#1 of Petrograd

Klara, a bat living in 1917 Russia, reunites with an old friend who has returned to Petrograd on a secret mission.

The first part of a two-parter mini series set during the uncertain days just before the Russian Civil War.

July 1, 1917

A boarding house somewhere in Petrograd...

Klara had always counted Kolya as a dear friend, so when he came to her in the early hours of the morning, it was impossible to turn him away.

Kolya was a mink, his fur a patchwork of coffee brown and snowy winter white, and he moved quietly, tiptoeing into Klara's little berth at one end of the rooming house and shifting aside her privacy curtain with one paw. There were other people not so far away, and he took every care not to wake them.

"Klara," the mink whispered, settling down on his knees next to her bed, "wake up."

She did so, ears fluttering, trying to blink the sleep from her eyes. Kira was a bat, sleekly built and covered in a velvety layer of short brown fur. She'd curled into a ball with her wings wrapped around herself and was hesitant to return to wakefulness. She'd been very comfortable.

"Kolya...?" She asked sleepily, only half recognizing the shadowed figure before her. The mink tugged the privacy curtain fully shut again and smiled wanly. He was practically asleep on his paws, she realized, "...are you alright?"

Kolya nodded, forcing his smile wider, but there was more than simple fatigue weighing down on him. The mink was nervous about something.

For a moment he hesitated, then seemed to decide that Klara could be trusted with the information he had.

"A few Army regiments will mutiny the day after tomorrow. They want Comrade Lenin to step in and seize power...but we don't know if he or Trotsky will take action."

Klara straightened up, eyes going almost owlishly wide, her ears perking, paws meeting in her lap. She wasn't sure whether to be excited or anxious or...

Kolya had always been more of a Bolshevik than her. She'd always been content to simply keep her head down and move along, but Kolya had practically been born on the barricades. Still, the uncertainty of the situation seemed to have spooked him. That and...

"I was given a message to deliver," he explained, "but..." He let out a slow breath, eyes flickering to the head of Klara's bed, where a grimy little window was, "there are secret police everywhere."

"Do they know you?" Klara asked, alarmed, her voice rising a little.

"I think so." Kolya was silent for a moment, then slowly slumped forward with a sigh, until his muzzle was resting on Klara's bedspread. "...I'm sorry I woke you." He mumbled into the bedspread. At that moment he sounded very, very tired.

Klara shook her head and scooted over in bed, until she was up against the wall. Flipping her blankets up, she patted the stretch of mattress next to her.

"You must be exhausted." She said, curling her legs under her, white bloomers pushed somewhat off kilter by her movements, riding up rather high on her thighs.

Kolya smiled and attempted to demur, though Klara could tell that this was just a polite formality.

"I couldn't..."

Reaching over, she all but pulled Kolya into bed next to her, the mink settling onto the narrow mattress with a squeak of springs. There was just barely enough room for the both of them, the mink and bat ending up on their sides, practically muzzle to muzzle.

"It's nice seeing you again," Klara said after they'd settled in, voice still low, just barely over a whisper, "how's Moscow?"

Kolya seesawed a paw.

"I saw the Kremlin Palace. It's empty now. We're halfway to our goal."

"Ah, the revolution..." Klara let her eyes slide slowly shut.

"You ought to be more excited," he chided gently, "it's a great opportunity for the workers of Russia. You wouldn't need to do what you do if there was a classless society."

Klara sighed softly into her pillow, one eye opening just a sliver.

"It's not so bad..." She mumbled sleepily, fighting back a hard edged wave of fatigue. She'd only been in bed for maybe an hour when Kolya had come, and now that the initial surprise of the situation was past...

"You could be a nurse. Remember when you wanted to be a nurse?"

"Kolya..."

The mink persisted, one paw reaching out to rest lightly on her shoulder.

"No woman should have to sell herself in order to afford bread." He said gravely.

"I know men who sell themselves too." Klara said, knowing she was deliberately missing the point.

"You know what I mean."

Klara sighed.

"...What does the message say?" She asked after a moment.

"Hmm?"

"The message you're taking to Lenin."

Kolya cracked a smile.

"Not Lenin, just someone at the Putilov Works."

Klara blinked. The Putilov Works were the largest set of factories in Petrograd. They were also perpetually surrounded by police and military patrols seeking out Bolshevik revolutionaries. Not exactly friendly territory for someone like Kolya.

