Mephia drew in a deep breath as she looked down. Once again, she found herself at the top of a tall building, and down below her, dark swarms of figures rushed between the grid-like structure of a city she felt familiar with, despite knowing she had never seen it before. The people were her people, yet even as she squinted, they all looked alien to her. The wind whipped across her skin; she felt more naked than she ever had in her life, yet as she looked down at her body, she did not see herself.

Hands with sharp claws filled her vision as she inspected her digits, and looking past them, she noticed that her body wasn't her own. Unfamiliar smoothness caught her attention, and her claws dragged over her form. She felt armor under her fingertips and trembled softly at the revelation. A clacking sound met her ears as she tapped at her body, and as her eyes adjusted, she realized she had scales covering her torso.

She tried to focus on the rest of her body, but her mind felt as though it were in a haze as she looked at the rest of her unfamiliar body, though she could make out she had only one tail. No matter, she reasoned, it felt powerful enough to make up for the lack of quantity. Her hazy eyes drifted back behind her, where she saw someone inching up towards her.

The being opened its mouth, and while Mephia heard nothing, she understood exactly what was said to her. She turned her head back to the town, and her mouth moved, forming words she couldn't translate, but understood as well. Their conversation lasted for what felt like hours, and the light of day slowly bled into twilight, yet as they spoke, Mephia didn't grasp what was being said, not even the emotion from the other figure.

As their dialogue ended, Mephia turned away again, staring over the edge of the building she was perched upon. The height excited and terrified her all at once, and the activity in the streets held her focus as twilight melted into the dark of night. The bustle of the city died, though not entirely, and Mephia leaned further, hanging over the edge with nothing under her. She floated, yet a strain in her tail grew the further out she went.

Something dropped her. Or rather, she dropped herself. Mephia wasn't sure, but what she was sure of was the fact under she was plummeting. Her tail whizzed behind her, and her body twisted so she could see the ground as it rushed up to her face. In her panic, she thrust out her arms and the ground split open like a hungry mouth and Mephia tumbled into the darkness.

"You belong to us."

The kitsune woke up in a sweat, glued to her sleeping bag thanks to sleep paralysis. She unintentionally stared at the ceiling of the caravan as it rocked lazily from side to side. Her mouth parted in a dramatic yawn before she sat up at long last, then scratched along her arm. It itched worse this week, getting bad enough that the kitsune was scratching away fur in clumps, revealing sickly pale skin underneath.

The dream hung around in her mind as she inspected herself. Tails? Check. Limbs? All there. Head? She rubbed at her temples. Still attached, she figured, before she carefully rose to her feet and stumbled towards the far end of the caravan and stared out the window towards the desert. Unimpressive dunes were shadowed by their larger cousins, the sand glistening in the waning sunlight. Her eyes scanned the horizon as the sky burned into orange, and frowned.

Deep down, she could tell she was close. The horrible itch that had driven into her mind caused this, had guided her you'd far. It was becoming unbearable, and she tugged at the garment she wore; the tatters from last week's outfit were awkwardly stitched back together in a way that would have made a courtesan look away in shame. She needed the freedom, Mephia told herself, as the glare from the sands bathed the window in the sun's light.

The kitsune nearly leaped from her skin, as the glare hit the window and showed her a pair of reptilian eyes staring back. Mephia reached for her gun and aimed for the window just as the light sunk lower, and the unfamiliar face disappeared. She could feel her heart racing, instincts screaming as the caravan slowed to a stop.

"How much further, ya reckon?" The basset shouted from the cabin of the caravan, "I ain't seen nothin' but sand for the last four hours. We're real far from anywhere." The kitsune gripped her gun tightly before she slid it back into her holster. She was speechless, how could she explain such a strong gut feeling to him, after all? She forced her way out of the caravan, her legs struggling to keep her standing up as she climbed to the top of the vehicle, back to her post. Her eyes scanned the horizon, and her heart sped up again.

"One more hour away," she insisted, "Keep driving forward. Don't slow down for anything, we need to hurry." She scratched at her bicep, fingers dug into mangy fur, tearing away clumps of hair as a crazed look spread across her features. "We're almost there. Then I'll let you go back." The basset hung his head out of the window to stare up at her, but she pointed the shotgun at him.

