Hidden beneath a condemned\nbuilding near the Lake Ontario waterfront, the base is operated and inhabited\nby Warp's friend and ally, former Yakuza member Akio Akechi, who creates his\ntools and also designed his costume. The Bunker is powered by a diesel-fueled\ngenerator hidden in the basement of the building above, which is sealed off by\na boarded-up door.\nThe\nBunker consists of only four rooms. The main room, where Akio spends most of\nhis day, is called the work area, and divided into two sections; the work\nbench, where Warp's tools are made by Akio himself, and the listening post with\na state-of-the-art computer, a police scanner, and a radio and television that\nare always tuned to local news networks, where Warp can monitor happenings\naround the city while not out on patrol. Since Akio never leaves The Bunker, a\nfold-out cot is placed next to the listening post where he can sleep.\nThe\nother two rooms are located at the back. The first is known as the wash closet,\nwhere a laundry and bathroom facilities can be found, tapped directly into the\ncity's water main, and the base has its own hot water heater, powered by\nelectricity. The next room over is the medical room, with all the necessary\nitems for first-aid if Warp is injured in the field or if he rescues someone\nwho is hurt, and includes a second cot.\nSkills:\nMartial\nRed\nSash level in Muai Thai, side-trained in Krabi-krabong (staff-fighting)\nHas\nmastered every fist and elbow technique in Muai Thai\nSpecializes\nin Blocking\nUses\nthe Flying Knee technique for surprise attacks\nAdept\nin Pressure Points\nMental\nMaster's\ndegree in Mathematics\nSpecializes\nin Calculations\nCareer\nAccountant, specialty in bookkeeping\nAdept\nin basic psychology\nUses\nAmbush tactics to take on entire groups of criminals\nPhysical\nCan\nbenchpress 250 pounds, and leg press 560\nFlexible\nbody\nHighly\ndeveloped reflexes\nWeakness(es):\n-No\nstronger or faster than other athletes of his size\nTeleportation\nis limited to only two kilometers. Ah, but maybe I flatter\nmyself believing even that. The public knows me as a mere Accountant in the\ncity of Toronto. I graduated from University as a Mathematician and in\nAccounting specializing in bookkeeping and general mathematics -most call me a\ngenius at calculations and algebra, but if you know how to read them I really\ndo not find them all that complicated. But, it was enough to land me a job with\nhonors at a rather prestigious firm in Toronto.\nNow, for the sake\nof protecting my associates from prying eyes that may find this journal of\nmine, I will not name the accounting firm I work for. I will simply refer to it\nas... 'The Workplace', for now.\nBut the world\nknows me by other names -names that are not public knowledge, that when heard\nare not traced back to me, but to a vigilante that prowls the streets of\nToronto, preying upon the criminal underworld. Names that, honestly sound silly\nto me sometimes, but they bring terror to the unjust -robbers, killers, and most\nof all, foreign crime factions.\nThe Ghost of\nToronto.\nThe Terror of\nForeign Crime.\nThe Mob-Killer\n-though I do stress, I have not killed anyone.\nThe Patriotic\nVigilante.\nOkay, that\nlast one made me laugh when I first heard it... it must be because I have\ncustomized the colours of my uniform to match that of the Canadian Flag. I\nconfess, I love my country; does that make me a patriot? Perhaps it does, but I\nlike to believe my patriotism is my willingness to bring Canada where it always\nshould have been; to prevent this multicultural wonder of the world from\nbecoming a den of thieves from other countries. Scum like the Triads, the\nYakuza, the Mafia factions of Russia, Germany, Italy -all of those, and the\nHell's Angels alike. The biggest names in organized crime...\nAnd the first\nvictims of my vengeance when I became The Warp.\nYes... I was\nmotivated by loss and revenge in the beginning. My mother and father were both\nkilled by foreign crime syndicates; like myself, my mother was an accountant,\nand worked for the mob unknowingly. When she found out the truth, she did not\ncower behind the knowledge; she did the right thing, turning all the\ninformation she had over to the RCMP and trusting them to deal with the mob.\nI assume you\nbelieve this is where I say the RCMP were bought out, and gunned her down\nthemselves or sold her to the mob for their own profit? Were my story so\npredictable, perhaps I would not even need to tell it.\nNo... the RCMP\nattempted to deal with the mob; they were not bought out, they simply had never\nfound enough evidence against them until then. They made their move on Mafia\nhideouts, resulting in a firefight that chased them out of the city. However,\non their way out, they chose to tie up loose ends; they indiscriminately killed\neveryone who worked for them, except for 'family' -namely anyone who wasn't\npart of the mob directly became new inhabitants of the local mortuary...\nincluding my mother.