Next to that strange object was a creature stretched out on the ground. She did recognize this thing though as a human. When she was just a foal her uncle Thowra had told her many stories about these creatures. He told her that most time's these creatures were dangerous, but there were also some among their kind who were very gentle and had a great respect for the woods and there residents.

Normally her instincts would tell her to keep a far distance from this human. But her curiosity took over from there when she tried to smell the man's face.

Marcus was groaning when he noticed blasts of hot breath tickling his face. When he opened his eyes he saw a horse very close to his head. He immediately jumped up and backwards then yelled at the horse "What the fuck!?"

The mare instantly flipped around and bolted a couple of feet spooked by the man's reaction, but for some reason she didn't run away. After his brain started to wake up and register everything around him he begins to take a closer look at the horse, then he noticed it was not harmful and was more afraid of him than he was of her. He tried to calm it down.

"Easy there, it's alright I was just Spooked by you, and nothing more."

Marcus took a good look at the horse upon his reaction. "I am not going to hurt you." he said in a low, soothing voice.

Luna stopped moving when she heard his words. She screamed at him "Go away and leave me alone!"

When Marcus heard the mare say this, he just smiled at her "Um sorry but you are the one who is on my campsite."

Luna heard the man say this and was about to say something, when suddenly her brain noticed something that didn't seem right.

"Hey, you can understand me?" The mare asked, shocked by that fact.

He was trying to figure out a way to not give the mare any more stress from these new developments.

"Yes I can understand you, and you can also understand me, I know that this is very strange for you. But if you try to calm down and not to panic, I will explain all this to you. The last thing I want is you stressing out."

Luna heard every word the man was saying. How easy it could be to just run away and forget all this. But she was also very curious about this strange man.

When she was finally breathing normally she started watching him with big eyes and keeping a safe distance.

Marcus was thinking about a good way to tell her this. He just thought at first, that a proper introduction was needed. "So tell me, what is your name?"..........

A couple of hours had passed by and the Human was sitting at a camp fire, next to him standing was the horse that earlier was afraid of him. But after their introduction to each other and the story she had heard from him. She was a lot calmer.

Luna was very impressed by the man's story, who she now called Marcus. She had learned that he was a loner, someone who was always travelling from place to place.

He also told her the story of the day that he was gifted, or cursed (as he named it), with the ability to understand the animal language of every creature. No human had ever had this kind of gift.

But somehow she thought that there must be more behind this story than he would've liked to tell her, and that he just told her the basic version. The version was that he got cursed by some kind of spirit that he encountered in a cave where he was looking for shelter in a heavy storm. However, when she asked him some questions about his meeting with the ghost and his earlier human life, he would just ignore her question saying that he didn't want to talk about it right now.

Luna was frustrated by his answer and her curiosity wanted to know more about him. On the other hand she didn't want to push him, afraid that she would bother him too much. When she noticed the silence between them she was thinking about something to talk about. Luna was about to say something when Marcus interrupted her.

"So, what about you Luna. What is a nice mare like you doing here in the lonely woods?"

Luna had forgotten that she wanted to know so much about him. That she hadn't told him more about herself.

"I always like to go to this place when I want to sleep quietly, away from my father's herd."

Marcus gave her a smile. "So I'm not the only one that likes it here, I hope you don't mind that I'm occupying 'your place'." Luna found it strange that he called the woods 'her place'.

"This isn't my place but it's for every creature in the woods, and no I don't mind, I just never expected to find a Human at this field."

Marcus was relieved that he hadn't disturbed the mares' privacy.

He was thinking about what the mare said earlier.

"You mentioned your father's herd. Do you still live there?"

"Yes, why wouldn't I be?" the mare looked annoyed at him.

"I just thought that a mare of your age would have already left the herd. I guess I was wrong then" He was looking at here with an apologizing look.

She was feeling guilty for snapping at him while she was looking at his face when he was apologizing to her for his mistake. It was not his fault that she was "different".

"I'm sorry for snapping at you earlier. It's just that everyone is always asking me the same question, but you are right. A normal mare would already be away from their family and starting a new one. I guess that I'm just different." said Luna with a sigh.

"Are you happy there?" is the only thing Marcus asked.

"Yes I can't think of a better place than with my family."

"Good. That's the only thing I want to know, the important thing is that you are happy, and there is nothing strange about that."

Luna gave him an odd look after he gave that answer. _Why doesn't he want to know more about my reasons? Am I not interesting enough or am I just boring him with my stories?_

The mare was shaken from her thoughts when Marcus stood up.

"I don't want to be rude, but I think it's time for me to have some sleep."

"Oh. Goodnight then." Luna said a little bit disappointed "I shall go to my own spot then." The mare started to walk to the other side of the field when Marcus stopped her.

"Hey wait a minute! I didn't say that you need to go."

"But I thought you said that you wanted to sleep?"

"Yes, I do. But that didn't mean that you're not welcome here anymore. Just stay here by the fire it's a lot warmer for you and besides, I like you company." he smiled at her.

Luna didn't understand why the human wanted her as his company. She just thought that she was a bother to him.

Marcus placed some extra wood in the campfire so it would burn for the rest of the night.

He looked up at her again giving a sign that it was alright.

Finally the Mare took his invitation and was standing by her old spot where the two of them were just talking.

"I'll leave my tent open, so if you need anything just wake me okay?"

Luna didn't understand what he meant when he said the word "tent" But didn't want to bother him by asking what it meant. "Ok. I'll watch out for any danger then."

Marcus gave a little chuckle at her answer.

"Alright, thank you for standing watch tonight. Goodnight." After saying that, he started to crawl into his tent to go to sleep.

"Goodnight." was her only answer to him.

After she heard the human snoring. She started processing everything that happened that day.

_Why is he so nice to me?_ She asked herself.

_Uncle Thowras' Stories always convinced me that humans' where nothing but trouble. But this one is very nice._ Many questions were left unanswered for her. But she just didn't want to think about it right now. Tomorrow would be a new day and maybe more of her questions would be answered.
