One Dramatic Exit Too Many

Chapter 55

Yeneneshe knew Zeinara and Kayya were having sex. She lay in bed with Ettoras, who was holding her as he slept, and she could hear the females across the hall, panting and moaning, lips smacking as they sucked nipples and licked fur. The mattress was even groaning, and Yeneneshe had to wonder what in the world the two could be doing. She was suddenly very grateful she had been sent to share a room with the three males: Florian, Shakir, and Ettoras dropped right off, they were so tired. Shakir had a snoring problem that was keeping Yeneneshe awake. Florian, meanwhile, took off his boots to air his foul feet, and the smell was enough to kill any mood there might have been between Yeneneshe and Ettoras.

Yeneneshe couldn't decide if she was jealous of Zeinara and Kayya or if she was grateful they had fallen in love. At first she was annoyed by their flirting and kissy faces. Now she was glad, because if Kayya loved Zeinara, then it meant Ettoras could be hers. And yet . . . she was still really annoyed. The two females made it look so easy, falling in love. They would argue and drift apart, but they always came back to each other. And they were fearless. They reveled in their love for each other, without hesitating, without pausing, they would kiss and touch and laugh! Yeneneshe wanted such intimacy with Ettoras, and she hated that Hawkeye had been right. She wanted Ettoras to touch her and kiss her. She wanted Ettoras inside her and blushed with shame just thinking about it. She felt guilty for wanting him because he wasn't even of her world, did not understand her kin or their ways, and was so very young and naive. But want him, she did. And it was incredibly frustrating that the moment Ettoras finally decided he wanted to sleep with her was the moment they'd had bars between them. Now that she was here, wrapped in the warmth of his arms, wrapped in the sweet smell of his golden wings, he was . . . asleep.

Yeneneshe was frustrated, but she was also sort of relieved that Ettoras was sleeping. He seemed to want to talk to her about her brother. Everyone wanted to talk her about Nkwe. But that was none of their business. At this point, she wanted to tell Nkwe he was no brother of hers!

Yeneneshe made a move to get up and froze when Ettoras moaned, his hot breath ruffling her fur. "Where you goin'?" he muttered. His eyes were closed and he reached blindly, trying to hold her tighter. His big paw landed clap on her breast and she blushed and shoved it off.

"Ettoras!" Yeneneshe whispered. "Let me go! I have to pee!"

Ettoras' big paw smoothed down to Yeneneshe's sex, and her lashes fluttered when he fingered her through her dress. "Mm . . . pee on my fingers . . ."

"Ettoras!" Yeneneshe sputtered. "Cut it out!"

Ettoras was sleeping and didn't seem aware that he was really groping her: he thought it was a dream. He smacked his lips. "You're so pretty . . . lemme touch your pussy . . ." he muttered. His fingers inched up her dress and slipped between her thighs, which she rubbed together to shut him out. "It felt so good in your ass . . ." His paw found her soft cheek and squeezed it hard.

Yeneneshe gasped at his groping. His paw found her breast again and was cupping and squeezing it until the nipple poked through the fabric. He kept fingering her gently, carefully, and her lashes fluttered as the lips of her sex became swollen with arousal. Suddenly frantic, she slapped his paws off, and blushing to her hairline, she scrambled from the bed and slipped into the hall, her body burning from his touch.

Yeneneshe stood in the dark a long time, shaken by her own arousal, and wondered why she was afraid. She just kept thinking of how it hurt when he was under her tail, and she didn't want to feel that pain ever again. Ettoras was enormous. There was no way it wouldn't hurt when he was finally inside her sex. With females there was usually blood and pain the first time. But Yeneneshe couldn't be certain if blood and pain happened to all females or just some. Her eyes grew sad as she realized she'd never had a female to ask. She hugged herself and missed Hawkeye and wondered how could she miss someone she had known all of two seconds. And yet, she had spent her life craving a mother's warm affection, craving a mother's caring and concern, missing her own mother, missing Mogethis. For one moment in time, Hawkeye had given her what she craved. And now that Hawkeye was dead and Asres and Gallus were so far away, she felt alone. All over again. Even having Nkwe there made her feel more alone. His presence was a constant reminder that her own siblings had given up on her, had left her in Wychowl to her fate.

Yeneneshe peered down the hall. The house was silent now but for the crackle of the blue fire on the hearth. Zeinara and Kayya had stopped moaning, and when Yeneneshe peeked into their room, she saw them sleeping together on one bed while Pili slept alone on the other. Yeneneshe shook her head and moved on. After all the protesting Zeinara had done about being able to resist having sex. . . .

Yeneneshe was almost to the living room when she heard voices and stopped. She forgot that Nkwe and Palesa would have been on watch. They were supposed to be outside, but they were sitting in the kitchen . . . talking. What could those two have to talk about? Yeneneshe slipped into the living room, careful not to wake Azrian and Motsumi, who were sleeping on the couches. She sat on the floor where Nkwe and Palesa couldn't see her and leaned her back against the couch on which Azrian slept soundly.

Yeneneshe paused to smile at Azrian. The Second Light was as beautiful as ever. In fact, she hadn't changed a day. Yeneneshe touched Azrian's long red mane and her eyes softened. Even Azrian had done more to help her than Nkwe!

". . . don't look at me, whore," Nkwe was saying irritably. "I should kill you where you stand."

Yeneneshe's lips curled in a small, grudging smile. Nkwe hadn't changed at day either. She remembered he was always grim and irritable, the brooding brother who sometimes watched as Mogethis rocked her and sang to her.

