How's it going?\"\n\n\"I'm doing... fine.\"\n\n\"Okay, love. I- ...\"\n\n\"Are you alright? You-\"\n\n\"I said I'm fine.\"\n\n\"Tell me, what's the matter? Dear-\"\n\n\"Carter, please. Stop. I can't... I can't take this anymore.\"\n\n\"I'm going over. I am no-\"\n\n_Click._\n\nThe young man looks around the apartment.\n\nHe can see his things.\n\nHe can see his T.V.\n\nHis cabinets.\n\nThe chest.\n\nHe frowns.\n\nWas he guilty?\n\nProbably.\n\nHe looks back at the number.\n\nHe sighs.\n\nTaking out his watch, the man looks at the time.\n\n5:10 pm.\n\n50 more minutes.\n\n...\n\nThe young man closed his eyes, not wanting to see.\n\nHe didn't want to.\n\nHe didn't want to see his girlfriends broken face.\n\nHis \"flings\" broken heart.\n\nHe slowly picks up the cell phone again.\n\nThe young man calls the number on the piece of paper.\n\n\"Hello...?\"\n\nThe voice was still the same.\n\nIt still sounded comforting.\n\nYet...\n\nWith a cracked voice, the man said, \"Brother...\"\n\nSilence.\n\nThe young man's breath started to waver.\n\n\"... How the hell did you find me, you disgusting prick?\"\n\n...\n\nHe quickly threw the phone away from him, at the wall.\n\nThe phone was broken.\n\nHe looked outside.\n\nThe rain was pouring.\n\nWas he guilty?\n\nYes.\n\nHe could see cars coming and going.\n\nOne of them could be Carter.\n\nOr her.\n\nHe started sobbing.\n\nThis was too much.\n\nThe drugs started to lose it's effect just a few days ago.\n\nHe panicked.\n\nNow here he was.\n\nHurting.\n\nHe looked at one of the cabinets.\n\n...\n\nThe thing was in there.\n\nHe looked at the clock.\n\n5:15 pm.\n\nIt was going to be a long hour.\n\nHe knew he wouldn't survive it.\n\nThat is, if Carter arrived.\n\nHe knew he would come.\n\nHe would make things better.\n\nBut...\n\nThere was his girlfriend...\n\nHe didn't want to tell Carter about her.\n\nIt might hurt him.\n\nAnd he doesn't want to hurt the loveable guy.\n\nAfter all, Carter is the only one who cares about him.\n\n5:16 pm.\n\nThe man looks at the telephone.\n\nHe still knows her number.\n\nMay as well get that over with...\n\nHe gets up.\n\nSlowly walks there.\n\nPicks up the phone.\n\nDials her number.\n\n\"Hi Dennis! How are you?\"\n\n\"Fine... You?\"\n\n\"I was doing some homework. Were you at work again? Is that why you didn't pick up your phone?\"\n\nSilence.\n\n\"... Dennis?\"\n\n\"Look, this is pathetic, but I am breaking up with you.\"\n\nSilence.\n\nA tear slowly goes down his face.\n\n\"... What?\"\n\n\"Yes, I'm breaking up with you. I was happy were together, but I can see nothing happening between us.\"\n\nSilence.\n\nClick.\n\nDennis put the phone back into the reviever.\n\nHe leans against the counter top.\n\nSighs.\n\nClenches his fists.\n\nLooks at clock.\n\n5:20 pm\n\nDennis goes and sits down again. His heart is clear. His head is clear.\n\nHis forehead is hot.\n\nHe feels sick.\n\nDennis lays on the couch.\n\nHe just lays there.\n\nTill he hears thumping.\n\nIt's from his door.\n\nHe just frowns, closes his eyes, and weeps.\n\nSoftly.\n\nAlone.\n\nThen...\n\nHe opens the door.\n\nThere he was.\n\nCarter.\n\nHe quickly hugged him.\n\nAffectionately crushed him, really.\n\n\"Dennis...\"\n\nDennis didn't have time to register what happened next.\n\nAll he knew was that he was crying. He was talking. And, most importantly, not alone. Not anymore.\n\n  \n  \n\n","series":{"name":"Inspired By...","previous":"https://fse.anthro.fr/stories/544192-sleepyhead.json","next":"https://fse.anthro.fr/stories/807741-colour-me-in.json"}}