Her concern must have shown, for Kolya shifted closer, arm going comfortingly around the bat. Klara wrapped a wing around him in turn and pulled the mink close, burying her face in the soft fur between his shoulder and neck.

He smelled faintly of coal smoke, and Klara supposed he'd been on trains and trucks all day, traveling from Moscow.

Kolya slowly relaxed, the day's tension draining slowly away.

"Where'd you go tonight?" He asked.

"Last night," Klara corrected, "it's the morning now."

"Barely," the mink protested, "...was it Svetlana's."

"It was," Klara couldn't help but smile, "you know me so well."

"You're wearing the perfume I got you for your birthday," his breath ruffled the fur on one side of her neck, "you only wear that when you go to fancy places."

"Hmm..." Klara vocalized. Had that really only been the previous summer? It seemed so long ago. She'd been turning eighteen then. Becoming a woman.

"I wish we saw more of each other." Kolya said, after a long, silent moment, drained from the night.

"Maybe if the revolution happens and Lenin makes me a nurse." Klara said with a faint smile.

"Remember after the party? You chased me around and sprayed me with perfume."

"I was very drunk."

"You'd had about a thimbleful of sherry."

"You said perfume was only for women," Klara smirked, "I sure showed you."

"And...after..."

Leaning forward, Klara planted a gentle kiss on the tip of the mink's nose. It was the first thing she could think of to do. The motion was somewhat blurred by fatigue, but that same sleepiness worked to slow everything down to a relaxed, languid pace.

Their bodies, pressed tight, seemed to shiver in tandem, Kolya's eyes gone wide as he realized that he'd been preempted. Extending one leg, Klara stroked a paw down Kolya's leg, not so accidentally pressing her groin against his upper thigh.

"I remember." She said.

Kolya leaned in for a kiss, paws stroking over the firm bundles of muscles behind her shoulders that held her wings on. Their lips met, and Klara felt a momentary poke of sharp teeth before Kolya readjusted his trajectory, both of them maneuvering delicately on the mattress, trying not to make any unnecessary noise.

Klara let her paws roam lower, finding the small of Kolya's back, hugging the mink tight to herself, his tail curling over her leg. She felt a hard poke against her inner thigh and glanced down, Kolya blushing clear through his fur as he realized just what she'd noticed.

"Could we...?" He asked, hesitating a moment before grinding against her. Klara let him, but her eyes were darting over Kolya and to her privacy curtain, to the other berths not so very far away.

If she were caught then the landlord would be upset, since nighttime visitors were disallowed (especially ones of an amorous nature), but...

Kolya felt strong and lean, he'd clearly been working hard at something since his departure for Moscow, and she was so happy to see him after such a long time away. She'd always counted Kolya as a dear friend, and knew it would be very difficult to turn down his request.

So she didn't.

"We have to be quiet." She said, and kissed him again, grinding back against the mink's hardness with carefully measured little rolls of her hips.

He stroked the velvety, almost translucent panes of skin that covered her wings and nodded, looking almost entranced, as well as just a bit nervous. He was probably thinking of the experience she'd acquired during his absence, the tricks she'd learned. Was he wondering how he could possibly keep up?

A part of Klara felt slightly smug about this realization, but she quashed that. They'd take it slow, she decided. Not only would that help them to keep their tryst quiet, but also...it just felt right.

Kolya maneuvered her onto her back with gentle care, the bat molding into his motions, letting him take the initiative. He was growing more bold, she felt his paws over her breasts, tracing her nipples through the thin fabric of her nightshirt, and again the grinding of his hardness, this time directly between her legs.

Klara took a shivery breath, an anticipatory sort of numbness tracing her cheeks, seeming to draw sensation out of the rest of her body, concentrating it entirely in the places that Kolya was touching her.

His paws travel to her hips and she drew her legs up into the air as he slid her bloomers off and set them aside, leaving her bare and exposed. Klara spread her legs further, teasing Kolya's sides with her toes, all but urging him forward.

The mink needed no encouragement, undoing his pants and shoving them down around his hips, a hard length of pointed, pre leaking cock sticking from his white furred sheath.

"Fuck me." Klara whispered. She'd said those words many times but never meant it in anything more than a superficial, almost theatrical way. But now, though she couldn't raise her voice or inject anything more than an urgent sort of need into her tone, she meant them.

