#10 of Drac

A story about a young leona (cat anthro) named Dienza, or Drac to his friends.
Life is not easy. A high pressure low paying job, friends in bad places and a home less than it should be.
The setting is owned by TicklefishMcGee

Dienza woke to a stiff back pain and a numb arm. As his eyes slowly opened he came to recognize
the living room and his own position slumped against the couch. Sleeping like this had been an
incredibly stupid idea. He grunted and he sat up a little more and found himself looking into Spiika's
still sleeping face. Well, waking up to that made the pain in his back seem not so bad.
He grunted again as he stood and walked into the kitchen before stretching. The clock on the
microwave told him it was a little after eight in the morning. It was unusual for him to sleep so late
on a weekday. As he flicked the kettle on to make a coffee or two the events of the previous night
came back to his mind. Aryan wanted to see him later on, but before that he had to go with Spiika
and make sure she checked into the medical centre for rehab sessions.
He walked back into the living room while the kettle was boiling and slowly sat on the couch
before laying himself down on top of Spiika again. She moaned and stirred slowly before opening her
eyes to see Dienza's staring back at her.
'Morning.' He chirped before planting a kiss on her lips. She blushed and returned the gesture
before giggling and wrapping her arms around him, still underneath the blankets.
'Heey.' She answered. 'Did you do this?'
'Yes.' He nodded. 'You were shivering and turning blue. Want a coffee?'
'I would... love one.' She sighed. As Dienza stood back up and headed back to the kitchen, Spiika
rose slowly and rolled the blankets onto the end of the couch before following him. Dienza had just
poured the two cups when he froze suddenly. A smile creased his lips and his tail suddenly slapped
the counter top beside the toaster. A micen made a dash from his now exposed hiding place only to
be snagged by another swipe of the leona's tail before it curled around him and held him fast.
'Little runts are still around.' Dienza remarked, lifting his tail and dropping the small form into his
free hand. It was one of the juveniles left from the colony earlier, what he was doing in the open
now was anyone's guess. Maybe because of the time he had assumed the leonas were all out.
'Poor little guy.' Spiika said. 'He screwed up.' She lifted her cup and took a long slow sip, then
sighed happily. 'Oh this coffee is like liquid heaven...'
'Eh.' Dienza shrugged. 'We should probably just worry about getting you over to the medical
block. I'll let Ma figure him out. She loves the little mouse kids.' He grinned before taking a sip of his
own coffee and dropped the micen into the sink. He'd be trapped there until someone helped him
out.

Nereen blinked herself awake and rolled over. Nate was still there, curled up on the pillow where
she had left him. He was asleep, but shivering. In a moment of clarity she realized the poor kid
probably hadn't moved from that spot out of fear after what she'd said, and had been out in the
open for the duration of the cold night. Well now she just felt bad. Her clock read nine thirty, it had
been a long night for him.
She reached over and rested her palm over top of him for a few minutes. Eventually he settled
down and stopped shivering. She gently scooped him up and rose out of bed, setting him down on
her pillow where it was still warm. She made her bathroom run quickly before returning and pulling
on a set of pants and a simple shirt. She wasn't sure what she'd be doing with herself today.
Nate had woken up by now, but was still enjoying his warm spot on the bed, curled up and staring
back at her with a big smile on his face. She smiled back and leaned down close.
'How you doing little guy?' She asked, nudging him softly before giving him a quick kiss on top of
his head.
'I was cold all night, but I stayed where you said.' He replied. 'Can we play?' His endearing little
expression just tugged at her and she scooped him into her hand.
'Let's have breakfast, then we'll play.' She replied, setting him on top of her head and heading
towards the kitchen. Two cups were on the counter where Dienza and Spiika had made coffee. She
fired up the stove and set a pan on top of it, turning to face the fridge before a small whimper
caught her attention. She approached the source of the sound, the sink she believed and peered
inside.
'Ahh!' The juvenile micen in the bottom of the sink looked up in fear. 'Don't hurt me please! T-the
other one, he dropped me in here!'
Nereen sighed. 'Dienza, you dick...' She reached inside and lifted the young boy back onto the
counter and watched as he bolted for the wall and disappeared into a hole. 'And... not even a thank
you.' She turned back to the fridge and pulled out the carton of eggs. Two left, that would be plenty.
There was hardly any bacon left though, so she emptied the packet into the pan and listened to the
first few satisfying moments of sizzling.
'How come you cook it?' Nate asked, leaning down precariously.
'So it tastes better.' She replied. She nudged him backwards with one hand so he wouldn't fall
before cracking the eggs into the pan with her other. She watched them slowly simmering and felt
Nate crawling around in her hair before he leaned back over her brow and looked into her left eye.
'Would I taste better?' He asked.
'Little micen are sweet enough as they are.' She replied with a grin, pushing him back to the top
of her head again. 'Now be careful or you'll fall.' After a few more minutes passed, the meal was
cooked enough to eat and she transferred it to a plate before taking a seat at the table. She set Nate
down at the table and deliberately waited a few minutes, eating for herself before taking notice of
him on order to test his patience.
To her pleasant surprise, he kept to himself, sitting still and watching her patiently. When she was
satisfied he'd learned to behave, she cut off a small piece of bacon and a small piece of egg and
shifted them to the edge of the plate for him. He even looked at her and waited for her nod before
taking them. When they were both finished a few minutes later, she sighed happily and rested her
elbow on the table, pushing the plate aside and looking down at the micen in front of her.
'C-can we play now?' He asked, taking a nervous step forward.
'Okay.' The leona smiled at the boy's enthusiasm and leaned down closer to the table. She crept
her free hand towards him and stalked him over the table surface. He reacted in a mix of play fear
and excitement, dashing towards her hand before suddenly spinning and bolting away. He tried to
cross the table but her hand snagged him by the tail and dragged him back towards her.
'Ahhh! Help!' He squeaked in trepidation and exhilaration both. Nereen giggled as she lifted him
into the air. He dangled upside down and grinned back at her. 'Uh oh... The big leona got mee!'
'I got you.' She repeated. 'Yummy little mouse.' She lifted his squirming body a little higher before
bringing him close to her lips. He squirmed and giggled as she ran her tongue over his body. She
made a show of licking her lips after, then opened her maw and lowered him inside. She felt his tiny
form squirming and trying to push against the roof of her mouth but he wasn't strong enough.
'Lemme out!' He squeaked, his voice muffled by her cheeks. She responded by pressing him
between her teeth and into her cheek, making him squirm uselessly before she slurped him back
onto her tongue.
Her mouth was filling with drool filled with the micen's sweet flavour. She pinned him in place
and swallowed carefully, hearing him gasp as she relaxed and let her jaw hang a bit lower. It hadn't
occurred to her that playing with him this way would put a burden on his breathing. She should
probably let him out now...
'That was great!' He exclaimed, poking his head out briefly before grabbing her lower fangs and
trying to pull her mouth closed. 'Do it again!'
She sighed, making him giggle in the wash of warm air. Perhaps a little longer then...

