I am\nspeaking of the forbidden forest that we were never to enter. My father had\nventured there when he was a young colt, but he never talked about it. Even\nwhen I asked about it, he would always say, \"You're too young to know such\nthings. When you're older...maybe.\" All the older mares were scared of the\nforest, but no one would tell me why. If they can't tell a colt of 17 years of\nage what goes on in that forest, then it must be bad. I was an unruly colt, a\nbit rebellious. All the fillies stayed away from me. I think it might have been\nbecause their fathers told them to. Well, most all of them. There was one filly\nby the name of Arya. She is quite something to look at. Not real tall, but\nslender and athletic. She had dark brown fur mixed with patched of white. Her hair\nand tail were both white. I really liked the patch of white right across her\nright eye that went down to her cheek. My fur is a lighter brown than hers, but\nmy unruly hair and tail are dark brown. We would hang out quite a lot at\nschool. She was curious about the forest too, but not as much as I was.Sometimes I would go to a hill overlooking the edge of the forest and\nstare at it for hours hoping I'd see something. Or hear something. I never did.\nIt was almost as if the forest knew that I was there, and decided itself not to\nmake noise. I wanted so bad to just go to the edge of the forest, but it was\ndrilled in to my mind by my father and all the older mares that the forest was\nto be feared. Just what was it that everyone was so afraid of?One day I was sitting down in the grass atop the hill overlooking the\nforest, as I always do. Dark clouds were in the sky, no sun to be found. It was\ndawn; quite an eerie setting. And then I heard it. That one thing that I was\nwaiting for and I heard it! It was not what I was expecting though. Singing. A\nfemale's voice. The most beautiful voice\nid ever heard. She was singing to what sounded like an old Celtic song.\"Young blood, young blood, I desire, so much.Come here, come here, and retire to my touch.\"It was tantalizing. I stood up and stepped a bit closer. I began to walk.\nThe closer I came to the tree line, the louder the singing became. I still had\na ways to go until I reached the tree line, but the singing kept drawing me\ncloser...and closer. I was almost there when something grabbed me by\nthe arm...It was my father. My father is a very strong stallion with black fur,\nand black tail and hair. He quite startled me, but not because of the sudden\ngrab. He was looking around in all directions as if he knew something was\ncoming. He looked me in the eyes. I'd never seen my father so scared.\"Look away from the forest, and do not look back\" he said, still quite shaken.We started walking away from the forest. The voice was still singing. I\nwanted to look back, but was too afraid. The words she kept singing seemed to\nhave this affect on me. It wanted me to stop. It wanted me to turn around and\nlook back. I felt this chill in the air and then a noise from behind.I looked back.The singing stopped. My father stopped. He stood still. Too still. He didn't\nmove. He was frozen. I tried to free my hand, but my father's grip was too\ntight. The air became colder and my father's hand became ice cold. There were\nfigures coming out of the forest. I could not see well. Something in the air\nwas creating this light blue fog. I tried again to break free from my father's\ngrip when something let loose this horrific sound. I high pitched screech. One that\nsent shivers down your spine. My hand was free. But not for the reason you\nmight think. I looked at my father as he broke into thousand tiny pieces. I\nfell to my knees. Tears came to my eyes. I could not believe what was\nhappening, but it was no dream. You can't feel pain in a dream. My hand was\nred, and bleeding from my father's grip. The tears from my eyes landed on my\nwrist. It stung. Something was approaching. I turned. I made out a figure in\nthe fog, but could not keep my eyes open. My eyelids grew heavy. Something was\nputting me to sleep. I heard it again. The singing. It was coming from the\nfigure approaching me. I could barely make out what it was before I fell into\nthis deep sleep. It was a Vixen, a Kitsune."}