"Keep. Driving."

--

The sun had finally slid behind the far off dunes when Mephia saw it. She slammed the butt of her shotgun against the caravan's roof. The caravan slowed to a stop as she hopped off and took shaky steps in front of the vehicle. With a thud, the kitsune dropped to her knees and stared before her, an empty swath of sand with only a few jagged rocks were what called her out here.

She was dumbstruck once more. Why had her instincts told her to come here? Why were they in the middle of nowhere? She looked over her shoulder at the bassett, who stared at her quietly, furious inside that he had wasted the time, and fuel, to come out for nothing. He growled angrily and punched Mephia in the back of the head, who slumped forward. She hardly felt the hit, she felt numb as her heart raced. She was where she needed to be, but then why was there nothing else here?

"Leave," She insisted, "I won't bother you again. I'm sorry to have dragged you out for nothing. You have every right to be mad." The basset frowned, he watched her before he sighed out. "Let's just...set up camp here and head out in the morning. If I leave you here, you'll freeze to death." Mephia frowned, her heart felt like it was getting ripped from her chest as she stared at the emptiness. A dull, painful throbbing moved through her head as she nodded, and slowly stood up.

Back in the caravan, she stared out the window, watching the dune that had called to her. The basset had prepared dinner yet should couldn't eat a bite. She yawned and popped her jaw before she settled down, sitting on a crate of textiles as she contemplated her instincts. Her stomach churned in revulsion, suddenly, and she doubled over, gasping for breath. She clawed at her stomach, then stood on her shaky legs once more. She placed her hand on the window and stared out between her fingers. Her instincts were going mad again. She needed to do something.

The door slammed open as she marched out of the caravan, determined to discover what had brought her to such an isolated area. She was drawn toward the rocks, and she fell to her knees as her eyes glanced between each rock. She hissed through her teeth, her tails flicked erratically behind her before she dug her hands into the sand. A loud howl escaped her as she dug into the sand, and she scooped handful after handful of sand to each side. Desperation fueled her actions as she tore into ground.

Hours passed by in what felt like minutes as the kitsune dug a trench in the sand, deep enough to hide her body if she laid down in it. She panted for breath before she pounded her fists into the sand until she noticed the bulge that was just under her skin start to crawl towards her fingertips. Her eyes widened. She knew exactly what it was; the thing that had caused her itching to start from the very beginning. Mephia was frozen as the bulge slid towards her fingertips before she let out a sharp snarl, the creature forcing out of her skin and into the sand.

Mephia's eyes glazed over. The itch in her body had finally left, the call of her instinct quieted down, she finally felt free. As she slowly stood back up, she breathed out heavily, eyes finally focusing once more as she pulled herself out of the hole she had made, and only managed to walk a few paces before her legs started to give out again. She felt the ground tremble, and her fur stood on end as she twisted her head to look towards the rocks.

They shifted, to the kitsune's surprise, tumbling down the opposite side of the dune as the sands swelled upwards before it started to fall away in sheets. Mephia's eyes widened as a dark gray building breached the sands, startling her enough to make her jump to her feet. Thin rivers of sand rushed from smoothed angles on the roof to frame a steel door that dwarfed the kitsune.

She inched closer to the door, terrified and wanting at the same time as she felt herself drag her feet through the sands. Approaching the massive doors, she felt her stomach twist into knots that made every step feel more unbearable than the last. One hand lifted, her fingers trembled before she touched the door. It was icy, and she wanted to jerk her hand away, yet instead she leaned in and pressed her other hand against the cold, smooth metal.

A hiss echoed through the still night air, and the doors slid apart, melting into the darkness within. Mephia felt herself get drawn into structure even as a fearful sensation gnawed right into her bones as she staggered forward. What remained of her fur stood on end as she shuffled into the dark, her paws nearly losing balance as she went from the sand to more stable ground. The metal below her bare claws felt uncomfortable yet welcome at the same time, like a bath that starts off too hot to touch.

