Micro May Day 21: Little Bean
This story's prompt was: Micros normal part of world with a mixed bag response on a farm. A micro has some trouble with his coworker
I wake up to another day and get ready. Bright and early as always. Getting ready for work. I head to the spot I normally wait for my ride, and sure enough, I hear the giant footsteps of my boss coming.
"Hey, Bean. Ready to go?" The big husky looks down at me.
"Yeah, boss." He chuckles and picks me up. I was called Bean around here because I was a micro, no bigger than one. I didn't really like it at first, but it stuck for better or worse, so I got used to it. He takes me to meet my co-worker on the farm.
"How's it going, Hoss?" He asks as he sets me down.
"Good, don't need to be working with that thing again." He huffs out.
"Now, I told you he is as part of the team as you are, so you need to mind your manners. I'll catch you guys later." The boss walks off, leaving me with Hoss. The giant Horse huffs out again. I know better than to try to talk to him, so I just got started. I planted seeds while Hoss did all the other parts of the job.
He "accidentally" steps on me while I was working and presses me into the dirt. "Oops, I mistook you for a pest." He laughs as his toes still pin me.
"That isn't funny," I mutter out, muffled by his foot.
"Whatever you say, doesn't matter. I should have got a real man out here with me, not a pest." He lets me go and gets back to working. I was sadly used to it at this point, and talking back just makes things worse. I've told the boss about this, but he thinks things will just work out in time. He has talked to him before, but Hoss tries to just hide what he does now.
It doesn't take long for him to keep bugging me by knocking me over or watering something too close to me, soaking me. Thank goodness, it felt good in this hot summer heat. He was starting to get on my nerves all the same.
"Stop it, Hoss!"
That sets him off as he stomps over to me.
"You think you can give me commands, you useless bug?" He is about to stomp me when a voice calls out.
"Hoss! That is enough!" The normally friendly and gentle husky yells out. He was pissed.
"Boss I-"
"You were warned to get along, and I find you doing this?"
"I can explain."
"Save it, mister. You are done for the day, and don't think you are getting off easy! If I catch you doing something like this again, you are out of here! Is that clear?"
"Yes, boss."
"Good, now get the hell out."
Hoss walks away still upset but not about to risk his job.
The husky walks up to me, the gentle air around him returning.
"Sorry about that. I have tried to get him to stop, but he has trouble listening when he is set on something; he is stubborn."
That was putting it softly, but he really thinks that he will change for the better one of these days.
"Sure, thank you for standing up for me."
"It was no big deal; I know you are a good man, no matter the way you were born."
"Thanks, boss."
"No, problem now; come on, it was time for lunch anyway." He scoops me up, and he makes me glad to call this place home.
