A Summer Day in 1989 Part 2

It's been five years since I was visited by the ghost of my deceased boyfriend Tim. He stopped me from killing myself and made me promise to keep on living. I have fulfilled this promise, but I still miss him greatly. I still dream about him almost every night. Most of them are good dreams, but occasionally I'll dream of his death. I've learned to control my dreams over these past five years. I can make my good dreams last longer and sometimes I can make them go in some...naughty directions, but I have trouble stopping myself from having a dream about his death. In this dream, I am forced to watch Tim get shot. The police told me that he had been walking home alone from work when a fight broke out between two cats over some girl and shots were fired and my boyfriend was caught in the crossfire. Both cats got arrested and sent to prison, but that doesn't make me feel any better because he's still gone. I've sometimes attempted to control the nightmare sometimes, to change the outcome, but I guess my power to control my own dreams isn't quite there yet. I spent some time hanging out with ghost hunters too. We spend our weekends looking for ghosts in old, abandoned places. We don't always find a ghost, but something about looking for them comforts me in a way.

Tonight, I came home from work and decided to do what I usually did on a weeknight since Tim's death: watch TV and fall asleep. I sat down on the couch and felt a lot of pressure and a little pain in my chest. It reminded me of the kind of feeling I get in my dreams. The one that reminds me that I am dreaming and that Tim was dead. I've never felt it in waking life before though. I assumed it would pass, so I just continued watching TV. The pain and the pressure only grew worse and worse and soon I found myself clutching at my chest in agony. What was happening to me?! I writhed in agony for a few minutes before I lost consciousness. When I regained consciousness, I felt like something was off. I was still on the couch, but not on the same part of the couch and I felt very light. I looked around and then I saw a body to my right. It was my body, exactly where I knew I was only I looked like I was in a frozen state. My hands were still clutching my chest and my eyes were wide open. I walked, though it felt more like floating, over to my body and checked for vital signs. I wasn't breathing and my heart wasn't beating.

"I'm dead", I said out loud. Was I ghost? Was this an out-of-body experience? I tried to lay down into my body, mimicking the position I had left it in, but it was no use. I couldn't return to my body. I guess I really was dead. Then I heard a knock on my door.

"Who is it", I said.

"It's me honey", a familiar voice said.

"Tim?!", I said. I couldn't believe I was hearing his voice again.

"Yep it's me. I've come to take you to the afterlife", he said.

I gasped. Was this really happening? I opened the door and there he was, my handsome Tim. I ran up to him and gave him a huge hug and said, "I've missed you so much."

"I've missed you too honey. I'm glad you kept your promise and didn't kill yourself, but I can't help but be sad that you're dead too", he said, with a mournful expression on his face.

"I know and I'm still sad that you're dead, but there's a silver lining to all this. We're finally reunited", I said.

"That's true", he said. He kissed me on the muzzle and then a wooden door appeared.

"That's the gateway to the afterlife", he said. We held paws and walked through the door together.

When we got to the other side we were in a living room with a green couch, an old TV and a silver boombox..

"This is my house. Everyone gets one in the afterlife", he said.

"Cool", I said. Tim then turned on the boombox and pressed play on the tape deck. The song that played was "Heaven" by Warrant.

"How fitting", I said.

"This is our song, remember?", Tim said.

"Of course I do", I said.

I then laid down on the couch and asked, "Wanna cuddle? I've been waiting so long to do that with you again."

"Sure thing handsome foxy", he said. We then cuddled together on the couch. This is going to be a great eternity.

The End
