I jumped in the ocean  
And I opened up my eyes  
To see, a shadow of me  
Floating on by  
  
He said, in a hushed tone  
"Are you still alive?"  
"It's one thing to exist  
and another to survive."  
  
I knew from experience  
I knew I couldn't swim  
I stayed afloat regardless  
Maybe because of him  
  
The shadow of who I might have been  
With the dried up lips and reddened eyes  
The shadow of who I used to be  
With the paper mask and  
Mouth full of lies
