico\nfollowed. Mático sighed and followed too. The path would split\nagain, but the group persisted in going north, always, as it was more\ndifficult to get lost that way. If they found a dead end, they would\nsimply return to the previous fork or crossroads to follow another\npath. Mático, which had the best memory among the group members,\nsecretly memorized the way they were going, in case of Sérica\nbecoming lost.\nThe group came to another room,\neventually. A low growl could be heard coming from one of the exits\nof the room.\n- It was not me - Mimo said.\n- Well known - Guino replied.\nGuino moved the flash-light from\nleft to right, trying to pinpoint the exact source of the sound,\nwhen, suddenly, Percival shouted:\n- My goodness!\n- What is it? - Asked Sérica\nwhile Guino kept moving the flash-light from one side to the other\nagain.\nA huge silhouette could be seen\ncoming out of the east corridor of the room. It was a purple bear,\nsix feet tall, wearing black clothing, typical of perpetrator. Had\nglowing red eyes without pupils, and wielded a bronze scythe with ice\nblade. The muscle mass of the Bear allowed him to use the scythe,\nthat had three quarters of his size, with only one paw.\n- An explorer? - Asked Percival.\n- I'm afraid he is not - spoke\nMático, stepping forward. - He is obviously a supernatural entity.\nThe eyes are not at all normal and have no pupils. Still, he seems to\nsee us.\nThe bear stared fixedly at the\ngroup, moving toward them slowly but gradually increasing speed.\nSuddenly, he started running, lifting the scythe.\n- Beware! - Shouted Guino.\nMimo jumped back, getting away.\nThe bear dropped his scythe with full force against Guino, who was\nahead with the lantern. The blow hit Guino's shoulder, forcing him to\nscream in pain and drop the flash-light. The group had no light for a\nwhile. Percival turned the second lantern on, attracting the\nattention of the offender. Guino, furious because of the blow he had\nreceived, bent down and stepped back carefully, taking the tip of the\nscythe off the newly open wound, then brandished his sword against\nthe bear, trying to hit him, but the beast was faster than he looked\nand dodged the attack with enough dexterity, hanging his weight to\nthe side. Bolico jumped back, undecided as to flee or try to be\nhelpful. Sérica approached the bear, getting to combat distance.\nMático stepped away.\nThe bear turned to Sérica,\nwhich approached, and swung his scythe against her, but she dodged\ntaking a step backwards. Still, a long, though not very deep, cut was\nmade on her belly. Guino tried to strike again, targeting the chest\nof the creature. But the bear could divide his attention between\nGuino and Sérica, quickly turning the scythe and blocking the blow\nwith the blade. Bolico had an idea and called Mimo close. Sérica\ntried to attack the bear again, but without success, the bear was\ngreat at dodging and seemed to anticipate the moves of his opponents.\n- What is it? - Mimo asked to\nBolico.\n- We are small - Bolico\nexplained. - With luck, we can approach behind the bear and deliver\nhim a fatal blow.\n- Risky ... but we at least have\nspears ...\n- We must try. I also fear, but\nthat bear wants to eliminate us ... We must eliminate it first!\nThe beast, after blocking\nGuino's attack, decided to attack him again. Guino tried to defend\nhimself with his sword, but the blow was faster than his reaction.\nGuino was hit in the chest, the scythe pierced it's right side. Since\nGuino had a good amount of muscle mass, the cut was not deep enough\nto kill him immediately, but the pain crippled the ox. The bear\npulled the scythe back. Guino cried, knelt, dropped his sword and\nheld his wound, which was bleeding profusely. Bolico, trembling,\ncrept across the room, waiting for the opportune time to strike.\nSérica tried to attack the beast again, but again he dodged nimbly\nstepping back and getting out of the the dagger's reach.\n- Ira! - Shouted Mimo before\nbiting the bear's leg.\nThe bear turned his attention to\nthe small one. Mimo was clinging to the leg of the bear like a bug,\nreducing his evasion ability. The bear decided to ignore Mimo. Since\nGuino was incapacitated, the last combatant, Sérica, was the last\nobstacle between him and his goal, although said goal was a mystery.