A large wedge shaped vehicle rumbles up the interstate with a satellite radome on the roof to pick up television and radio as the solar panels keeps the wheels rolling. Red lightning bolts mark the sides and the rear but other than that the militarized recreational vehicle is unmarked. Inside the vehicle is a small garage for a motorcycle as well as a kitchen and bedroom as well as a cozy living quarters all in black and red like the outside and its driver.
The proud owner of this mobile paramilitary headquarters is a human-animal hybrid currently driving the new Plum Vagabond is a black furred dog with red hair and a red raccoon's mask and red tiger striped markings on his body that can be seen but not his eyes which are hidden behind a sweeping piece of chrome over his eyes. He is dressed in wastelander body armor that covers and protects his body usually from head to foot but he has his helmet off right now. His personally integrated data management accessory is interacting with the on board computer in more ways than one.
Hyper reality screens allow him to control the vehicle from anywhere in the interior but he is seated in what is traditional the control cabin for the view it affords. The PIDMA is also using the internal speakers of the vehicle to broadcast the industrial music of Angelspit as he drives the thing. Just because he can, he also has his web browser open so he do a little surfing as he gets an instant messenger from a cat he knows.

BlitzAKrieger: I think I may have talked Seiko into flying in for the weekend.

To say that Blitz is not happy is putting it mildly as he lowers the ramp on the back of his RV and takes the motorcycle out for a spin. Kodyax and Aurora take the booth next to Blitz as Keiko takes the other side of the booth the dog is sitting in. "It's mine," Blitz says. "You know that incident in Atlantic City where OGRE took several Kiboshi execs hostage?"
"Yeah, some ronin managed to kill enough of them that they had to retreat," Kodyax says with a smirk. "I take it that was you?"
"Yeah, Seiko called me in for some fun when it all went down," Blitz admits, "I did it discreetly with my powers. My guns were checked in with the front desk."
"So the Vagabond was a kind of 'thank you' gift? Or part of a hush money settlement?" Keiko asks point blank.
"A little of both," Blitz says with a smirk. "Seiko is glad I have it for various reasons. Especially the autopilot feature."
"I'll just bet that comes in handy," Kodyax teases.
"I just got an email," Blitz and taps his inbox in his peripheral vision. "Seiko has been called to Chiba and can't make it."
"I'd say lucky kitty, but I know her family is not happy with her choosing to become a chimera." Keiko says.
"I'm going to put my bike away and then get in line for pre-reg," Blitz announces.
"We'll be with you in a few, Blitz." Kodyax promises.
The trip back to the RV is uneventful which almost worries Blitz as he knows he needs to leave his guns in his vehicle for the duration of the convention. Pre-Registration is a bit of a logistical nightmare as humans and chimeras line up as the staff tells them to and then have to get in different lines when there is a mix up. But once things get straightened out things progress smoothly and the firm limit of two thousand attendees, up from the original limit of fifteen hundred set in 2011, is dominated by chimeras who comprise a full sixty percent of all attendees this year.
While the hotel lost his registration, the convention of Fur Fright did not and Blitz gets all the perks of being a Cassanova Frankensponor of Fur Fright including his name in the conbook. Of course it appears as Blitz A. Krieger and not his full name of Blitz Adolf Krieger but there are some folks even in this modern day and age that have a problem with anyone named Adolf due to some lunatic in the 20th century. After breakfast comes opening ceremonies and along with the guests of honor, an illustrator and a scientist who was involved in creating the process of making chimeras, the attending guest of honor ends up being Blitz. Blitz accepts the honor in his usual battle armor of black and red with helmet that he takes off for the delight of the crowd. Moreau von Frankenstein bows to the chimera as he admires the dog as a master sculptor admires his handiwork.
Blitz poses for pictures both with and without his helmet on as he gives a brief synopsis of his life. Moreau is very pleased with how he turned out and takes copious notes on what abilities Blitz has developed. A caravan of hearses, some of them looking more industrial in terms of the sheer number of corpses they can carry parade past the hotel all bearing the Necessary Evil Cemetery Relocation Overhaul Service Incorporated Logo of a coffin on wheels with a skeleton for driver. It is a dark and stormy night as they pass by on that lonely stretch of road until lightning randomly strikes the vehicles and causes a massive pile up right in front of the driveway to the hotel. Most of the drivers are killed by the crash or the electricity but those still alive are trapped and in fear for what will happen next.
Human corpses reanimate as zombies and eat the human survivors of the car crash first and then start walking towards the hotel. Blitz is fucking a cute human girl in his RV in the back when he gets a text from Keiko urging him to get his tail out of bed. He finishes with the girl, who is a fellow congoer and propositioned him for the night and then gets dressed in his armor to go see what Keiko was so upset about.
The sight of zombies milling about the parking lot irks Blitz no end as he growls at nobody in particular as his hands become charged with red lightning. Some of the zombies shuffle over in his general direction and Blitz flings bolts of the same red lightning charging his hands. Head shots work best but no matter what the brain does get fried and causes the zombie to collapse when it does get reduced to ash by the psychic attack that Blitz initiates.