As her eyes adjusted to the darkness as she wandered in deeper, her hands outstretched as she fumbled around for something, anything that would assist her. There was a gnawing feeling in her gut, a mix of terror and elation as she slowly moved further inward. A hot breath escaped her before she jolted, touching a wall and discovering its smoothness. She looked over her shoulder to where she had come in, only to realize that the entrance had shut behind her., leaving her to deal with the mistake she feared she had made.

The darkened room's details slowly came into focus for the kitsune, as unseen lamps dimly lit up. The flooring was metal, cold to the touch with every step she made, but now she could see her reflection, her features muted thanks to the unpolished surface. Her eyes then traced a path across the room itself. She found the doors that had locked her in, and worry filled her gut. There was no immediately visible way to get them back open, and she slowly forced herself to stagger back towards the entrance, only for her mind to kick in; Why would an empty building be hiding under the sand of a lifeless desert?

Her question was answered, in part, as an unfamiliar hissing filled the room. Mephia's ears twitched as her tired body twisted as she tried to find the source of the sound. The center of the floor twisted, then parted, revealing a massive hole. Worry filled the kitsune's mind, gradually, as the top of a pair of pillars, joined near the bottom, resembling a massive U with struts that kept it firmly planted to the platform it was on. Mephia stepped closer to the machine and placed her hand against it.

Her heart leaped as she felt the structure shift under her fingers, and it seemed to spread. She convinced herself it was only her imagination until her skin crawled when a voice entered her mind. She recognized the language, vaguely, as the same one from her dream. Her body acted on its own as she felt her feet drag themselves closer to the center of the structure. Her instincts screamed at her to try and get out of the room, to get away from the machine. Yet before she realized it she was standing in the center, her arms lifted and she grabbed at either pillar, and her breathing slowed.

Her wrists were soon trapped, shackled to the machine before she could clear her mind of the haze that had started to settle in. She whipped her balding tails in frustration, her teeth grit painfully as she tried to pull her limbs free. With her body lurching forward, she realized her ankles were stuck as well. With a seething breath, she shouted at the walls, though in her exhausted state, it was nothing more than an empty threat. She curled her hands into fists before the voice returned and rung through her head.

Mephia's brain felt like it was being torn from the inside, just as the machine started to sink down, dragging the kitsune down into depths unimaginable to her. She tugged and struggled, shouting and screaming, not that it seemed to matter to whatever was dragging her down into the depths. Her eyes shut tightly as she forced herself to struggle against her bonds, lips curled in a silent snarl, her muscles straining under her skin as distant lights started to flash by. (They're watching me,) she thought to herself, (they're doing this to me!) Her claws extended as her heart started to thump faster, her rational mind trying to calm her down, trying to reason that there's nothing watching her.

The lights shone over Mephia again, as she felt her skin crawl, then suddenly start burning with an insatiable itch. Her head whipped to watch her arms, as the light that shone distantly washed over her body, as her arm grew bumpy and tough, like a reptile's skin. The kitsune's teeth gnashed together painfully, teeth grinding before a sickening sensation filled her mouth. The kitsune's jaws shifted, then cracked painfully as her teeth reformed, changing positions within her muzzle and shifting.

Mephia nearly passed out from the pain, though a shrill voice in her head hissed and sputtered, as she kept herself conscious through the ordeal. Her face elongated her eyes crossed to watch as a reptilian snout forced itself through her muzzle, ripping her open as though she were nothing more than a paper bag. She gasped for air, chilling her mouth and forcing her to snap her jaws shut. Her teeth folded unnaturally, yet comfortably against the roof of her mouth. (They are changing us!) Her mind screeched, as she struggled against her binds anew.

She felt her strength draining, and she felt sick to her stomach as she became acutely aware of a disgusting crunching within her body. Her chest heaved as her ribs shifted, and her organs shifted to accommodate her changing skeletal structure. A pained hiss streamed from her lungs as her legs kicked, unrestrained. Another scream echoed through the dark tunnel before light shone in and illuminated Mephia's ever-changing body. She was horrified, her tail was becoming fused together into one long tail, and hung together between her legs in an awful fashion, no longer swift and soft as they once were.

