More like a mashup of Kraken's, leviathans, and massive sea monsters. This poem will be in the poetry book I'm writing but may be altered or changed for the final version.","content":"* * *\n\nSilent king of the  \ndepths. The bane of  \nall sailors who dare  \nto travel near his   \ngreat halls.\n\nEach one more arrogant  \nthan the last. Each one  \nbelieving that they  \nshall be the ones to  \nfinally kill the Kraken.\n\nSail your ships and   \nmark your charts.  \nSail to the ends of the  \nearth until dark.\n\nTravel by moonlight.  \nTravel by starlight.  \nTravel until you can  \nno longer keep your eyes  \nopen.\n\nPast the edge of the   \nearth and beyond.\n\nClose your ears to  \nthe enchanting tune  \nof the sirens. Do not  \nlook upon the mermaids  \nwith alluring eyes and   \nwickedness in their hearts.\n\nGrab your hooks and   \ngrab your spears. Tend  \nyour nets and banish  \nyour fear.\n\nFor the Kraken knows  \nyou are near.\n\nWill you be the one?  \nThe one who banishes  \nthe great monster from  \nthe depths?\n\nWill you take revenge  \nfor family or friends?  \nWill you seek the glory  \nthat only comes from  \ndefeating the greatest  \nof sea monsters?\n\nOne dares to stand above  \nall the rest. One dares to  \ntravel where all others  \nfear to sail.\n\nPast the sirens and  \nmermaids. Beyond the  \nsea dragons and water  \nserpents.\n\nPast schools of mythical  \nfish large enough to feed  \nhis crew for months.\n\nIgnore all temptation.  \nFight past all fear.  \nConfront all dangers.  \nSteadfast in a search  \nfor the last of his kind.\n\nA captain who has traveled  \nthe world. Conquered the  \nworld. Charted lands that  \nfew people believe even  \nexist.\n\nA great ocean where   \nthe sun never rises  \nand the waves travel  \nunder the light of an  \neternal moon.\n\nMan the decks!  \nMind the sails!  \nGrab your weapons,  \nswords, and shields!\n\nThe time has come upon  \nus! Fight for your lives!  \nFight for glory!\n\nFight the last Kraken  \nto live upon the earth.\n\nFor the great captain  \nhas already slaughtered  \nall the others.\n\nThe seas are safe again.  \nFree for travel and   \nexploration.\n\nOnly one last hurdle  \nremains. Only one last  \nbeast to be taken care of.\n\nLet the seas boil and  \nlet the monster roar.  \nThe captain fears not  \nthe warning at death's  \ndoor.\n\nFor what is a beast  \nbefore a man?\n\nA monster before  \nthe best of hunters?\n\nProudly standing at  \nthe front of the ship.  \nSpear and hook in hand.\n\nThe ocean boils as the  \ngreat sea serpent comes  \nto defend his land.\n\nLarge enough to sink  \na ship or eat several   \nmen whole.\n\nListen to the roar of  \nmen as they scream  \ntheir defiance and pride.\n\nWatch as the last of all  \nthe Kraken is speared  \nand sliced in his side.\n\nFighting with dying breath  \nto sink just one more ship.  \nInstead it dies under nets  \nand iron. Never to see  \nthe moon again.\n\nHear the laughter of  \nmen as they rejoice over  \ntheir final trophy.\n\nProof of their victory  \nand of oceans made   \nsafe from a tyrant.\n\nMan the decks!  \nMind the sails!  \nOur work here is done!  \nWe have won without fail!\n\nBut as the ship turns  \nproudly under the bright  \nlight of the full moon...\n\n...there comes an eerie  \nsound in an all too  \nfamiliar tune.\n\nWatch the ships crew  \nas they stare around in  \nfright. Gazing upon  \nthe Kraken they had  \njust slain that night.\n\nHow could there be  \nanother? It must be  \nsome foul trick.\n\nVoices of pride turn  \nto fear as the ocean   \nexplodes beneath  \ntheir ship.\n\nRipping the proud  \nvessel apart as if it  \nwere merely a twig.\n\nSpears of iron meet  \nspears of wood as the  \nhunting ship meets its  \nend.\n\nMen desperately search  \nfor safety as the sea   \nawakens beneath them.\n\nLooming high above  \nand rising from deep below  \ncomes a second Kraken  \nthat is a far more dangerous  \nthan any previous foe.\n\nIt rises above their heads  \nilluminated by the moon.  \nA monster that could  \ndevour not men but  \nmountains and drive  \neven armies to their doom.\n\nAs it lowers its great head  \nto meet the captain's eyes,  \nhe realizes his mistake  \nas he sees a reflection  \nof his own demise.\n\nThe great king laying slain   \namong the broken timbers   \nof his ship was no king at all.\n\nFor his men have not been   \nhunting not monsters but  \nchildren. Each of their   \ndying screams another   \npain of agony in the heart  \nof the one who raised them.\n\nNow the empress has   \ncome with all the rage of   \nthe sea and with eyes of  \nhate she whispers what  \nyou could not see.\n\nMen dragging innocent   \ncreaturesto their death.   \nLaughing as they harvest   \nthem while they are still alive.\n\nKilling off those who have  \nrested peacefully in their  \nocean homes for centuries.\n\nAnd when her children  \nrose to protect the innocent   \nthey were hunted and slaughtered  \nlike mere witless beasts.\n\nJust another trophy on  \na wall filled with blood   \nstained glory.\n\nPoison fills the water.  \nGreat ocean homes now  \nlie broken and abandoned.\n\nStill humans come even  \nbeyond the edges of the  \nearth to take what does  \nnot belong to them.\n\nFor the first time the   \ncaptain who thought his  \npower so great sees himself   \nas the ocean does.\n\nHe is no hunter but a   \nmurderer of children and  \nnow their mother has   \ncome to take her revenge.\n\nFor there is no force alive  \nthat can escape the rage  \nof the sea.\n\n_Written July 5th, 2014_\n\n  \n  \n\n","series":{"name":"Poems","previous":"https://fse.anthro.fr/stories/718953-gleaming-gold.json","next":"https://fse.anthro.fr/stories/736286-improve-the-silence.json"}}