Dienza watched the clouds rolling past, thick and grey in typical London fashion. He'd been here
for about twenty minutes now, and it was about five minutes past eleven. He sighed, wondering if
Aryan would even show up. Another ten minutes rolled by before the familiar blue sedan rolled past,
pulling into one of the empty parking spaces on the road a little ahead.
He stood off the wall of the music shop he'd been leaning against and walked towards the car as
the mutt stood from the driver side and walked around. There was a tentative handshake before
Aryan spoke.
'How's she doing, Drac?' The concern in his voice sounded genuine, but at the same time Dienza
couldn't be sure.
'She's in rehab.' Dienza replied simply. 'We checked her in this morning, spent a couple hours
filling out forms, now she's with a doctor to determine how much treatment she'll need. So I don't
have much time, I need to be back there in about ten minutes.'
'Well that's good.' Aryan nodded. 'I felt that I should apologize to you for letting this all get out of
hand in the first place. I thought you two were over. And then-'
'What does that have to do with anything?' Dienza hissed. 'You're a friggin drug peddler!'
'...Well, yea.' The mutt drooped his head sheepishly. 'Look, I know I've pretty much fucked up
every choice I made since we left school, but that doesn't mean I don't care about old friends. I still
think about all the things we used to do, all the plans we used to make.'
'You were gonna be my bassist.' Dienza replied, sighing a little and smiling despite the situation. 'I
remember those days... Aryan, what happened?'
'You landed a job straight out of school.' Aryan replied, almost sounding resentful. 'I applied in
more places than I can remember and got nothing. Two years of nothing makes a guy pretty
desperate, alright? Dad was putting the pressure on. Gave me a month to land a job or get out, so... '
'So you turned to drugs.' Dienza concluded. 'Who's the jerk you're splitting rent with?'
'My... boss, technically.' Aryan answered. 'He showed me everything. I think I'll do you a favour
and not tell you his name. But listen, he's not gonna be happy if one of the regulars suddenly stops
showing up. And while I wish Spiika the best of luck, I also wanted to let you know that the two of
you need to be careful. You mess with a dealer's income, they tend to feel entitled to compensation,
you know?'
'So, do I need to warn Ma that our house might get shot up?' Dienza asked.
'Nah, he doesn't even know your name, much less where you live.' Aryan shrugged. 'If you asked
for me, he'd have just thought you were a client. But when Spiika stops showing up, he might get a
little suspicious.'
'So I should keep away from that area.' The leona nodded.
'Yea.' The mutt nodded too. 'Wouldn't be a bad idea to dye your hair or something, change your
wardrobe a little. Something to make you harder to recognize at a glance. You still work at that
engineering warehouse right?'
'Right.' Dienza nodded. 'Hey... are you gonna get in any trouble for this?'
'I doubt it.' Aryan grinned. 'Clients come and clients go, we're never happy to lose someone but if
they make the choice there's only so much we can do without risking legal trouble. Our ring isn't as
big as the ones you find deeper in the city. Just don't let it become too common knowledge that you
pulled Spiika out, and I won't tell anyone that I knew about it.'
'You can't... get out, can you?' Dienza asked suddenly.
Aryan was silent for a full ten seconds before he lifted a hand and pressed it to his neck. There
were no words spoken but Dienza understood. The leona checked his phone. He should get going.
'Need to go?' Aryan asked. Dienza nodded, and the mutt nodded back with a half formed smile. 'I
wanna say again I'm sorry for all this. I'll... I'll drop by your house later tonight and bring back the
knife you lost. And... You can have my bass gear too. I don't think it's gonna help me anymore.'
'Are you sure about that?' Dienza was shocked.
'Yea, absolutely.' Aryan nodded. 'Dienza, I screwed up. But I wanna see you succeed okay? You
get yourself to the top, just like we dreamed. And you take Spiika with you. I'll be listening to your
music the whole time.'
Dienza kept silent, only able to manage a small nod. Aryan stepped away and gave him only a
sparse backwards glance before he returned to his car. The leona felt an uncomfortable lump in his
throat, like someone he knew had just gone from his life. He had considered Aryan gone for a few
years now, but to hear the actual goodbye just made it all the more real.
He'd make sure Spiika wasn't lost this way too.
