We don't talk as much as we used to, but they will always have a special place in my heart. And with this National Poetry Writing Month is complete! I finished a poem each and every day and I am so proud of myself for doing so!\nI see no reason to stop though so look forward to more poems in the future! Maybe not as rapidly as this but still hopefully rather frequently.","content":"* * *\n\nWhat is it that defines  \na best friend? What   \nseparates them and sets  \nthem apart from all of the  \nother people who have   \nentered and left our lives?\n\nWhy are we drawn to them  \nand why do we hold onto  \nthem while letting others  \ndrift in and out our lives?\n\nIs it because they are so  \ndifferent from us? Or because  \nthey are just like us?\n\nIs it the way they listen to  \nus without talking? Or the  \nway they talk all the time  \nso that we don't have to?\n\nIs it their loyalty?  \nTheir kindness?  \nOur history together?\n\nMaybe it is something  \nwe once knew but   \ncan no longer define  \nor put into words.\n\nMaybe we've been friends  \nfor so long that we don't  \nremember why we still  \nare.\n\nWe just know that we   \ncould not live a single  \nday without them in our  \nlives.\n\nEven if you don't talk  \nthat often or see each  \nother more then a few   \ntimes a year.\n\nThere is still that unspoken  \nbond between you.\n\nAll the times you fell  \napart and they were there  \nto pick you up again.\n\nSometimes with kind words.  \nSometimes with a much   \nneeded dose of reality.\n\nAll the fights you had.  \nOr the times you had to   \nfight in order to keep them  \nin your life.\n\nMaybe we don't talk  \nlike we used to. Or see  \neach other like we used to.\n\nBut you are and always  \nwill be my best friend.  \nYou've saved me in so many  \nways. Ways that I will never  \nforget.\n\nWays that I cannot thank you  \nenough for.\n\nYou have been there to help  \nme, to support me even when   \nyou couldn't begin to understand   \nwhat I was going through or  \nwhy I was so angry.\n\nTo me a best friend is   \nsomeone you know you  \ncan always count on.\n\nMaybe they aren't there by  \nyour side 24/7 but when it  \nreally counts. When you really  \nneed them the most they have never  \nand will never fail to be there for you.\n\nTo me a best friend isn't someone  \nwho is there for you every minute  \nof every day.\n\nYou don't have to speak to them  \nevery day or even every week.  \nYou don't have to see them all   \nthe time or hang out with them  \nevery weekend.\n\nMaybe they aren't there every day.  \nBut they will always be there when  \nit counts.\n\n  \n  \n\n","series":{"name":"National Poetry Writing Month","previous":"https://fse.anthro.fr/stories/699135-enough.json"}}
