From Ice Cream to "Topping" - Charlie's Cherry
Chapter 1
Immediately following the early morning beating I received at the hands of my father thanks to his binge on tasteless alcohol, I eagerly headed out from my home to meet up with Ms. Otelo. I left that day hoping that the remainder of which would be better than how started off; the several applications of bandages I had to administer a sore reminder I didn't have to try hard to achieve as much.
"Well here's hoping anyway." I sighed out loud as I closed the screen door to my parents place behind me, the screeching sound that came from the hinges stabbing at my ears as I did.
I took a breath of fresh air as I took in the atmosphere around me, the sounds of normal everyday suburban life a welcome change from the hell I just stepped out of; the difference as noticeable to me as day and night. I jumped off the porch with a slight hope in my leap, feeling like somehow today would turn out better than ever; the energy I had genuine and inspired, although where it was coming from I really couldn't say.
I reached into my backpack quickly before slinging it over my shoulder and took out my baseball cap to help to defend against the afternoon shine as I eagerly started my trek down the neighborhood block which conveniently for me connected to the main road that lead towards the city; the distance to which would only be impressive from a child's perspective.
"Stupid old man, you could have at least offered to drop me off." I couldn't help but groan at the thought of walking as I stared at my father's car as I departed, secretly wishing it would burst into flames if I focused hard enough. My mind could have wandered then to even darker places I knew, but quickly I let my anger subside as I immediately felt the sun's hot summertime rays beating down against me; the temperature resting at would had to have been well over ninety degrees plus.
Unwelcome and complementing the hot air, the heat of the sidewalk burned against my paw pads with every step as well, but I just shrugged it off and pressed on knowing if I stopped to rest that's when it would really start to hurt. It was a discomfort yeah, but I was all too familiar with it anyway since I was informed a long time ago that we had no money for a bicycle. "Yet you always have money for beer though huh?!"
After taking some time to adjust to the temperature I started to move along at a stronger faster pace, dashing across intersections and sprinting to catch the next available signal when possible. I was driven by my eagerness to make some money, even if ultimately it was going to be taken from me when I got back home. "At least I can say I made something of myself for the day."
I stared in awe as the buildings of the city started coming closer into view, the several stories tall office structures looming over me as I made my way down the streets they overshadowed. People on the sidewalk would hustle past me and shout profanities about me being in their way, but I didn't care. I just stood in admiration of the architectures, eager to design my own professionally someday; if I even get admitted into college what with my family's income consisting of food stamps and the sales from ripping and burning DVD's.
"Wow; Geez; Ok now that's just cruel!" I would often stop and say as I passed through the district while doing some window shopping; all the nice expensive clothes and delicious foods kept behind thick walls of glass just teasing me as I continued on. I could almost always catch a whiff of that new clothes smell as customers left the stores smiling with bags of product in their hands; me not even able to reach into my pockets and buy a candy bar if I wanted.
I was on a mission though, so I put the thoughts of luxuries aside and hurried along to Ms. Otelo's panaderia, a baked good's cafe I was always impressed by whenever I had went there with my grandmother when I was younger, before she passed away. It was located right in the heart of the city; although by smell alone you could blindly walk into it without realizing that you did.
After arriving at my destination, I quietly pushed open the lattice designed entrance and made my inside, instantly smelling fresh baked pies and cookies wafting in the air from the ovens behind the register. I set my bag down on a nearby stool and took off my cap before walking over to the counter and hitting the call bell softly, trying hard not to disturb the people eating in the main restaurant area as I waited for Ms. Otelo.
As I looked around and took in the sights, I was always in awe of what it all was; a place meant to make people happy, a destination for both the mind to rest and the soul to quiet. To hear tell of it from me you would think I'd believe it were a heaven on earth, and to me it was.
"Charles Fair, is that you?" I heard a kindly older voice say from behind as I was immediately greeted by the owner of the shop; Esther Otelo. She was an elderly polar bear for whom time you could tell had favored considerably by both her gait and the way she conducted her orchestra of sweet delicious goodies around as she passed out free samples; my favorite part about coming here of course.
"Hello Ms. Otelo. It's nice to see you're still getting around well enough." I said as I approached her for a hug, she the type of person that even if you didn't offer you'd get one anyway.
"And you're still the sweet young pup I remember so well. It's been a dogs age since I last seen you boy. I saved you your favorite seat in the corner there if you'd like to take a load off before you start helping me out." She said as she pointed in the direction of the booth furthest in the back of the restaurant, my mind instantly remembering warm memories of days spent here with my Grandma in that chair; days passed I knew I'd never be lucky enough to experience again. Although, my imagination did wonder to that hopeful day I'd get to share that same seat with someone I loved once more.
