{"sf1_id":866018,"sf2_id":"B1Qw4lZm","title":"Furs and feathers","author":"james mikoto","words":201,"posted_at":"2015-05-26T01:42:00.000Z","tags":["Feathers","Football","Poems","Poetry","furs"],"url":"https://fse.anthro.fr/stories/866018-furs-and-feathers","original_url":"https://sofurry.com/s/B1Qw4lZm","image_url":"https://cdn.sofurryfiles.com/submissions/thumbnails/42/21/4221dc18-ffc9-4b29-8f8c-9952fc2c842b","description":"#1 of poetry","content":"The emus formed a football team  \nUp the field far\u0026nbsp;away;  \nTheir dark-brown sweaters were smooth as\u0026nbsp;cream  \nBut kangaroos would sit and scream  \nTo watch them play.  \n  \n'butterfingers,' they would call,  \nAnd suck-like names;  \nThe emus couldn't hold the ball  \nThey had no hands, but hands aren't all  \nIn football games.  \n  \nA match against the kangaroos  \nThey played one day.  \nThe kangaroos were forced to choose  \nSome wallabies and wallaroos  \nThat played in grey.  \n  \nThe rules that in the west prevail  \nWould shock the town;  \nFor when a kangaroo set sail  \nAn emu jumped upon his tail  \nAnd fetched him down.  \n  \nA whistler duck as referee  \nWas not admired.  \nHe whistled so incessantly  \nThe teams rebelled, and up a tree  \nHe soon retired.  \n  \nThe old marsupial captain said,  \n'It's do or die!'  \nSo down the ground like fire he fled  \nAnd leaped above an emu's head  \nAnd scored a try.  \n  \nThen shouting, 'Keep it on the toes!'  \nThe emus came.  \nFierce as the blooded game froze\u0026nbsp;  \nThey laid their foes and\u0026nbsp;men out in rows  \nAnd saved the game.  \n  \nIn native bear and Darling pea  \nThey dined that night:  \nBut one man was an absentee:  \nThe whistler duck, their referee,  \nHad taken flight.  \n  \n\n","series":{"name":"poetry","next":"https://fse.anthro.fr/stories/867478-feel-good.json"}}