"Why so salty?" purred Palesa and laughed. "I didn't bite your paw."

"No," Nkwe said, and Yeneneshe thought he sounded breathless and pained. "But you let the damned thing bite me!"

"Yes," confirmed Palesa, sounding very proud of herself. "I did."

Nkwe moaned. "Shut up and go back outside. More of the things could be coming."

"Why?" laughed Palesa. "Afraid they'll try to fuck you again? It was a delicious sight, watching as that big one picked you up and sucked your dick."

"You watched for five minutes and did nothing!" Nkwe snapped. "If one of the things grabs you, expect me to do the same."

"I was surrounded by _two_of them. Forgive me if I didn't drop everything to come to your rescue. Besides, there's nothing to worry about. They come during the high moon," Palesa said tiredly. "It's almost dawn: no more will come. Or maybe you just don't want me to see you get fucked in the mouth. Aww. And here I thought you were saving the bravado for Pi --"

Dishes clattered that silenced Palesa, and Nkwe growled in a low voice, "Shut up about Pili."

There was a pause, and Yeneneshe tried to imagine what the two were doing. Creatures had attacked the house. What sort of creatures? And why did no one hear it?

"Here," Palesa said softly. "Let me wrap that, mi gilana."

Nkwe hissed. "Don't _call_me that - ouch!"

"For the sake of the gods, let me!" Palesa snapped. "Give me your paw, you big baby --"

"Ouch! Let go! P-Palesa . . . Mmpfh."

"There," Palesa whispered soothingly. "Doesn't that feel better?"

There was silence, and Yeneneshe didn't like the subtle flirt that had been in Palesa's voice. She heard pacing and knew one of them was walking around the kitchen.

"I'm surprised, Nkwe," Palesa said eventually.

"Oh? What else is new?" Nkwe answered sarcastically.

Palesa laughed softly. "Still got that stick up your ass. Of course, a female put it there. That's the way you like it --"

"Is that what you're surprised about?" Nkwe snorted. "I never said you were smart, gilana."

Yeneneshe's ears pricked forward to hear the endearment again. Among the foxes, mi gilana was an endearment shared between lovers. It meant "my treasure" or "treasure of my heart." Yeneneshe had mostly heard it spoken between married couples, but lovers used it on occasion. It left a bitter taste in her mouth to realize that Nkwe had been lovers with Palesa. Lovers with that cow! Perhaps it had happened when he was young and stupid. She didn't want to believe it was true.

"I'm surprised," said Palesa, sounding very satisfied, "that you've taken a dog for your lover. You always said you despised them, that you would die first."

"Pili is . . . different," Nkwe said sheepishly.

Palesa laughed. "How is she different? I'd say she was the same as any other dog. She despises and distrusts our kind, she hates our religion and spits on our gods, and if what I've seen in her mind is true, she once despised you. Perhaps she still does."

"You stay out of her mind."

"I can't help but hear her, and trust me, I don't want to. She thinks of you constantly. It's making me . . . sick."

Nkwe laughed. "Good. I was beginning to think you were beyond emotion."

"Pft. That's rich coming from you."

"Is it?" Nkwe said angrily. "You stole my clothing and left me naked and stabbed in the middle of the forest!"

Palesa laughed like a girl. "That was good, wasn't it?"

"Ugh. And even now you continue to laugh about it!" Nkwe cried, though Yeneneshe could hear the grudging laughter in his voice.

"Come now, Nkwe. Admit it . . . you're still in love with me," Palesa purred.

"No," Nkwe said. "I never loved you! We were young and we had fun. It couldn't be anything more --"

"Because your mother would have killed you if you brought home a Guide."

"That too."

"And your sister would have killed me for deflowering you_._"

"Do not speak of my sister - either of them," Nkwe warned, and Yeneneshe's face darkened. "It is none of your business."

"If I see Mogethis again," Palesa said in a low voice, "I will kill her, Nkwe."

"And I will kill you."

". . . that wouldn't be so b-bad," Palesa said in a tiny voice that cracked.

There was silence as Palesa sniffled, and Yeneneshe heard soft movements. Unable to stand it any longer, she peered around the edge of the couch and scowled at what she saw. Palesa was sitting in her brother's lap at the kitchen table. She was crying, and Nkwe watched her sadly. He brushed her tear away with his thumb and kissed her softly on the lips. He was hastily pulling back when she grabbed his coat, and with sudden abandon, she yanked him close and kissed him passionately. Their heads twisted through the kiss and they moaned, then Nkwe's bandaged paw was pushing the strap of Palesa's dress down, and one of her high, firm breasts pushed free of the fabric, jiggling softly. Nkwe caressed her breast in silent reverence, then leaned down and suckled it. Her lashes fluttered and she cradled his head as he gently moved his face against her cleavage, suckling her hard nipple with soft smacking. Palesa looked up in a daze of pleasure, and she froze when she saw Yeneneshe's furious eyes peering at her around the edge of the couch.

"Nkwe!" Palesa cried, horrified.

Nkwe thought she was calling his name in pleasure and kept sucking. It took him a moment to realize Palesa had gone still. He slowly looked up and froze as well to see Yeneneshe staring at him in disgust. He sat up, a line of drool trailing from his lip to Palesa's pink nipple. "Yen --!"

Yeneneshe sprang up, and ignoring her brother's shouts, she ran dramatically out the door.

Outside it was still very dark, and the little village was silhouetted against the stars. Yeneneshe didn't know where she would run, just that she wanted to get far away. She turned to the right and screamed as a red-eyed beast snarled at her with long teeth and snatched her into the air.