"Well that's awful kind of you, but I seem to be on nothing but a series fetch quests today so perhaps another time." I could tell she was a little sad by me rejecting her offer, but in honesty I just didn't wanna sit over there by myself.
"Well that's alright because I have two more treats for you today anyway. Why don't you follow me to the back and I'll show you what I need help with." The elder bear said as she pointed the way to the kitchen prep area, me just a little more than giddy to be privileged enough to walk into the back and hopefully get my paws covered in something delicious.
Following what could only be described as a magical day spent with Ms. Otelo, ranging from helping her come up with new fusions of jam to fill a pastry with to some light chores of cleaning out the ovens and storeroom, she paid me immediately in full what she promised my father she would, but snuck in a bit more into my backpack as I prepared to leave; myself none the wiser of the extra twenty dollars until later when I really needed it.
"Well that was a treat. Now Charles you be good wolf." She said as followed me to the entrance and out on to the avenue, the weather outside now thankfully cooling down as storm clouds moved over the city above.
"I will Ms. Otelo, and you keep saving me that seat okay. I promise I'll find someone to bring back here with me someday." I gave the woman a big hug in response, the feel of it almost like I was back in my grandma's arms again.
"Goodness how you've grown. It's been so long since I've seen you. Please take care of yourself sweetie; I wanna see you back here with a true smile again someday alright." I looked at her questionably after she finished speaking, wondering what she had meant but let the confusion pass as she handed me a package of assorted baked treats and walked back inside just as quickly.
"Thanks grandma. I promise I'll come back with a real smile someday." I thought to myself as I hoisted my backpack over my shoulder and made my way to the nearest bus-stop I could find, a crowd of maybe four or five hanging around the area I could see as I neared. I had thought of walking back home right away, but remembered then I wouldn't be allowed inside without stopping by Uncle Mike's for my father's alcohol first.
The space already taken up by a couple making out, I skipped the waiting bench and instead hid on the backside woodwork that made up the terminal as the clouds above started to thunder. I smiled as I thought about the happy day I had; an experience I rarely knew I could have, or rather thought I was allowed.
I took a peak into the bag Ms. Otelo gave me as I waited for the bus to arrive and was gleefully surprised to find that the confection I had helped her create earlier was already prepared and ready to eat; the creamy cherry almond raspberry center dripping from it's cruller like interior. "Oh now I can die happy I think!"
I was so happy then, lost in my own little thoughts as I took a bite of the snack, blissfully naïve of the world around me as I moaned in delight. I was in paradise and nothing could ruin the feeling... Only something did, and I've never told anyone before but I'll tell you.
What happened more quickly than I care to remember back then, I dropped the bag of sweets from my paws as I felt the weight of someone's hand cover my mouth as they pulled me backwards into the alleyway, the shadows of which hid us perfectly from possible help; the nearby bus patrons and pedestrians totally unaware or apathetic to my trouble.
"Alright kid, just hand over your money and you can go; this doesn't have to be difficult." The robber demanded as he shoved me backwards into a brick wall, the force of which made me fall and slam hard against a nearby trashcan. I tried to get a good luck at his face then as I faced toward him, but to my dismay he kept it hidden smartly under a ski mask.
Worst of it all, his physique gave little to no indication of age or species of animal he was; the sound of his rough voice all I could really determine. I remember thinking back then "I'm being mugged by a ghost."
"Shit that was loud... dammit!" He angrily muttered as he pulled me back up roughly to my feet. "Scream and you're dead. Now hurry up. Don't fuck with me here!"
I panicked as I tried to catch my breath, knowing that if I didn't comply with his commands that he'd kill me; the hunger for money in his eyes as desperate as my own to escape the situation. "Okay I'll get it, please don't hurt me." I reached into all my pockets as I searched and rushed, even though I knew I always kept my wallet on the left front compartment of my pants; all common sense now escaping me thanks to terror.
"C'mon kid you're taking too long fuck!" He moaned as he pulled me into him and grabbed for both my arms, keeping them restrained as he used his spare hand and reached into my pockets himself. I could feel his roughness as he grouped around, constantly grabbing at the more tender parts of my thighs as he worked. "Wait a second... Kid, are you hard?!"
I couldn't help myself it seemed as his hand constantly brushed up against my cock, stroking my young eagerness into submission as he searched my person. I knew it was wrong of me given the situation, but this was after all the first time someone had touched me there (though I do often choose not to remember it.)