For a brief moment, Blitz considers using telekinesis on the cars to run them over but thinks better of it as he does not want to wreck the vehicles of his fellow attendees. However he considers the heavy planters and trashcans are fair game and as he sends them hurtling about and into the zombies. Eventually Blitz gets on the bright idea of picking one zombie up with his telekinetic ability and using it to bash the others until he gets too fatigued.
The efforts of the dog buy the lupursyn, the folf and the rabbit enough time to get to Kody's SUV and take out weapons. Kodyax insists on hand weapons and not firearms for other two for much the same reasons Blitz didn't use cars to bash the zombies. Keiko pouts but takes out a pair of tiger hook swords while Aurora takes out a whip and Kodyax takes out his fully charged, solar powered chain sword.
Blitz can feel himself starting to get woozy and goes back to his RV to rest awhile and re-gather his strength. "Why do I get the impression that right now, if you could be here where I am physically you would," Blitz speculates as he holds Seiko close to himself.
"Attending a convention of Furry/Kemono enthusiasts is exactly what I need right now at least among the furry crowd I'd have folks that would be at least somewhat pleasant to deal with." Seiko admits and then buries her virtual face in Blitz's virtual chest. "I'm getting sick and tired of being treated like a Gods-Damned child. I bring in as much as anyone else in my family but because I chose to go neko I'm a freak and an outcast. Most of them are business prospects he will follow up on after the convention is over as well as one from the Convention staff on what is to be expected of him as attending guest of honor. Security sends him an email asking what happened in the parking lot that is also addressed to Kodyax, Keiko and Aurora.
Blitz gives his account of what he saw as the Global News Matrix sends him an inquiry that Blitz summarily ignores. He does not have the time nor the patience to deal with corporate news like the GNM. After he has satisfied his curiosity, Blitz logs off and gets some sleep.
Saturday morning finds him in the hotel at a cartoon panel showing ancient 20th century animation that is almost laughable now save that Blitz and a few of the other chimeras attending, Kodyax, Keiko and Aurora among them, get some ideas for retooling their avatars based on a cartoon based on a SEGA franchise. Blitz is especially intrigued as Seiko has some stock in the company of gaming software that eventually is part of a few MMORPGs that exist in their day and age. He dimly remembers her talking about later cartoons that helped shape her interest in becoming what she is right now.
Blitz commissions some pieces of art of himself from a few illustrators including a couple of racy pieces of him and Seiko. He also has some badges done of him before picking up hyper reality books from the last century including a few short story collections of Michael Schell who is no longer around but his stories continue to entertain the masses long after his passing. In the game room humans and chimeras sit around tables and play virtual table top games as well as well as play virtual video games, all by virtue of their PIDMAs.
The last thing Blitz does that night is attending a rave where the music is pulsing and the lightshows are amazing. Hyper reality objects float about the room; some being rather static while others are customized to react to whatever song is being played by the DJ. A few of the objects are interactive and engage the viewer encouraging a kind of Disco Dance Revolutions going on up and down the dance floor.
Blitz goes to be alone in the physical world but meets with Seiko in the virtual world of the ocean, what most folks call the internet in 2112. She is dressed in a traditional kimono when he first sees her where as he has his normal armor. Undressing can be a simple enough affair but tonight Seiko makes a show of it, strip teasing Blitz to get him virtually all hot and bothered.
A proximity alert goes off in the RV that takes Blitz rudely out of his trance like state with a stiffy as Seiko had already exposed her bosom to him virtually. Zombies have returned for round 2 and Blitz is beyond angry as he gets out the tetsubo Seiko gave him once and uses it like an oversized baseball bat to start swinging for the fences. While news choppers report a sea of zombies, there only about 20 zombies per guest at the convention so the chimeras come out in force and take care of the problem in record time.
Somebody starts broadcasting Michael Jackson's "Thriller" which actually juices the chimeras so that by the end of the Vincent Price voice over the zombies have actually been dealt with. The chimeras give themselves a high five and go to bed. Seiko is initially incensed but then sees what happens on the news and giggles as she forgives Blitz for not returning to her.
Blitz attends more panels on Sunday and enjoys each and everyone, including the spirituality courses where the discussion actually gets rather enlightening for those that attend. Chimeras are not front loaded with any religious prolictivities although many of the original scientists that creative wanted to lean them towards atheism. Many humans view chimeras as a kind of atavistic backlash so when they pick up on the Pagan vibe and find it more to their liking than Christianity, Judaism and Islamic faiths few people batted an eye although the heads of the big three railed against this new wave of heretics that threaten to overwhelm and diminish the power they have over the masses.
Closing ceremonies are rather depressing for the chimeras as another convention convenes for the year. A few gatherings strike up where various chimeras exchange information so they can keep in touch throughout the year. Blitz, Kodyax, Keiko and Aurora roll out of Cromwell for Philadelphia with the convention over although Blitz gets a call from Seiko to have him pick her up at the airport when he gets back to Philly.
