#20 of Poems

This is another poem for my poetry book. This is based off of the Mongolian Death Worm which is rumored to spit acid, turn things yellow and corrode them, and can discharge electricity.
Don't believe me? Google it.

Hidden by the desert
sands as they shift
underneath the blazing
sun.

Silently stalking both
human and animal
alike as they dare to
enter its domain.

Skies remain clear
yet the tingle of
electricity continues
to travel down your
spine.

Hair stands on end
and the feeling of
being watched refuses
to go away.

Not watched.

Hunted.

Pursued by a monster
spoken of only in
whispers and legends.

A flash of red here.
A long body vanishing
beneath the sands over
there.

You can look all you like
but you will never catch
it out in the open.

The first time you see it
will also be the last as its
acid eats through you
like a fire burns through
the woods.

Corrosive poison that
turns its victims yellow
with death and corrosion.

You are just another
animal pursued by a
hunter who is smarter
and more patient then
you.

One fully adapted to
its environment while
humans try to shape
it to meet their demands.

Don't bother trying to
call for help. Not with
your voice. For there
is no one around for
miles.

Don't bother trying
to pull out your
phone. For the spark
of electricity has already
turned its components
to dead weight.

Don't try to run.
It will only pursue
you even more.

A creature with
bowels of acid lies
in wait for you beneath
the blazing sands.

Once you have been
chosen as its next
meal all you can do
is wait and pray that
your death is not
a slow one.