Mephia let out another howl, as her legs soon felt like jelly. She fought and struggled, terrified. (They're changing us!) that shrill voice returned, (We are becoming what we were meant to be!) Mephia howled again, to drown out the voice in her mind as her legs felt worse. The painful sensation returned and she hung her head as she let out a whimper of defeat. Her eyes widened when she watched her legs stitch themselves together, as the voice in her head cheered this development on. She tried to kick her legs as they melted into one, strong limb before it started to lengthen.

Her leg looked strange, and she twisted it, squirming, snarling as she tried to inspect it. Bones shifted again, crackling painfully much to Mephia's dismay. She screamed out in pain once more, and she saw spots in the edges of her vision. Her new muzzle opened again, and her fangs exposed themselves as she let out a painful hiss and her tongue flickered out. To her shock, she could taste the air, and her whole body winced. She could taste the metal all around, and her weakened body could only slightly squirm, as she felt her tail and legs becoming one. Her bones fused painfully together, as raw nerve and muscle shifted around her new skeleton.

Mephia hung her head as a droning sound filled her ears, suddenly acutely aware of every snap, gurgle, and painful twist that her body was going through. She let loose a sibilant scream as she fought again, thrashing with the last ounces of her strength. Sharp breaths escaped her as her tongue flickered out, able to taste metal and blood now. Her body twisted before her tail quickly smashed against one of the bases of the structure that kept her captured, and the familiar voice in her skull shrieked in defiance. She wasn't sure if was caused by the strange transformation she was going through, but that voice felt more familiar like it was her own at a different pitch.

Another scream echoed in her mind as she twisted her tail tighter around the structure that held her. She had to destroy it, she told herself, even as her mental voice screamed out again. (Not yet! We're not complete! You can't turn back on them now!) Pain shot through her body, eliciting a new scream of agony that echoed through the chamber. Lights shone across her body, and Mephia realized that her fur was getting replaced not with skin, but scales. The lights become more frequent and allowed Mephia to see the way her body was transforming, scales crawling across every inch of her body, and fully encased the ex-kitsune.

Her eyes bulged as she stared at herself in horror, while the voice in her head seemed to celebrate. )This is how we were meant to be! This is what perfection is!) Perfection? Mephia barely understood the voice, why it was torturing her, yet as she dwelled on those words, she flexed her tail again. There was more power there than she had had in her two arms back when she was a run-of-the-mill mammal. She curled her fingers, and let her new claws dig into her palms, the sharpened ends prickling into her palms.

With a hiss rising up from her, she wrapped her tail tighter around the strut she had managed to coil around already. The voice didn't fight back this time, much to the reptile's dissatisfaction, and with a strained hiss, she started to yank and pry at the pylon she held within her muscled tail. She felt it creak, and her tongue flickered out to taste the air. She tugged again, yanking here and there, bending as she tugged with her arm as well. A deep, feral need to be free rushed into her head, bringing with it a frenetic feeling that caused Mephia to writhe about like a freshly skewered fish. Her tail yanked forcefully, and she felt it bend with her strength. She was winning!

(Show them our power! Show them we'll no longer be contained!) For once, the reptile agreed with her inner voice, as she yanked again, and swung her bulk away from the pylon she had grappled. Another creak, she felt the metal had started to give, and suddenly threw herself into the single task of breathing the device that held her. With a sound that was somehow worse than nails on a chalkboard, metal tore away from metal, and suddenly the reptile found herself flung against the opposing strut, her head slammed against the metal, and with stars in her eyes, she started the process over again, she yanked and twisted herself until she managed to rip her binding from its support.

She breathed heavily, hissing as her mind head throbbed with pain, a migraine from hell taking over her senses as she continued to see spots before her eyes. The distant lights streamed in constantly now, and Mephia took this chance to look over her transformed body. She slammed her arms downward, sending the metal into the flooring and denting it with ease as she realized her new, reptilian limbs were much stronger than they were, with sharp claws at the ends that gleamed dangerously in the light; deadly sharp and at her command. Past the metal that clung to her wrists, her arms were a burnt orange color, covered in scales - in perfection - and under that protective layer was lean, rippling muscle.

