Chapter One: A mouse named Ama
Ama sniffed at the air in her desperate attempt to locate any scraps of food that might have been left behind. Having searched the countertops and kitchen table, Ama quickly made it from one end of the room to the other. Light from the rising sun beamed through the kitchen window, telling her she didn't have much time left to search. The giants would soon wake. She pulled her hood back and tilted her head, her ears picking up a sound from behind.
"Fucking mouse!"
The pounding of Ama's heart nearly made her faint as she leapt from under the giant's bare foot. He attempted several times to crush her, but she was nimble enough to evade a death by him.
"Kill it, don't let it get away!" Screamed the female giant from the kitchen entrance. Ama squeaked as a steel-toed workbook landed hard to her left. The slippery black and white vinyl tiles of the kitchen floor was preventing her an easy escape. She made her way to the underside of the gas range just as the lights came on. The giant reached down under the range but was too large to fit. Ama, catching her breath, thought about biting him for causing her such distress. But as he cursed loudly, she let out a sigh and made her way towards the hole at the back of the range.