Kolya positioned himself between her spread legs and leaned over her, kissing her hard as he slid his length in. Klara made herself relax, she was small and Kolya was thick, but the penetration didn't hurt. He gasped into her mouth as he hilted into her, heavy white furred balls pressing against the base of her nubby tail, all but throbbing with need.

Klara folded her wings over him, watching the mink's tail wave behind its owner, fluffed out and eager. Lust was taking over, she realized, Kolya struggling not to just pound into her until he was satisfied. She could sympathize a bit with that, his cock was so deliciously hot and thick, each little splash of pre he produced seeming to radiate a soft, almost electric warmth that filled her center and made her go increasingly shaky and short of breath.

She ground back against him a little and the mink reciprocated, beginning to thrust, careful not to make the bed squeak too much even as he nibbled gently at the side of her neck, each carefully measured poke of his sharp teeth sending tingles radiating throughout her entire body.

Klara could feel herself growing increasingly wet as Kolya's cock sawed in and out of her, the fur between her legs sodden, the warmth there growing and spilling over into an nearly intolerable heat. It was like she was a samovar, right on the brink of boiling over.

She bucked her hips against Kolya's, the mink shivering in place as his cock spasmed inside of her. His thrusts were growing shorter and more jagged, his breath coming in ragged little gasps. He seemed to be doing his very best to hold on. Kolya could feel the mink trembling with the strength of his efforts.

"Go ahead," Klara urged, voice just barely kept a whisper, "inside me."

Kolya blinked, clearly taken by surprise, but Klara expedited the mink's decision and wrapped her legs around his hips, forcing him into her as deep as he could go. Momentarily surprised, but surrounded on all sides by velvety warmth and exquisitely soft tightness, the mink's control crumbled and he humped wildly into her for a few more moments, then all but exploded into her womb.

Klara huffed for breath, an enjoyable shiver rolling through her as she felt Kolya's climax, a half dozen quick spurts of hot seed, flooding her pussy, painting the walls of her tunnel white.

The mink slumped atop her, panting for breath, tail and fur slowly settling. Klara couldn't erase the smile from her face, even as the glow slowly subsided. She hadn't quite cum, but the feeling of rightness over what she'd done was worth more than a silly orgasm any day of the week.

"...Did we wake anyone up?" Kolya asked after a moment, still short of breath.

Klara smiled and kissed him on the tip of the nose.

"It doesn't matter," she whispered back, "...that was really nice."

Kolya, reassured, shifted in place and slowly, carefully, pulled out of Klara with a muted gasp, a trickle of cum following. Klara mopped it up with her bloomers, figuring that it wasn't the worst they'd been through.

For a moment the two of them were silent, simply breathing and lying much as they'd been before their tryst, on their sides, muzzle to muzzle.

"I have to deliver my message before noon tomorrow." Kolya said after a long moment had passed. He still seemed tense even thinking about doing so, but his fear was almost abstract now, softened by the pleasantness of what they'd just done.

"Maybe I could come with you." Klara said before she could stop herself. She wasn't sure where exactly the words had come from, but they, like the sex, just felt right.

Kolya's ears perked up and he began to shake his head before realizing just what she was saying.

"...Are you serious?" He asked. Klara thought she could hear an undertone of hopefulness in the mink's voice.

She nodded without hesitation.

"It's just a message," she said, "I'm not becoming a revolutionary or anything."

Kolya grinned.

"This is how it starts," he leaned forward to kiss her gently, clearly pleased, "...you'll be waving the crimson banner in no time."

Klara rubbed her thighs slowly together, enjoying the residual tingle that radiated out from between her legs as she returned the mink's kiss, adding a teasing hint of tongue. She was pleased to hear a slight catch in Kolya's breath.

"Only if Lenin proclaims me the Minister of all nurses." She said with mock seriousness.

Kolya rolled his eyes but couldn't contain a smile.

"So...if we're going together..."

"Not together," Klara said, "I'll distract the secret police while you slip past." It was the soundest plan she could think of.

"Are you sure?" Kolya asked. She could tell he liked the plan, but the mink sounded concerned all the same, "what if they arrest you?"

"They wont." Klara assured him.

After that there wasn't much conversation, and Klara hugged Kolya tight as she drifted back to sleep, borne on a lavender scented cloud.