She stared down at herself, her curves still there, in every way they'd been before. Soft touches to her chest revealed that while the scales there were still tough, they were more flexible and as sensitive as they were before her transformation. A low hiss of acceptance came over her before she twisted her head to get a better look down below. Her eyes trailed across where her legs used to be, now fused into one powerful tail that supported her, her forked tongue flickering out and, in her addled state, she realized what had become of her; she was no simple reptile; she was a naga, a creature she'd only heard of in long-off legend before. A hiss pushed from her lungs in surprise as she curled her tail around herself, coiled into a pile as she gently lowered herself into it.

She touched over her tail, she needed to make sure what was going on was real, but not only was it real, she felt like perfection. A grin crawled across her face, as the lights shone across her scales and revealed their glossy sheen. Her claws twitched faintly before a rush of air blasted over her body and drew her attention away from herself. Her eyes focused in front of her, as the lights disappeared, and the platform plunged into a wide open space below the surface of the planet. Mephia's eyes widened as she saw a vast, subterranean town comprised of other reptiles like her. Nostalgia and anxiety washed over her in equal amounts and had she eaten recently, she was sure she was going to lose the contents of her stomach.

The memories of the dream flooded into her mind as she gazed across the town and her heart leaped into her throat as her muddled mind fought against the thoughts in her mind. She wasn't one of these creatures, no. Even with their long tails, those scales that she could just barely tell from the distance she was at. She seethed and grabbed her head tightly. Everything felt wrong, and her mind felt as though it were in a shouting match within itself. Pain bubbled within her skull as a vitriolic hiss leaped past her lips, and she grabbed at her skull, her new claws scratching against her scales as she doubled over. She felt like she was about to fall over, even though her tail managed to keep her upright, as she loomed over the town as it rose up to meet her.

She suddenly twisted herself around and stared at the spot on the platform that had the machine that held her down. (I am complete!) Mephia hissed, not understanding what was going on in her mind, as she dragged herself towards the machine, only to fall painfully forward, her chest pinned to the surprisingly cold floor. Another hiss and she spit this time, her fangs unfolding only to tuck back into her mouth as she lifted her arms, then swung them down to beat the machine that held her with its own parts.

The rhythmic slamming of metal on metal did nothing to aid Mephia's headache, yet she felt better for it, as the machine was dented and crushed under her power. "What! Have! You! Done! To! Me!" she screeched in an unfamiliar voice as the platform continued its descent, feeling like ages she since was first captured for this twisted experiment. She heaved for breath as she stared at the dented machine, her heart in her throat as she grabbed at the metal that still held her wrists. The clasps let go of her as she yanked at them, no longer controlled by the device, not that they were doing anything but weighing her down slightly when they were detached.

Mephia felt the platform slow to a halt, yet as she looked over the edge, she noticed the city was still far below. She twisted awkwardly, to look around her, only to spot another naga on the far end of the platform. Her eyes narrowed, and her body tensed as she tried to open her mouth to speak, a feeling of rage and relief washing over her in alternating beats. She slithered around until she faced the other reptile and inspected them closely. She couldn't tell exactly what gender they were, but they sported a large hood, adorned with two jewels, one in each half of the hood. They wore a white robe that contrasted with the black scales that covered their body, and as they slithered forward, it rippled with each movement the naga made.

Mephia's face twisted as she saw that hood. She trembled, and shouted, not that she had any words to speak. She only shouted, and shouted a second time, but the other naga came closer, and their tongue flickered out to get Mephia's scent. A tail-length away and the stranger stopped. The ex-kitsune's muscled tensed again, she tilted forward. Kill. That's what was on her mind. Kill. Whoever this was, they were behind this plot to kidnap her. It was their plot to change her. She hissed under her breath as the hooded naga flickered their tongue out again before they finally spoke.

"Welcome, Mephia." She froze in place when she heard her own name. She opened her mouth to speak, but the other naga was first, "Don't bother asking questions. What matters now is your acceptance of your new lot in life." The naga inched closer, and Mephia's body screamed silently at her. Her muscles tensed and burned, her tail pulled into a pile under her, ready to pounce.

