A high pressure low paying job, friends in bad places and a home less than it should be.
The setting is owned by TicklefishMcGee
The characters used are mine.
Dienza was livid as he took to the path in a brisk walk. He wanted to run, he wanted to burst
screaming into Aryan's house and ram his knife handle deep through the mutt's ribcage. But he
couldn't. There was no way Aryan would be there alone, and chances are he'd have weapons of his
own. Maybe even guns.
The walk had turned into a jog, but it had given him time to calm his mind and begin to rationalize
what he was doing. He was walking towards a known drug dealer's house with the full preparedness
to murder him. And that wasn't good. No, he couldn't.
The leona slowed down and took a few deep breaths. Then he stopped. What the friggin hell was
he thinking? There was no sane way he could walk in on Aryan brandishing a knife and expect to
walk away. No, he hated the admission of weakness but he'd have to do this diplomatically and hope
for the best. Aryan had been an old friend for most of their school years, and that could work in
Dienza's favour. But the mutt was also running with an older, more ruthless crowd and that meant
things could get dangerous at the drop of a hat.
He started to walk again at the same pace as before. His mind was racing almost as fast as his
heartbeat and all he could think about was Spiika.

The door was old wood on half rusted hinges, fixed to a house that looked equally decrepit. This
was the last block before the small suburb they called home lead into a larger section of the city, and
taller apartment buildings lined the next few streets. It was a prime location for a drug lab, close to
an industrial sector and a slew of apartments to move product in an emergency. Dienza had never
once seen the police take notice of the place.
He sighed in trepidation and knocked on the door. A few moments passed before the door
opened slightly. A large black furred mutt stared at him through the gap.
'Can I help you, runt?' He growled.
'I'm a friend of Aryan.' Dienza replied.
'You carrying?' The mutt demanded. Dienza sighed and lifted the knife by the blade in a non-
threatening position.
'Heh.' The mutt smirked, opening the door and taking the weapon from the leona's grip. 'You get
it back when you leave. Come in and keep quiet. Aryan's in the back room with another friend of
his.'
'Is it Spiika?' Dienza asked, stepping inside as the mutt ushered him in.
'Fucked if I know.' The mutt shrugged, closing the door and pointing down the hall. 'A yellow
mouser with a firetop. I didn't ask her name.'
Dienza ignored the slur and walked down the hall. One of the doors on the way to the back room
was closed, muffling the sounds of an obvious sexual encounter taking place before he reached the
door at the end and knocked again. Footsteps sounded and the door opened slowly, revealing a grey
furred mutt slightly taller than Dienza.
'Drac?' Aryan's eyes widened and he did a double take before a slow smile reached his lips. 'Shit
man, I have not seen you for some time. How've you been?'
'Spiika.' Dienza growled. 'Where is she?'
The smile faded from Aryan's face and he ushered the leona inside. Dienza's gaze immediately
came to rest on Spiika's prone form draped over the couch. She was passed out and snoring lightly
on her back, her head tilted to one side with a puddle of drool trickling onto the cushion beneath her
head.
'What the hell Aryan?' Dienza exclaimed, rushing over and kneeling beside her on the couch. 'She
was trying to get clean, why would you do this?'
'She never told me.' Aryan shrugged. 'I just thought she was low on cash. Usually she's here every
second or third day.'
'I didn't realize she was paying for it.' Dienza muttered.
'Well...' Aryan looked like he wanted to smile but suppressed it. 'She does... earn discounts for
herself. If you catch my-'
'Shut up.' The leona interrupted him. 'How much did she take?'
'Not as much as usual.' Aryan sighed. 'I was surprised, I guess she does wanna quit. She just got
sleepy because she stuffed herself after a case of the munchies, you know? Almost fixed our micen
problem on her own.' He pointed to a section of wall that had been damaged, the plaster punched
through and the ruins of a small micen colony fully exposed.
'I'm taking her home.' Dienza stated. 'I want you to do me a favour, alright?'
'I'll... I'll talk to her about it.' Aryan replied. 'But the guys don't like it if I turn away a paying client.
It kind of... inhibits business you know?' Dienza ignored him and leaned in close to Spiika's face. He
rested a hand on her cheek. After a few minutes he got up, lifting her into a sitting position and
taking a spot on the couch beside her.
'Draaa...?' She murmured slowly. 'Whazza... What you...?'
'You idiot.' Dienza whispered. 'Why'd you do this? I thought you were doing so well?'
'I...' She tried to say something, but as soon as she attempted to lift her head she passed out once
more.
'Drac.' Aryan called. 'Pick her up. I'll drive you home.'

