Peace, not only\n\nthe absence of war.'\n\n\u0026nbsp; \u0026nbsp; \u0026nbsp; \u0026nbsp; \u0026nbsp; \u0026nbsp;But peace, like a poem,\n\nis not there ahead of itself,\n\ncan't be imagined before it is made,\n\ncan't be known except\n\nin the words of its making,\n\ngrammar of justice,\n\nsyntax of mutual aid.\n\n\u0026nbsp; \u0026nbsp; \u0026nbsp; \u0026nbsp; \u0026nbsp; \u0026nbsp; A feeling towards it,\n\ndimly sensing a rhythm, is all we have\n\nuntil we begin to utter its metaphors,\n\nlearning them as we speak.\n\n\u0026nbsp; \u0026nbsp; \u0026nbsp; \u0026nbsp; \u0026nbsp; \u0026nbsp;A line of peace might appear\n\nif we restructured the sentence our lives are making,\n\nrevoked its reaffirmation of profit and power,\n\nquestioned our needs, allowed\n\nlong pauses . . .\n\n\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;A cadence of peace might balance its weight\n\non that different fulcrum; peace, a presence,\n\nan energy field more intense than war,\n\nmight pulse then,\n\nstanza by stanza into the world,\n\neach act of living\n\none of its words, each word\n\na vibration of light--facets\n\nof the forming crystal.\n  \n  \n\n","series":{"name":"poetry","previous":"https://fse.anthro.fr/stories/891489-bloodshot.json","next":"https://fse.anthro.fr/stories/917769-best-friend.json"}}
