#2 of Po-eems

This poem I had sent to several competitions and such, and in all instances had been rejected due to its bleakness. Whatever, man. Pink slips make good kindling.

In Misty Pools Way Down Below

Rose-fingered dawn falls on earthly shadows
Darkness slinks away to its lightless home
Where liquid things spit and twist
Where fungal minds cast fungal glow
In misty pools way down below

Lights unseen prowl and lurk in ancient corners
The planet turns and turns on the turntable needle
Though time passes, not so in seething underground
Sounds, unheard, not unlike the crow
In misty pools way down below

Formless gods and shapeless servitors
Do writhe in expectant paranoia
Shifting the earth, the cathedral of nightmares
Inhuman mind, incorporeal, slow
In misty pools way down below

Where wingless shapes whirl and fly
In a poison atmosphere that serves as sky
Where only darkness comes to birth and die
Where the tides of life and death do ebb and flow
In misty pools way down below

Reflected moons reflecting eyes
Mirror worlds tumbling through mirror planes
God and Goddess, existence and nothingness
All is one here in the undertow
In misty pools way down below

Fungal claws grasp and grate, pulsate, shake
Stretching relentlessly to the diamonds of Nharoketh
Spiritual shapes, potentiality into manifestation
Hideous schemes and thoughts do themselves grow
In misty pools way down below

Astral energy flows within, shimmering power
Spirits caught, energy devoured
Gods like vultures descend from cadaverous islands
Into the water that is not water, with poison breath blow
In misty pools way down below

Reptile and mammal, mineral and vegetable
Unknown identity, genderless, meaningless
They stew with non-terrestrial flesh that is not flesh
To these forbidden, hidden worlds do we soon all go
In misty pools way down below
