Search for Love (Part 3)

Part three of Search for Love. It's time something changed...eh?
"Tonve?" Constupro said, his body splayed across the bed.
"Hrm?" Tonve responds. Sitting at the edge of the bed, hunched over.
"What's wrong?" I sit up. Something is clearly bothering him. I crawl over to his back and place my paws on his shoulders.
Tonve reached up and placed a paw on top of one of my paws, "I really enjoyed that, Pro. But I fear for your safety. I've seen Jack around. I know, the kind of people he hangs around. The kind of people, I assume, he works for." He stands up, my paws fall to the bed. "You have to leave this city. If you stay here, not only will Jack kill me, but he will also kill you. Or worse."
I let the words sink in. I can't believe what I'm hearing. So much has happened in the past few days, I can't comprehend it all. It doesn't make sense. I look up at Tonve, "What do you mean? What does Jack do?"
Tonve looks over his shoulder at me, "Get dressed. I'll show you." He steps into the bathroom and slips into some clothing, for what. I'm about to find out.

Tonve looks at me and hands me a pair of sun glasses. "Wear these when we head out." He guides me through his house to the garage.
This, I didn't expect.
"I'm not just a limo driver. That's my day job." Tonve opens the door, revealing a garage, larger than I've ever seen.
I just though his home was small. It's not, it's just taken over by a massive storage for...exotic vehicles. Dozens of high-end sport cars, race cars, drift cars. I can't even comprehend it all. "What in the world?" I stare in awe at this amazing collection.
Tonve turns to me, his paws outstretched towards the vehicles, "By night, I'm a racer. A mechanic for a high end race crew. This is my primary job." He steps forth and approaches the first car on the right.
I have no idea what car it is. It has some symbol of a horse bucking. It's gorgeous though, bright red, looks expensive.
Tonve grabs a set of keys off of the nearby wall and approaches the vehicle, "Tonight is exotics night. Ferrari. Hop in."
This car is unlike any I have ridden in before. The speed and power. It's incredible. I can see why people do this.
As we speed out of the house, Tonve looks over at me. "Keep your head down and stay quiet. If Jack spots you, he may do something unpredictable."
I nod in understanding as we pull up to a red light. Another racer, I presume, pulls up next to us. Though not a Ferrari, I assume, it still looks fast. It's neon green in color. Looks really smooth and fast though.
"Lambo." Tonve nods to the vehicle. The driver of the Lambo lowers the window just enough for his eyes to be seen. He reaches up and taps the ceiling of the vehicle.
Tonve nods. He reaches up and tightens the harness to his seat. He reaches over and grabs onto my harness, tightening it as well.
I have no idea what is going on, but I think I'm about to find out.
Both vehicles start jerking forward, an inch at a time, the engines roaring, the entire vehicle shaking with pure raw power. The light turns green, my heart drops.
A sound louder than a jet engine taking off resonates throughout the cabin of the vehicle. Both cars lurch forward, jutting down the street at speeds I've never encountered on the ground before. The stress on my chest and head is intense, my vision blurs some.
"Hold on!" Tonve shouts as I'm pinned to the door of the vehicle as we pitch into a sharp turn.
We come to a screeching halt. I peer out the window and, through my pounding heart, my tight chest, tense body...I feel sick.
"It's Jack." Tonve glares.
Jack is standing in the middle of the road with two other men standing by his side. They're all wielding what looks like assault rifles.
Tonve looks around his vehicle and understands immediately what happened. "We've been baited."
The Lambo he was just racing, pulls up behind us, boxing us in.
Jack takes a step forward towards us, "Rabbit. You have something of mine. That's my Bitch."
My stomach churns, I dry heave. My nerves are running wild. I look up at Tonve, "Leave me. Don't let him hurt you, over me."
Tonve looks down, matching my gaze, "You do realize, he's going to kill me, and probably you. Right?"
What? Jack kill me? Sure he would beat me, and harass me, but kill me? No way. I can't accept that. "No way, Tonve. Let me talk to him." I try to gather my nerve. My paws too shaky to grasp the handle of the door.
"You have to the count of five!" Jack screams as his men step forward, guns pointed towards us. "Five...Four...Three."
"Get down Pro. Please." Tonve looks over his shoulder then back at Jack. He revs his engine, ready to gun it.
"Two..."
I wait, wait for something, wait for anything. But nothing happens. It has to have been more than a second. I sit here, bent over, paws over my head, waiting for the gun fire. But again, nothing. I look over at Tonve.

"...One..." Jack and his men open fire. The cabin of the Ferrari that Tonve and I are sitting in, bursts open, windows shattering. The vehicle creaks and groans under the bullet fire.
I can't even scream, I stay curled up. Tonve steps on the gas, but the vehicle doesn't move, steam and smoke rise from the engine compartment.
"Fuck!" Tonve hollers. He looks over his shoulder at the engine behind them. A bullet apparently clipped a hose or something. All I know is that we're not going anywhere. And we're going to die. I'm going to die. This isn't how I imagined it ending. Dying by the hands of the man I thought I loved.
Tonve pushes his door open and unbuckles his harness and mine. He grabs me and drags me across the dash, keeping me as low as possible. I guess we're going to make a run for it. I don't think I can. My legs aren't working. My body is just tense.
A spray of red splashes against the fur on my face. Time would have appeared to have stopped. I look up at Tonve, his face expressionless, his jaw slack. He leans forward, his head resting against the steering wheel. Blood pours from his shoulder.
No, no, he can't be, Tonve.
The guns stop firing. A screeching of tires snaps me back to reality. I look over the shattered front window to see Jack driving away in his car. The other two men lying face down in the street. A single person remains, standing in between the two dead men. He's cloaked, black. I can't make any distinguishing features. He looks at me and starts to walk my way.
As the light hits his silhouette, red markings become visible, tracing throughout his clothing. His face still shadowed by the black hoodie he is wearing.
He approaches the driver side of the Ferrari. I can see in one hand a dagger, dripping with blood. The mysterious person flicks his blade, the blood flying off of it. He sheathes it in a holster around his waist. He leans down and checks Tonve's pulse.
After what seemed like an eternity, he walks over to my side, the passenger side. He opens the door and crouches down. I nervously glance at him, hoping that he doesn't kill me.
The person reaches up and pulls back his hoodie, revealing a very handsome wolf. He has a white lower jaw, black muzzle and face. Red lines run up his neck to his maw. "I'm not your friend. I'm not your enemy. But I can tell you. That if you don't leave now. You will be dead shortly."
He flips his hoodie back up, covering his appearance. He stands and turns to walk away.
"I'm Pro." I say hesitantly, unsure of my sudden found energy.
"Colbat."
Is all he said before dashing into the night, disappearing.

I leave the vehicle, giving Tonve one last look, his eyes hazed over, body limp and lifeless. I close my eyes, tears streaming down my face. The roaring sound of more sport cars fills the night air. I run. Anywhere. I just run. As fast as my legs can carry me. I run into the night. I run for freedom. I run for my life. I run for me. I run, to survive. I will avenge my friend, I will avenge his life. Tonve...
