New Year's Kiss
New Year's Kiss by Rahne Kallon

I love moments like this. Moments where Ian and I get to just lay in bed and enjoy each other's company. Whether we're having sex, snuggling or just talking, it's always nice. It's moments like these where I feel particularly waggy when I'm with him. Especially on New Years, which is one of our favourite holidays. Well, New Year's Eve, I mean.
I glance over to him, admiring the black and white fur of his naked body as he stares up at the ceiling. He really is one gorgeous Border Collie.
He smirks at me. "All that oogling and you haven't even fucked me yet."
I giggle a bit. "I'm allowed to admire the scenery."
He chuckles and turns to face me. "I'm really glad you managed to get away from your folks. I didn't think I'd get to see my Golden Retriever tonight."
"I don't think anything could have kept me from spending New Years with you." My tail happily whacks the bed as I look at him. He moves closer to me and we kiss. There's always something special about kissing another dog; having similar tongues and muzzles gives that a natural common ground and familiarity that I wouldn't get from kissing a cat or anything else. And with Ian, it's always beautiful.
"Thank you," he whispers when our muzzles part. All the while my tail is still wagging and I've probably got a goofy happy look on my face. His laugh tells me I do and he settles casually onto his back again. I go right back to admiring him, telling myself how lucky I am to have him as a boyfriend.
"By the way, I never asked; you got any New Year's resolutions?"
"Hmm." His head wavers a bit. "I'd love to do a graphic novel or a comic. You know, maybe like, illustrate something from Nathan Taylor or Alley Robin. I'd love to see my art showcased like that."
I nod slowly. "Sounds like a good goal."
He turns to look at me again. "What about you?"
"I've got a couple resolutions." I pause and take a deep breath, glancing down at the pillows in between us. "But more than anything, I want to be a better boyfriend."
"What?" Ian suddenly sits up and looks at me puzzled. "What are you talking about? You're a wonderful boyfriend..."
I shake my head a bit with a small smile. "There's a lot of things I could do better."
"Jamie..."
I lay back and sigh. "Sometimes I kinda take you for granted. You do so much for me and sometimes you go to great lengths to make me happy, whether it be taking me out or buying me something, or even just drawing me something. And you're a better artist than me. Sometimes I don't feel I can measure up to how..." I have to pause, looking down again as I feel myself tearing up a bit. "How sweet you are, you know?"
"You can't think that," he says in disbelief.
"Sometimes I don't think I've done enough to...reciprocate, I guess." I take another deep breath, closing my eyes.
I feel him climbing on top of me and he kisses my nose. "You don't have to feel that way, Jamie." I sigh again when I open my eyes to see his smiling face. "It's not a competition, you silly mutt," he says, wiping my eyes. "I do all those things, simply because I want to. I want to make you happy, I want to see you smile. I'm already happy just being with you." He licks my cheek. "And if you want the truth, nothing makes me happier than spending New Years with you. Nothing."
I gaze at those bright blue pools of his, trying to recover from my silent crying. "You really mean that?"
He wipes my eyes one more time. "I do."
Hearing him say that, along with his fingers drying my eyes, makes me to smile again. And then he kisses me again; he tilts his head, making sure I feel every long stroke of his canine tongue. I bring my arms around him as he settles on top of me, rewarding me with a gentle moan. And when he breaks the kiss, he smiles and runs a paw through my bangs. I give a softer sigh this time, just looking at him. "Well. I'm still going to be a better boyfriend. Do all the things you do for me." I start wagging again.
He chuckles quietly, wagging on top of me. "Why when I just said you don't have to?"
I give him a wider smile. "Simply because I want to."
He laughs at me. "Fair enough."
Suddenly, we hear a bunch of fireworks going off at once, far more than the one or two at a time we've heard for the past half hour. We both look at the clock on my dresser, which reads twelve o' clock exactly.
New Years.
We smile at each other once more. "You wanna seal the deal with a New Year's Kiss?"
"I can't think of anything better," I tell him as we lock muzzles for one long and passionate New Year's Kiss.