Dienza carefully lifted Spiika's dazed form out of Aryan's car and helped her to stand. She'd
woken on the way over but still struggled to stand. After she almost fell over, he lifted her in his
arms like a cradled child and carried her back towards the house. The door swung open and Nereen
stepped out in a rush.
'Are you okay?' She called, a distraught look in her eyes as she rushed to wrap her arms around
him. Her gaze fell on Spiika in his arms and her jaw dropped. 'Is she...?'
'I'm fine.' Dienza replied. 'And she will be... I hope.' He turned backwards and shot a glance at
Aryan. The mutt tried to give an apologetic look to his leona friend but Dienza had no interest in
reciprocating the gesture and simply walked inside. Nereen came inside moments later and closed
the door behind her. She followed Dienza into his room and stood beside him as he set Spiika on the
bed.
'Dienza?' Nereen asked. 'Is everything okay?'
'She's out of it.' He replied. 'She's taken... umm.'
     'Nip?' Nereen asked.
'...Yes.' Dienza nodded sadly. 'She got hooked on the stuff. She's been trying to get off it. At least
she says she has but bastards like Aryan make it hard for her. I thought she was doing well.'
'I'm sorry.' Nereen said. 'If you want, I can look after her. She might be better off missing a few
days of work.'
'I already talked to the boss.' He answered. 'I'm taking tomorrow off as well, and if I need more
time he's willing to talk, depending on how she goes.'
'Alright.' Nereen said. 'Just remember to look after yourself as well.' The irony of these words
coming from her of all people was not lost on Dienza, and he nodded a simple reply.

It was a few more hours before Spiika woke up with any measure of focus, leading Dienza to
believe that Aryan had been full of shit when he said she'd had less than before. Or if he was telling
the truth, then how much had she been taking before?
'D-Drac?' She murmured. 'Oh gods... What did I do?'
'Apparently, less nip than you'd been doing before.' Dienza replied dryly. 'Spiika, you... friggin
idiot.' He leaned over and hugged her tight, feeling her arms lift weakly to return the hug. Her body
started to tremble slightly, causing Dienza to lift his head slightly in concern. She was... crying.
'Drac... I'm so sorry.' She managed between sobbing breaths. 'I didn't want to, I wanted to stay
clean for you but I couldn't. I just couldn't keep going!'
'Shhh.' Dienza held her tighter and gave her cheek a kiss, leaving him with a taste he tried not to
identify or think about. 'Spiika... I still love you. But you need more help than I can give you. I want
you to do something for me.'
'Anything.' She whispered, fighting back more tears.
'Come with me tomorrow, to the medical centre near the mall.' He continued. 'We'll see a doctor
and find out if we can sign you up for rehabilitation.' Her breath caught. He let go of her embrace
and sat back up, staring back down at her.
'I... Alright. Yes.' She nodded softly.
'Good.' Dienza sighed with a smile. 'Now get some sleep. I'll wake you up for dinner, alright?'
'But I'm dirty...' She muttered, sitting herself up. 'And my stomach feels horrible.'
'Aryan said you solved their micen problem.' Dienza shrugged. 'I guess you just had a big lunch.
Don't worry about it. You'll feel better after you sleep.'
'Okay.' She closed her eyes and laid herself back down. 'Dienza... Thank you.'