"A better lot," Mephia heard her own voice, and sneered, it was wrong. It was just like the voice in her head, "I can't thank you enough." No! No that's not what she wanted to say at all! She curled her clawed fingers until she made a fist, fighting her thoughts, "You've turned me into what most men think of only as a legend. I want to repay you." Mephia let out a pained hiss as she tried to tug herself away from the other naga, yet she felt as though she were blocked by a heavy wall behind her. She narrowed her eyes to slits as she thrashed her tail tip back and forth uselessly, willing herself to lunge at the other naga, willing herself to fight against her fate.

"I can see you're not one of us yet," The other naga hissed in a gentle voice, slithering one foot closer. Mephia's expression said it all, as the stranger continued, "and it doesn't look like you are willing to accept it just yet. A shame. That is how the world works, however. This is your future." She motioned behind Mephia, who twisted around to look out over the platform to stare at the town as her face scrunched in defiance. She felt like she was only watching what she was doing, out of control as she motioned to the buildings, yet she fell mute. What was she supposed to do? Supposed to ask? The newly remade naga opened her mouth, the first thing she felt like she had control over in the last five minutes, and yet she snapped her jaws shut again.

"I..don't..." Mephia struggled to speak, her fingers curled into fists again, before she hissed out, "I don't want...this...perfection." Her brow furrowed as the wording escaped her. Perfection? She was perfect before! She was just stronger now. Larger, more dangerous. Mephia eyed herself; she was curvier, too, now that she gave herself a proper look. She brought her claws up and ran them across her form, her eyes narrowed to slits as she felt her protective scales, and she hissed out calmly.

"You can't...make me stay here." Mephia struggled to speak, finally gathering her last bits of mental strength. She let out another, desperate sounding hiss at this rate. She may have felt perfect, but she was on the verge of terror. She grabbed at her body, as she realized she had no weapons on her, save for her sharp claws. Every muscle tensed within the naga's body once more, and she flickered out her own tongue to taste at the stranger's scent. Female. The other naga was female. Mephia's tail tip curled tight into a little spiral, and she lurched forward, going from tail's length away to arm's reach. She imagined punching the other naga, but as she glanced upwards, she realized she couldn't even see where she had come from. Above, certainly, yet there was no way she could figure out how to go back.

"Perhaps not. But judging by the look on your face, you have no idea where to go, now," The hooded reptile moved closer, by only a few inches, then lifted her arms and touched Mephia's face. Kill her! Kill her! She changed us! (They made us perfect. Why fight?) The voices in Mephia's head only prolonged her headache, and her strained expression told everything the stranger needed to know in that moment. She grasped Mephia's head tighter and forced her to look her in the eyes.

"You are with us now. You are no longer who or what you were on the surface. You are now Liasu." Mephia's eyes widened slightly, and she struggled for a moment. The stranger's tail wrapped slowly around Mephia's middle. "Say it with me." The stranger took in a deep breath, and maintained eye contact.

"I am now Liasu."

"...I...I am...I'm M-Mephia." She felt a sharp slap cross her face as she disobeyed the stranger, and hissed out painfully. The hooded naga hissed out under her breath with frustration, and gripped Mephia's face tighter.

"I am now Liasu." The stranger repeated.

"I...I..." Mephia started, staring quietly as her tail curled up around the tail that had grabbed at her middle. "I...Please...no..." She softly begged, and grabbed at the tail that was holding her middle. It squeezed down, and started to strain her lungs as the stranger leaned in.

"You. Are. Liasu. Mephia will die, one way or another. It's up to you, Liasu, if you die with her."

Fight her! Submit! Kill her! Obey! Survive! Live! The naga's mind felt like it was fizzing like a can of soda that's been shaken to the point of bursting. She grabbed at the arms of the stranger, and struggled with her mind, her eyes shutting tight before she felt something new happening to her. She felt her skin stretch as she toyed with the idea of obeying, of submitting and accepting her new place in this society. Her head felt relief as she thought of mingling with other nagas just like her, the pressure escaping as she opened her mouth once more, her head now framed by a large hood.

"I am Liasu."