\nHe swung his scythe against Sérica and opened another cut, this time\non her wing. Percival, realizing that Mimo was grabbing the leg of\nthe bear, had an idea. He approached, reaching distance of wrestling.\n- Ira too! - Bolico shouted,\ngrabbing the other leg of the bear.\nThe cat bit the leg of the bear,\nas Mimo had done. Sérica, seeing that the cubs had mitigated the\nbear's evasion, tried another attack. She stuck her dagger in the\nchest of the beast, as deep as she could. A purple liquid leaked from\nthe open wound. Certainly it was not blood.\nMimo kept the bite, forcing his\nteeth in the flesh of the creature. Some more of the liquid that\nflowed in the veins of the beast leaked and Mimo could taste it. It\nwas bitter and concentrated. Since his evasion was impaired because\nof the cubs grabbing his legs, the bear quickly moved his scythe\ntowards Mimo, who was hit on the ribs. The excruciating pain\nexperienced by the monkey forced him to release the bear's leg.\nPercival readied his spear and, seizing the moment of distraction,\nthrust the spear deep in the breast meat of the beast. Not a growl\nwas heard. Increasingly, the liquid flowed from the bear to the\nground. Bolico, trembling, freed one of his paws, prepared his own\nspear and his own spear and shoved it in the leg of the bear while\nstill clinging. Suddenly the bear leg bent and he dropped to his\nknees.\n- Now, you unhappy thing -\nSérica spoke, raising her dagger. - Hell awaits you.\nThe dagger pierced the bear's\nhead, going deep, so deep that only the guard of the dagger was left\nout. The bear then began to melt. The dumped their positions and bear\ndissolved slowly in purple, thick and bitter liquid. The only thing\nleft of him was his scythe and a big puddle of whatever that liquid\nwas.\n- Someone ... can you explain\nwhat happened? - Asked Percival.\n- Sure ... - Mático approached.\n- The Great Dungeon houses exotic creatures that are not known at the\nsurface. Most of them are not actually living beings, but constructs\nor summoned automata.\n- Creatures ... that are not\nalive? - Asked Mimo. - It seemed very much alive to me, that creature\n...\n- \"Creature\" is\nperhaps not the right word ... - Continued Mático. - But the bear\nwas certainly not the last opponent. Now, we have to take back Guino\nto recover.\nGuino was on the floor, panting,\nbleeding.\n- He is not the only one - spoke\nSérica, covering the wound on her belly.\nThe group then decided to\nreturn. As they walked, Percival patted Mimo's head. Mimo looked at\nhim.\n- Good work there - said\nPercival. - If you had not distracted the bear, we might have died.\n- Ah, but it was not my idea;\nBolico gave the hint! - Mimo replied aloud, for all to hear.\nPercival looked Bolico, who\nlooked away. Percival smiled and said:\n- Thanks, Bolico, great idea -\nbut nothing more, not wanting to further embarrass the cat.\nThe group then arrived at the\ncamp. They went to the tent of rest where five moles were waiting,\nthree nurses and two summoners. The interior was equipped with three\nbeds and tables that sustained several vials. There was a globe of\nlight floating near the ceiling.\n- Excuse - Sérica said.\nThe moles looked at the group\nand immediately led Sérica, Mimo and Guino to the beds to be\ntreated.\nThey quickly took medical vials\nwith mysterious liquids and applied on the edges of the wounds, using\ncottons. Sérica and Guino groaned in pain during the process, the\nburning of the medicines bothering both. The edges of the wounds then\nbubbled, new flesh gradually growing to close the open cuts. The\nnurses then stopped to let the drugs act.\n- They need rest - one of the\ndoctors said, approach to the group. - Leave them here for a few\nhours.\n- Thank you, ma'am - spoke\nMático.\n- What happened during the\noperation?\n- We were attacked by a magical\nbear - Mimo said from the bed.\nA different medicine was being\nused on Mimo and it didn't burn at all, though the effect was the\nsame.\nThe Mole smiled at Mimo, finding\nhis words funny.\n- It was one of those magical\nbeasts? - She asked.\n- Precisely - Mático said. -\nExpected from underground fauna.\n- You need to be better armed if\nyou want to continue in this job; sticks and stones do not hurt the\nbeasts.\n- We noticed ... - Percival\nsaid.\n- Rest, please - ended the mole\nbefore returning to her post as assistant.\nPercival, Bolico and Mático sat\ndown and waited"}
