Part 2: Dead Silence
#2 of Deep in Kansas
Amanda, now having convinced the fox of her tremendous claims. Finds herself in an abandoned, eerie town full of zombies and ghosts. Her utmost concern is keeping the fox alive. As she knew full well the vixen would not survive an encounter.
The fox gaped at Amanda for what seemed like five minutes.
"You weren't kidding." The fox was stunned.
Amanda frowned. "I'm not someone who'd crack jokes."
"I-I'm" A stutter. "-sorry. I just found it so hard to believe. Since it'd mean you were so much larger than any anthro I've seen with the leviathan gene, and they were all huge." The fox stopped. "Was I ever wrong? You've defined what it means to possess the gene. The fact that you managed what you did back there astonishes me."
"Hmph." The Indagator grunted then proceeded to clasp the cloak over herself again, hiding away her body.
"I guess that cloak is necessary for you to even fight."
Amanda smirked. "It's not."
The fox seemed puzzled. "How? I don't see how you can even reach over breasts that huge. Never mind the rest of you."
"The size, weight, and tightness of my breasts make them a lethal weapon. As does the size and weight of everything else."
The vixen was confused by the statement at first. Until Angela realized what the Indagator meant. "You're a giant, super-heavy wrecking ball."
With a nod of affirmation from the horse, the fox took a moment to appreciate the destructive power she wascapable of.
"What do you know of this place?"
Switching back to the task on hand, the fox quickly stated. "Elthorpe farms is a long-running family farm dating back to the 1920s. There have been a few incidents here but nothing too major."
"What were the incidents?"
"Petty crimes, like stealing, graffiti, low-level fraud, and so on. Nothing major."
"Then what caused you to get an Indagator?"
The fox sighed loudly. "We got a call, just outside of the farms of someone going in but never coming back out. When we sent officers down to investigate, they never came back." A pause. "I was sent down with a whole police unit of five cars. When we arrived, we sent in some of our own. Only to have one, half-dead, come stumbling back."
"What happened to him?" Amanda questioned the fox.
"Well, he told us there was some sort of un-earthly nightmare inside that killed everyone else he was sent with. So, we sent in five more officers." Angela, having gotten tense retelling her story, had begun to tremble in fear. "There was this blood-curdling scream, one which I'd never heard. It was so-"
"Horrifying?"
The fox shook. "Ye-yeah. It was horrendous. The rest of the unit was terrified. So we called it and told ourselves to get an Indagator."
"Then why were some detectives sent in? You mentioned earlier some detectives should've already been here."
"Well, when we first tried to get an Indagator, the rest of the department didn't want to believe us, so they sent in some detectives. It wasn't until a day after they'd been sent and not returned did the department finally believe us. So, here we are."
The Indagator slowly nodded. She watched the fox regain her composure and shift her gaze back to the corpse.
"Anyway, what on Earth is that thing?"
"A zombie of some sort," Amanda replied, unsure.
"Of some sort?" The fox seemed annoyed, given the vague response.
"I don't know for sure, as this one doesn't behave like any other zombie I've seen. It shows signs of postmortem, like any other zombie, yet-" She crouched as low as she could, pressing her drum-tight nutsack against the ground. "It seemed as if it was controlled by something else."
"How'd you know that?"
"Its eyes, I could see, and feel, some sort of string attached to him. It was severed when I removed its head."
"So a zombie controlled by some magic."
"The Indagator nodded. "The question is, who's controlling them, and why."
"Good questions." The fox paused. "How are zombies made exactly?" The vixen inquired, curious.
"Easily." Amanda paused for a moment, then stood back up. "To make a zombie, you need a freshly made corpse, not older than a day. Then, you need the equation of animus. Inscribe it into a circle of unlife, then with a little bit of energy, you've got yourself a zombie."
"If it's that easy, then why are there so few zombies to begin with?"
"While making a zombie is easy, controlling them is near impossible."
"How do you kill one then?"
"Weapon inscribed with the equation of banishment, combined with the circle of life."