\nThe RCMP\nfailed. They tried... but the members of the Mafia that murdered my mother were\nfar more numerous than the Toronto Police, numbering tens of thousands -more\nthan anyone in the city ever dared to believe actually lived there, right under\ntheir very noses. And so my mother died, but was regarded as a hero to the city\nfor her bravery in turning over those she had been working for. They even built\na new school over one of the mob hideouts that were destroyed and named it\nafter her in her honor.\nI was proud of\nher... but my father was lost.\nHe was angry\nwith her; angry that she put herself, and -he convinced himself- her husband\nand only son, in harm's way like that. She should have simply quit and left,\nkeeping quiet and keeping the attention of the mob away from herself. I know in\nmy heart my father was also proud of her for what she did, but the grief in his\nown outweighed his pride. He took to drinking -he was not an angry drunk, but\nhe was a foolish one, spouting nonsense about the crime factions in the city in\nthe middle of his favorite pub.\nApparently\nthough this did not sit well with a member of the Yakuza who happened to be\nthere one night. He turned on my father, interpreting his words as a dishonor\nto his 'clan', and forced him out to the street and into an alley. I don't know\nwhat my father did after that... but I know what became of him; his head was rend\nfrom his shoulders by a katana the man had been carrying -a katana\nmisidentified as a kendo practice sword because of its black scabbard and\nhandle, followed by the lack of a hilt; to anyone it looked like an ordinary\npractice sword, but hidden inside was an old but efficient weapon.\nAnd in the\nspan of a year... I was an orphan at the age of fourteen.\nI was taken in\nby my aunt -my mother's sister, who raised me in Ottawa, far from the horrors I\nhad endured in Toronto. But I always intended to return eventually... I would not\nlet the syndicates that had taken my family continue to thrive in my city -my hometown... my country. Canada prides itself on being welcoming of other\ncultures, giving them a place far from the dangers of their own homeland, but\nthere are times even I feel we are too welcoming.\nAlthough\nCanada remains the country with one of the lowest crime rates on Earth, my\nwords prove that it still exists. But I would put an end to it -so help me, I\nwould end it.\nDuring my time\nliving with my aunt, I took up various practices. I enlisted in a martial arts\nschool, teaching Muai Thai -a powerful fighting art, known also as 'the art of\neight limbs' focusing on the use of every limb, every joint, as a weapon. A\nleader in the world of martial arts, designed for full-contact combat. I\npracticed this on the side during my years in High School, and continued to\npractice throughout my years in University, eventually reaching the rank of 'red\nsash' -the highest rank before the teacher level, with a specialty in the fist\nand elbow-strike techniques. Alongside this I was also taught Krabi-krabong; a\nsword-staff fighting art derived from Muai Thai.\nBut it was\nduring this time I also discovered I was gifted.\nIt happened\ncompletely by accident; I was running late for school having missed my bus, as\nI had twice that week; my teacher had warned me that if I was late one more\ntime it would affect my grade. I was so close to graduating with honors that I\ncould not afford to lose my straight-A grades in Mathematics! I pleaded to the\nheavens above thatI would arrive on time, and ran, and ran, and...\nSuddenly ran\nface-first into my locker.\nYes, laugh all\nyou want, but I unmistakably had been, merely seconds before, twenty blocks\nfrom my school; had I somehow forgotten the whole trip and miraculously arrived\non time? A glance at my watch resulted in the discarding of that theory; it had\nonly been a minute since I last looked at it -not even star athletes could run\nthat distance in sixty seconds, and I had even arrived before classes were\nabout to start! By my calculations, gauging the average stop-light time and the\nnumber of crosswalks between my previous...\n I guess you really don't care about the\nspecifics. But it should have taken me at least another half hour to make it to\nschool on foot, yet somehow I had spontaneously appeared right where I wanted\nto be; a place I knew and remembered well, able to picture it in my mind\nexactly the way it was. This haunted me all day -I nearly failed a pop quiz in\nmy history class because of my distraction. On the way home, I kept trying to\nmake it happen again; I tried to travel into a movie theater, but I'd never\nbeen inside of this one in particular -I had no idea what the inside was like.