After\ntaking that unexpected dive into the lake, I cursed at myself for not\nlearning how to swim in the first place. Placing blame towards\nsomething normally helps reinforce my ego, but targeting myself was a\nhorrible mistake. Once that happened, I found that I couldn't stop\nattacking. All the pushing and prodding that I forced onto my already\nfragile mind triggered something and an uncontrollable rage began to\nbuild up inside me. It flowed around throughout my body, almost as if\nit had somehow gained a life of its own. Before I even knew what had\nhappened, memories of my childhood that I had locked away so long ago\nresurfaced from their forgotten prison.  All that I could do was stare as\nthe events from the past replayed themselves within my mind. Watching\nthe days of my youth made me envious of my former self and I wanted\nto reach out and place myself back into those carefree days. These\nfeelings only lasted for a brief moment as I knew that at the end of\nthis nostalgic journey would come the start of my suffering. \"No, I\ncan't go through something like that again,\" I thought to myself as\nI tried to stop these flashbacks. Before I could recall all the\nhorrific details of that moment, my childhood memories just shattered\nas the built up rage inside me caused me to lurch myself upwards. I\ncould feel my throat burning with an itchy sensation as water was\nexpelled from my lungs, covering part of the ground with a sickening\nsplash. A thumping sensation inside my head coupled with an annoying\nringing resonating in my ears caused me to grasp my head in agony.  Staring out into the space in\nfront of me, I couldn't make anything out. \"What happened to me,\"\nI grumbled out quietly before wiping away the grogginess from my\neyes. The faint noise of someone's voice can barely be heard over the\nringing. Rubbing my eyes seemed to help since they regained their\nfocus just as I looked towards the source of the voice. I was\ncompletely stunned by what I saw. To my left, a totodile was staring\nat me with a concerned look upon its face while on my right was a\nglaring zangoose.  \"Hey Truce, I think she'll be\nalright,\" the totodile turned as she whispered towards her buddy.\nBy now, both my sight and hearing had returned to normal. Looking\nover these two, I noticed that these pokemon were taller then me,\nwhich was-- wait, what did she just say about me? But more\nimportantly, how did I just understand her? \"You will be alright,\nright?\" she asked me with a bit of doubt lingering in her voice. I\njust stared into her amber colored eyes with disbelief. \"I can\nunderstand you?\" I questioned bluntly. Her face scrunched up into a\npuzzling look before saying, \"Of course we can understand each\nother. I mean, we are all pokemon.\" That last sentence confirmed\nall of my fears. The orange and yellow scales and that thick\nlizard-like tail with the flaming tip all pointed to me being one\nthing: a charmander. \"Here, take this,\" Truce\nstated sternly before handing me a bluish berry that looked to be the\nsize of an orange. Turning the fruit around in my paws, my face\nheated up as I felt my stomach rumble a bit. \"I can't take this,\"\nI cried while trying to offer it back. Using his claws, he pushed the\nfruit back and gave me a look that filled me with fear. \"Eat it,\"\nthe zangoose stated sternly. \"It should restore both your stamina\nand vitality. After what you just went through, I think you need it\nthe more then we do.\" Hesitantly, I got the fruit up close to my\nmaw, sniffed it a little, and gave it a test bite. A few seconds\nlater, the berry was no more.  Standing up, I wobbled as I\ntried to find my center of balance. A blue paw grasped my shoulder\ngently. \"Lemme help you,\" the totodile smiled. I nodded and\nleaned on her for a bit. \"So who are you guys?\" I asked her while\ntaking a few shaky steps. \"Oh! My name's Liru and that's Truce,\"\nshe said pointing at the zangoose. \"Right now he's teaching me the\nbasics of--.\" A fear filled screech pierced the air, drawing our\nattention towards the general direction of its source. \"Let's go\nLiru,\" Truce shouted. Liru nodded and turned to leave. \"Sorry,\nbut I gotta go. Be safe, okay?\" Another cry echoed out into the\nopen, causing the two to start running. I watched as their bodies\ndisappeared into the thick foliage of the forest. Walking up to the\nlake, I looked into the waters to see my new self staring back at me\nwith bright green eyes. Looking back at the bush that they went in\nto, I felt something in my gut that told me to follow them. Without\nquestioning it, I ran off after them."}