"Equations? Circles?" The fox seemed confused. "What do you mean by that?"
"A lecture forlater. For now, let's head further into the town." The ridiculous horsewoman stepped into her Jeep, causing it to buckle beneath her weight. "Come on."
"What about the corpse?"
"Forget it; there will likely be more."
"Oh, great." The fox complained, then jumped in the car with the Indagator.
Amanda drove for another 20 minutes until they reached the entrance of a small village. It was left in a state of disrepair. The buildings were weathered as the wood showed clear signs of rain damage. Their windows, which had once kept out dirt and insects, now had a fine layer of dust over them. While others ranged from chipped to completely broken. A dirt road ran through the village, with rusted trucks, cars, and tractors parked by the dirty buildings.
A lone light pole was propped in the middle, ominously flickering as moths fluttered around it. Some of the doors creaked ominously as the bitter wind swept through the town. It was completely empty. Yet, several eerie gazes were present, lurking in the shadows. Being the monster hunter she was, Amanda could feel and locate with limited accuracy, ominous presences tucked away in every corner.
"Angela."
"Yeah?" The fox was terrified as the creepy environment lay over her like a cold blanket.
"Cover me; I need to get my gear on." The Indagator went around back; after she had parked the car, she started to undress. Banging doors, squeaky hinges, bitter winds, and Amanda's rumbling assets were the only sounds penetrating the haunting silence. On full alert, Amanda quickly slipped out of her cloak and casual bodysuit, exposing her naked figure. As per usual, she struggled to don her kevlar bodysuit. Her asset's continuous growth over the week renderedits tailor-made size obsolete.
She made a mental note to get it adjusted later. After much strife, she finally slipped into her armored bodysuit. Her drum-tight assets rebelled against the woefully undersized bodysuit, threatening to rip it to shreds. _I'll have to be careful not to burst out of this._Next, she peered at the titanium plates meant for her torso. She attempted to put them on, only for them not to fit her. Placing it back, she decided to equip the metal plating around her arms and legs.
Finally, she equipped her holsters on her wide hips, stuffing her large pistols inside but not before checking the magazine which spelled "APCBC" in gold lettering. _It should be enough._With a swing over her broad shoulders, she equipped her scabbard and giant rifle. Complete with five ammo canisters on her back. Flourishing her cloak, she clasped it shut and slammed the trunk of the car, hiding away a metal case.
By the time Amanda returned to the fox, her legs were trembling, her shoulders tense as she held her gun up, frantically searching the area.
"Angela!" She called out.
The fox whipped around, trembling, as she nearly shot the Indagator. "Holy shit Amanda, don't do that!"
"Looking around like a crack addict isn't going to help you. Why are you so terrified?"
"I feel like something's watching us. It's putting me on edge."
"Aren't you always watched at the office?"
"No! That's nothing like this. The environment, eerie silence, and dilapidated town make me feel as if something is very wrong here."
"That's why we're here. Now put it away." Amanda motioned to the vixen's pistol. "I don't want to be shot today."
Carefully the fox lowered her pistol. "All right, Sherlock, where the hell do we start?"
"There." The Indagator motioned to a boarded-up, two-story farmhouse.
"Why?"
"Badge vibrates more from that direction."
"That's not a good enough reason!"
"Have any other ideas?"
"No."
"Then shut up and follow me."
Annoyed, the Indagator led the fox toward the eerie house. Approaching the house, another problem dawned on her.
"I need to head back to the car."
"What for?"
"My weight would have me fall through the floor."
"Make it quick then; I don't want to be left all alone here."
Back at her car, Amanda reached into the trunk and pulled out a pair of horseshoes. While her cloak hid her tremendous assets, it did not change them whatsoever. Therefore, she was unable to completely bend over to tend to her hooves. Luckily for the horsewoman, she had another method. She stood one on a leg and pulled the other against her bubbly rear. While it was considerably large, it paled in comparison to the rest of her.
