Some call it that voice in their head that pops up when they get a great idea for something. I just call it my inspiration. Specifically as it applies to my writing and poetry.","content":"* * *\n\nHow does your inspiration strike?\n\nDoes it brush your attention  \nlike the rustling of wind  \nthrough the trees?\n\nDoes it tap steadily at the  \nwindows like a light rain on a   \ncloudy day?\n\nDoes it knock harshly  \nat the door or stand by  \npatiently as you push it  \naside to attend to other matters?\n\nMy inspiration is a whirlwind.  \nA tornado. An earthquake.  \nA lightning bolt that crashes   \ndown three feet from where  \nyou are standing leaving  \nyou breathless and excited with  \nfear and adrenaline.\n\nMy inspiration does not knock  \nlightly or stand by patiently.  \nNo it slams open the door and   \nraces inside letting lose a constant  \nstream of words before I can  \neven begin to grasp what's going on.\n\nI shoves aside all other cares and  \nrips away whatever I have in my hands.  \nIt ignores all pleas I have about  \nanything else and it forces me to pay  \nattention.\n\nIt clears out any other thoughts  \nor tasks and slams down its book  \nfull of ideas and theories with such  \nrelish and such enthusiasm that I   \ncannot help but be captivated by  \nits pride and satisfaction.\n\nMy inspiration does not whisper,  \nit ROARS. It screams, it cries,  \nit pounds at the door of my   \nattention so loudly that  \nI cannot accomplish anything  \nuntil I first give it my full attention.\n\nIt refuses to be ignored and it  \nworks tirelessly in the  \nbackground even after I   \nam finally able to work again.\n\nIt writes itself in the pages of  \nbooks and on the screens  \nof tv shows. It whispers to  \nme through the words others  \nspeak and write and it sings   \nthrough the music filling my ears.\n\nMy inspiration comes not with  \na polite call for attention but   \nwith selfish demands and an  \ninsistence that I give it my  \nexclusive devotion whenever it  \ndeems necessary to drop by.\n\nMy inspiration is all consuming.\n\nAnd it supports me like nothing   \nand no one else.\n\nMy inspiration refuses to be insulted.   \nMocked. Put down. Bullied.   \nDisrespected. Abused. Reviled.\n\nIt will claw and tear and rip   \napart any who dare to say that  \nit is not good enough. That I   \nam not good enough.\n\nIt points out the flaws in  \nmy writing not to tear me  \ndown but to tell me that next   \ntime it will be even better  \nthan before.\n\nIt refuses to let me sit in   \nmisery or wallow in   \ndiscouragement.\n\nIt believes that all obstacles  \ncan be overcome with enough  \nwill power and perseverance.\n\nIt will not allow me to listen  \nto anyone who would tell me  \nthat my writing is not good   \nenough.\n\nMy inspiration is loud.  \nDemanding.  \nOverzealous.  \nConfident.  \nProud.  \nArrogant.  \nIt changes it's mind all the   \ntime and loses interest all to  \nquickly sometimes.\n\nBut it has never let me down  \nand it will never allow me  \nto give up.\n\n  \n  \n\n","series":{"name":"National Poetry Writing Month","previous":"https://fse.anthro.fr/stories/695722-destiny.json","next":"https://fse.anthro.fr/stories/696615-passion.json"}}
