She is a fantastic poet and if you have a moment then I highly recommend looking her up or browsing some of her spoken word videos on her YouTube channel. Meet Yourself In The Mirror by Ashley Wylde is a video that EVERYONE needs to see.","content":"* * *\n\nIt was once stated that  \nyou should not speak  \nunless you can improve  \nthe silence.\n\nSo many of us speak  \nout into the silence  \nwriting lines of poetry  \nthat others will never see,  \nnever hear, never get even  \nthe smallest glimpse of.\n\nSome of us speak out  \ninto the air and hope that  \nmaybe one day our words  \nwill come back to us after  \nthey have touched someone  \nand changed them for the better.\n\nSo few of us ever truly believe  \nthat we are good at what we  \ndo no matter how many times  \nothers may tell us that we  \nare special.\n\nSome of us speak for others  \nand most of us speak for ourselves  \nand sometimes we are told that  \nit is beautiful.\n\nI believe that words are power  \nand with them we can change  \nthe world.\n\nMaybe not the whole world  \nbut maybe some small part of it  \nand if something I say can help  \njust one person feel better then  \nI will consider my job done.\n\nHave you ever met a person and  \nknown in that moment that their  \nwords would change you forever?\n\nI don't remember how I found  \nthem, only that I did.\n\nI don't remember what they said  \nbut can never, will never, forget  \nhow they made me feel.\n\nFor in that instant I knew that  \nI had found someone whose  \nwords would shake the world.\n\nMaybe not the whole world,  \nbut _my_ world.\n\nSince then their words have  \nchallenged my view of the  \nworld. Of who I am. Of who  \nI thought I was and of who I  \nwant to be.\n\nWithin just a few short minutes  \ntheir words ripped away years of  \ninternal struggle and agony like  \na bandage, leaving me changed  \nforever.\n\nIt was as if I had been wandering  \naround in the darkness and finally  \nfound someone who knew just how  \nto turn on the lights.\n\nSometimes words are empty  \nmeaningless things tossed into  \nthe air and scattered by the wind.\n\nSometimes they are bullets that  \nwound and kill the souls of all  \nthey touch.\n\nSometimes they are seeds that  \ngrow and sprout in the hearts  \nof others. Spreading beauty  \nand healing wherever they land.\n\nI found someone whose words  \ncan shake the earth and change  \na person's viewpoint on themselves  \nand on everything that goes on  \naround them.\n\nAnd I wish that I had the skills  \nand wisdom necessary to tell  \nthem just how badly I needed  \ntheir words in my life.\n\nI desperately wish that I could  \narticulate to them just how  \nmuch I needed to hear what  \nthey said and how badly  \nthe world needs more people  \nlike them in it.\n\nPeople who speak out from the  \nheart with an emotion and a  \npassion that others spend their  \nentire lives trying to hide.\n\nPeople who have the courage  \nto speak out in the hopes that  \nothers will hear something they  \nneed in that moment.\n\nPeople who don't realize just  \nhow courageous they are.\n\nHer words have changed my  \nworld and left me altered and  \nchanged forever. Changed for  \nthe better.\n\nAlthough I may never get the  \nchance to say that to her in person  \nat least I can attempt to do so  \nthrough a poem.\n\nPeople may not always remember  \nwhat you said, but they will never  \nforget how you made them feel  \nand when I hear her words I  \nfinally feel as if I have found  \nsomeone who gets it.\n\nSomeone who truly understands  \nwithin the depths of their soul  \nthat with the power of words  \nalone we can shape the world  \naround us and even around others.\n\nMaybe they don't see it.  \nMaybe they don't believe it.  \nBut they will one day and I  \ncan only hope that I will be  \nthere to see it.\n\n_--__Written July 22, 2014_\n\n  \n  \n\n","series":{"name":"Poems","previous":"https://fse.anthro.fr/stories/736279-rage-of-the-sea.json","next":"https://fse.anthro.fr/stories/739635-eyes-of-the-eagle.json"}}