Quickly, she rested her hoof on her rear as she bent backward with the appropriate tools and began to remove her horseshoe. Afterward, she carefully inserted the horseshoe she had gotten. Atop, it had an equation and a runic circle. Amanda knew what it did. Its sole purpose was to displace her weight in a large circle and make her as weighty as the average, albeit heavy, anthro.
She repeated the steps again, switching out her other horseshoe. Generally, the Indagator didn't like wearing them. As she suddenly became much easier to knock over. Usually, this would not be an issue for any normal anthro, as their mass wasn't anywhere near her own of one-hundred metric tons. If she was launched with any significant force, the impact could quickly turn lethal.
With her horseshoes slipped on, the horse made her way back to the fox.
"Let's go." Kicking the door open has proven more challenging than usual. She led the fox inside. Again the Indagator found herself crouching over, thankful for her cloak. With her new horseshoes, she also found herself grateful for not falling through the floor. Amanda followed her badge, paying close attention to how much it vibrated. It led her up the stairs, where she found herself capable of standing up more. Unfortunately, her stoop returned as she made her way to the second floor.
It was a long, wide hallway with two doors on either side and a few more toward the back. Pictures of landscape and family hung on the walls. The eerie silence was only broken by the squeaky flooring and the slosh and churn of the Indagator's tremendous assets with every step. Her badge, placed in a lanyard around her neck, led her to a door on her right.
Silently, the Indagator unsheathed her sword. Amanda knew she was at a disadvantage with her reduced weight and gigantic height. Therefore, she found herself especially careful when she opened the door. It creaked open to unveil a corpse hanging from the ceiling fan by a noose, and a black outline, with a twitching head standing just before it.
Her badge vibrated intensely in the presence of a ghost. Instantaneously the spirit turned around. Its twitching head and solid gold orbs for eyes burned into her. _Shit._The ghost screamed and ran at her with a blistering speed no anthro was capable of. Narrowly she avoided the ghost's attack, careful of her movements. With an unnatural, rapid movement across the floor, the spirit went after her again.
She stepped aside, scratching the back of her neck against the ceiling, delivering a lethal blow across its ethereal back. Her sword runes glowed a bright yellow as the ghost let out a horrendous, ear-piercing screech and faded into a pile of glowing goop.
"What the hell was that noise?!" The fox yelled out.
"A ghost." She shouted in response, unphased. She placed a hand over the back of her neck to find a few splinters and small amounts of blood. She swore, cursing the house for its tiny nature.
"A ghost?!?!" The fox sounded terrified. "What the hell am I supposed to do against that?!"
"Die." The horse bluntly answered.
"I'm going to you!" The fox responded, worried.
The Indagator sighed as she bent down to examine the goop. Grabbing a nearby poker, she poked the goop to find nothing special about it.Just your standard ectoplasm.
"Amanda!" The fox breathed heavily.
"Why are you out of breath? Did you run up here?"
"Yes! Those zombies from earlier are gathering outside."
"What?!" Amanda shot up, smacking her head against the ceiling. She swore. Then made her way to the nearest front-facing window in another room. Where she saw a group of zombie-like anthros aimlessly wandering around. _Great._Walking back toward the ghost room, she watched the door slam shut in front of her, the fox still inside.
"Amanda! The doors locked me inside!" The fox was terrified as her voice trembled. "Help me! Please!"
In a split second, she kicked the door open and out the window. To find the fox, in a fetal position, cowering in a corner, terrified of the approaching figure.
"Hey, asshole!" The figure's twitchy head snapped onto the Indagator. "Fuck off!" Throwing her sword like a spear, she impaled the ghost's head, nailing him to the wall. Its runes glowed brightly again as the spirit let out another horrifying scream and turned into a pile of goo running down the wall. She took a moment to catch her breath, not from physical extrusion but from fear of losing the fox.
Angela looked up at the Indagator and her blade embedded in the wall. She heaved out a sigh and laid against the wall.
"I thought I was going to die."
"Not on my damn watch." Amanda's voice was stern but determined. "I'm not gonna lose you or anyone. I'll make sure of that."
The fox looked up at Amanda and smiled. "Thank you."