A few more hours had passed, and the low sound of Dienza playing soft melodies on his guitar on
the back patio was almost all that was heard through the house. There was also an occasional
lecture by Nereen towards the young micen she'd caught trying to steal her breakfast that morning.
Dienza wasn't as interested this time around, if his mother wanted to punish micen by forcing them
to spend the day with her, then that was her call.
He stopped playing, having drafted a few useable melodies in his head that he'd have to
remember for later. But Nereen had walked back into the kitchen and was starting to organize a pan
on the stove and a trio of lamb cuts to go on it. At the same time she readied a pot of vegetables, a
pot of gravy and slid a few slices of bread into the toaster. Every few seconds she would scold the
micen for some misbehaviour, but the runt would keep on aggravating her.
Dienza stepped back inside and took a look. It seemed Nereen had found herself a juvenile male
micen to keep captive for a while, but she was giving him as much trouble as a leona boy would,
curious and fearless of the harsh world around him. Dienza smiled, he had been much the same at a
young age before growing up and realizing how bad his life would actually be. This little orange and
white furred micen seemed utterly oblivious to the fact that he could easily fit inside the stomach of
the woman he kept on hassling.
'Sounds like you're being too soft on this one.' He remarked.
'Oh, he just won't listen to me.' Nereen sighed, scooping the boy up before he could start
climbing on the stove. She didn't set the boy on her head as she had with Teo, instead pulling a glass
from the cabinet and dropping him inside. He pressed himself to the side of the glass, a big childish
grin on his face and made an unsuccessful attempt to jump and pull himself out.
'Eat him. That'll solve the problem.' Dienza shrugged, giggling slightly as his mother's disapproving
stare. 'I'm gonna wake Spiika up so she can get herself a shower.'

A short while later, Dienza and Spiika returned to the kitchen as Nereen was setting the table. As
the leonas took their seats, Spiika met Nereen's gaze and gave a small smile.
'I wanna say how sorry I am.' She began. 'I've been... a mess lately. And you've let me stay even
after all the problems I've brought on myself. I never wanted to be a burden, so...'
'Spiika, you don't have to worry.' Nereen assured her. 'I've known you ever since the two of you
were little children, playing together in the backyard and that park near the school. Whatever
problems you might have had recently, I've known you long enough to know you're a good person.'
'Thank you.' Spiika bowed her head and took a deep breath. 'And thank you for this... fantastic
dinner.' She lifted a forkful of tender lamb meat dripping with gravy and bit into it hungrily. Nereen
and Dienza followed suit, all three of them thankful for a moment of simple bliss after the ordeal of
earlier in the day.
The sound of breaking glass caught their attention immediately and Nereen instantly rose to her
feet. 'Oh you little bastard!' She walked around the counter and looked down onto the floor, the
juvenile micen lay there amid a pile of smashed glass after he had managed to topple it over.
Without water, it had not been heavy enough to arrest his movement. 'It's a miracle you're not cut
to pieces by all this!'
'Is that the same little guy from before?' Dienza asked in amusement.
'Yes.' Nereen sighed, sitting back down and setting the boy in the table beside her plate.
Immediately he stuck his hand into the gravy and pulled it out, licking the ooze from between his
fingers while Nereen glared down at him, her hands clenching her utensils.
'Hey kid, come here.' Spiika said in a playful tone, leaning down so her head was close to the
table. The micen boy giggled and ran over to her, standing like a kid about to get a present. Instead
the leona licked him slowly. Dienza and Nereen's eyes widened, watching as the youth's legs
wobbled slightly and he moaned in what was almost definitely pleasure.
'Oh...' Nereen sighed, rolling her eyes. 'Not it all makes sense. The little tyke is a willing one. No
wonder nobody came looking for him. Poor little guy.'
'What poor little guy?' Dienza laughed. 'He's gonna get exactly what he wants, right?' Spiika
grinned as she watched the boy look up at her, the expression on his face was sheer adoration. 'And
if not that, at least you know how to reward him now. Which means he'll be easier to punish.'
'Hmm.' Nereen lifted another piece of meat to her lips and bit down on it, chewing slowly as she
thought. The micen had turned around and now came back to her side of the table, staring up at her
hopefully now that they all knew.
Dienza watched, curious and intrigued at how his mother would handle this. She'd not eaten a
micen in years, but a willing one? Surely she at least missed the taste. He fixed his gaze on her as she
slowly lowered her fork to where the boy was standing. The micen climbed atop it eagerly and his
gaze was fixated upon the woman's lips.
Nereen stared back at the tiny body in front of her, clearly conflicted. She swallowed her
mouthful and took a deep breath. Then the fork approached her mouth, micen and all as her lips
parted.