\nI tried\nseveral other locations, but it wasn't until I thought that I wanted to go home\nthat I very suddenly appeared there. Another look at my watch; it was exactly\nthe same time as just before I had appeared -merely two seconds had passed. As\nhard as it was to believe, I actually had the gift of Teleportation! \nSetting up a\ncamera in my room, and recording myself performing it, I found I actually\nseemingly vanished in a flash of light so instant -like the muzzle flash of a\ngunshot, being the closest comparison I could think of. Even in super slow\nmotion, I could not see more than a mere blink of light before I vanished and\nappeared elsewhere. I tested and tested, trying to find out... actually I no\nlonger know what I was trying to learn. But I quickly found out the effort\nexhausted me, and I collapsed onto my bed two hours before my usual bed time.\nMy aunt woke me for dinner an hour later, surprised as I was to find me asleep.\nI told my aunt\nwhat had happened -predictably, she didn't believe me, until I held her by the\nhand and teleported both of us down to the kitchen. She was so shocked, I\nthought she would run out the backdoor screaming profanity and Catholic curses,\nbelieving me some sort of devil-spawn. Luckily, she was not so jumpy, and\ninstead took the time to listen to my story again. How I gained this power, I\ndon't know.\nBut then I\nknew I could use this gift. I carried on through the years, practicing my new\nteleportation power alongside the Muai Thai lessons I signed up for. I honed my\nbody and mind, I went to University to study various accounts of Mathematics\nwhile simultaneously reaching red sash level in my chosen fighting art\n-needless to say I became a very calculative person. I even tested my combat\nskills in a Martial Arts tournament under an alias -which I will not reveal-\nand placed second.\nBy the time I\nwas twenty-five years old, I was a skilled Martial Artist and a master of\nMathematics. It was time for me to return home...\nAnd so, back\nto Toronto I went. I have a separate journal that lists all of the things I did\nfollowing that, but I will give you the short version here in this one.\nI began my\ncrusade against the mob; since more than a decade had passed after they were\nrun out of the city, they had moved back in and were starting up again. I\nlanded a job in the accounting firm I mentioned before, 'The Workplace'. Sure\nenough, I was in luck -perhaps it had been destined for me reach this job, but\nI found myself taking the very position my mother had once held, serving as an\naccountant for high-class entrepreneurs, or at least that was the title the\nmedia gave them. But I knew what they really were; I'd spent months learning\nthe dirty secrets of the mob presences in Toronto, and I learned who all of\ntheir higher-ups were. These high-class citizens I dealt with... they were the\nones.\nI began to\nfollow the money like a trail; I knew where their payments were going because I\nwas their bookkeeper. I knew who was being paid by these crime bosses. Judges,\na few crooked cops, street punks and gangsters alike; all of them, taking this\nblood money for their own selfish gain, I started with them. I tracked them\ndown, made them talk, and targeted the higher-ups. I didn't start small either;\nas soon as I knew who all of the bosses and Lieutenants were, I went straight\nfor them.\nThe Yakuza\nwere the hardest ones to deal with; their leaders all had Samurai-fetishes,\neach one trained in how to use a sword and with me only able to use my fists,\nit made contact with them extremely risky. A few sword cuts to my arms later, I\nmet someone; the young man who actually forged those very blades for those men,\nand I learned he actually wanted out of the Yakuza, but because of 'tradition',\nhe could not leave the 'clan' unless he was dead. Helping him stage his own\ndemise, he set up shop in an area I'd chosen to be my hideout -something else I\nwill not be revealing here, and he began to make tools for me.\nHe modified my\noutfit with titanium bracers and remade my leotard out of kevlar -with a silk\nundercoat that I must admit, was more comfortable than my old outfit, with no\nloss of flexibility. I was ready to take on the other Yakuza bosses. I was able\nto deflect their swords at no risk to myself, until I could land that critical\nblow, and small-arms fire was less of a threat to me now. With that, and my\nteleportation powers, I brought down all the Yakuza leaders and the Triads,\neven most of the Mafia families, before the rest fled underground.\nStill... in\ntwo years I had forced out some of the largest criminal groups in Toronto. By\nmy twenty-seventh birthday crime had dropped to a record low even for a\nCanadian city. But it would never last; desperate criminals lead to desperate\nmeasures, and soon my world started getting just a little stranger. So much so\nthat the police stopped hunting me out of fear of these new, unnatural beings\nthat had begun to emerge.\nMy mission was\nnot... no, my mission is not yet\nover.\nI am the\nprotector of Toronto, a Canadian Patriot, and I guess... a Superhero. I am the Nightmare\nof Foreign Crime; those who come to this country will not bring evil with them,\nand those who flee those countries to escape that evil will not be pursued by\nit. Canada is a peaceful, multicultural nation, and with my power I will keep\nat least this city that way.\nI am The Warp. "}