"Shit you some kind of faggot or what?" I shook my head no in protest as the robber removed his paw from my pocket and placed it onto my zipper. "Well guess I get to have dinner and a show today."
I wanted to scream as he pulled down on my fly, the clicks of which indicated he was really going through with it, him all the while licking his muzzle behind me in delight. I bucked against him of course, struggling to break free of his iron grip, but found myself coming up short as he reached into the new hole in my pants and hovered around above my underwear.
"Please don't. Just take my money." I never wanted my first experience to be like this, but what could I do being a young as I was. I just started to cry as his fingers rimmed around the top part of my boxers, ready to pull them down at any moment.
"Stop crying kid, I want to enjoy this." He said as he undid the button holding up my pants, me closing my eyes hoping someone would come help me now.
"Hey asshole; think you can handle me too!" I almost broke my neck turning to hear someone behind as a shadow high above us yelled, descending slowly from high atop the nearest building straight into the backside of the robber. I took advantage of the moment of confusion to break free from the mugger, narrowly escaping before the new person landed directly on top of him, making him howl out in pain as I heard several bones crack.
"FUCK!!!!" The robber cried out in pain as the figure rose from the broken man, curiously dressed in what almost looked like a superhero costume if you could believe such a thing. I started to back away from him too knowing not his intentions either but was stopped when he turned around, the shine of eyes meeting mine through his mask he wore.
"Wait... Are ya okay?" He asked me as he approached slowly, arms outstretched in customary unarmed fashion so I could see he wasn't planning anything. "Man that was close; never thought I'd get to do that ever!" The hero laughed as he looked back at the mugger, him still whining in pain as he crawled away from us into the darker part of the alley; the end of which I found out later lead straight to the nearest police station.
I struggled to find the words to thank him properly as he got closer, grabbing at the back of mask and removing it slowly as he did, exposing his true face when we were at arms length away. To my surprise I was met by a young polar bear, probably no older than I was as he stuck out his paw and grinned like a madman, waiting for me to shake his hand in return. "Well hey; never thought playing superhero would actually help save someone someday. Although if I had failed that jump, man that would have sucked." He said, still smiling.
"Umm..." I really couldn't grasp the words I wanted to say; I mean how often would you know what to say to a real life superhero?
"Kind of quiet aren't cha? Well that's cool." He said as he leaned down and picked up my wallet for me, both of which neither me nor the mugger noticed had fallen out when I had fallen over before. "Well here ya go." He said as he held it out for me to grab.
"Thank... you." I finally managed to squeak out as I took my property back into my hands and reached down towards my pockets to put it back, instantly realizing that my pants had fallen down during the whole situation. "Shit!"
"Hehe you're funny! I like ya." He said as he leaned forward. "Still a little excited I see." He said as he observed me, my cock still hard from the rubbing and the rescue. I quickly leaned over and pulled up my clothes; embarrassed to no end that two people had already managed to see me half naked today. "Well now hey don't ya be getting too shy. I gotta change out of these clothes myself." He said.
Before I could even protest him changing in front of me he pulled off the upper torso to his costume, exposing his bare furry chest to me as he reached into a nearby dumpster and pulled out what looked like a large brown bag. "Gotta keep my identity secret ya know." He said as he pulled several articles of clothing and a backpack from the bag.
"But you took off your mask in front of me!" I was puzzled by the young bear's logic as he slid on his shirt, decaled with a band I was quite familiar with.
"Hmm guess ya right, messed that one up didn't I?" I tried to look away shyly as he began to slide off his leotard pants as he laughed, but couldn't help keep my eyes from glaring in his direction as my head stretched the other way.
"Umm maybe I should leave." I thought as I snapped back to reality; going from being mugged to having my own personal strip show.
"Na, stick with me for a minute so we can catch the bus together." He said as he slid on his jeans finally, looking like a completely normal geek like myself when he was all done getting ready; the finishing touch being his overly comical sized glasses with no lenses in them. "Really hides my identity huh?"
Not that I really ever understood how I escaped such a bad situation that day, but I do remember just beginning to laugh at this bear; his silly mannerisms too much not to smile at.
"There, ya cracked a smile. I'm glad." He beamed again as he extended his paw forward a second time. "Name's Derek. What's yours?"
"Charlie." I smiled strong as our paws met, the warmth of his soft paw pads transferring to my own as the clouds above us burst open, rain starting to pour down slowly as we both ran to the bus stop; hopefully heading in the same direction for a while.
I'm barely done with my first half of the day and I've tasted perfection, been mugged, and met a superhero... Let's see what happens next...
