Hale's friends continue to put their plan into action, but is it already too late to escape from the doomed hotel?

Project Raven - Priority Override

A flash of thunder signaled yet another around of storms as Bryan, Lark, and Slyph traveled all the way down to the lobby, which was surprisingly empty as they made their way towards the security office. Once they got to the front desk though, they quickly realized why no one had decided to stick around. The rubber dragon that they had accidently transported with them was still there, his cock still completely erect and dribbling fluids against the glass. He had been joined by nearly three dozen others, including the now male red rubber fox that he had converted in the van pawing against the door and surrounding entryway.

"That's a creepy scene." Slyph stated as they moved towards the security office. It was only a few doors behind the vacant reception desk, the three of them huddling around as Lark punched in his security access code. They could still hear the creatures pounding on the glass, their attempts renewed by their presence as the door beeped and flashed a green light. Lark threw open the door and the three went inside, shutting out the disturbing scene behind them as they were surrounded by computer banks and monitors.

"There's no one here." Lark said as he picked up one of the half-drunk cups of coffee that were scattered about. "They probably got the call about the creatures and are trying to stop them."

It did not take long for the three to find the cabinet that contained the keys they needed, as well as nearly fifty others that they didn't. "Of course they would label their keys like that." Slyph said as he looked over the cryptic letter and number arrangement that accompanied each key. "We should have brought that security guard down here... Lark, do you know which key it would be?"

"Let's see..." Lark said as he looked over the rows of keys. "If I remember correctly then the top rows are for the hotels and other buildings, while the bottom ones are for the vehicles. That being said, I'm not sure exactly which one of the bottom keys is for the helicopter."

"I think we should just take them all." Bryan suggested, motioning up to the monitors where several of the camera monitors showed the rubber-suited monsters converting others and the panicking public that ran from them. "The situation is degrading quickly... and from the look of the casino, our other group may not even complete their task."

The two leopards looked at each other, then quickly grabbed one of the nearby duffels and shoveled all the keys from the board on it. The lights began to flicker as they zipped up the bag and gave it to Lark, who slung it over his shoulder. Only a few seconds later the electricity failed completely, the group hardly able to leave the door before they were plunged into darkness. Lark suddenly felt something cling onto him, but as he tried to push it away he found his fur brushed against fur instead of rubber like he feared he would have found.

"Slyph?" Lark whispered, feeling the other leopard press tightly against his chest as he struggled to try and find a way through the darkness. After almost a full minute the emergency track lights lit up, Bryan finding he had wondered about fifty feet ahead of the two felines. Once the lights were back on Slyph immediately disengaged from Lark's body, though his tail was still wrapped tightly around his leg.

"Sorry." Slyph replied, embarrassed. "Just took me by surprise is all."

Lark looked down at the other leopard incredulously. "Right... you know, there are many people who fear the darkness, and especially with what's hiding in it now I can't say-"

"Guys!" A sudden shout from Bryan snapped them both out of their conversation. "Less talking more running!" The three of them sprinted down the security access corridor, but as they double backed to the doors that they had entered their jaws dropped. The entire lobby area had become infested, rubber-clad creatures of all types either roaming through the empty room searching for prey or taking out their pent-up lusts on each other's bodies. It appeared to them as though they had not been noticed, quickly but quietly backing up behind the corner they had just turned.

"So much for that." Slyph gripped, his earlier terror ebbing away as a fresh problem caused his adrenaline to surge once more. "Now where do we go?"

"We can reach the emergency stairwell through the holding pens." Lark answered. "That whole area is for emergency personnel only, so all the doors would be locked and I doubt that any of those rubber creatures would be there. It's a pain in the tail to get to but I think it's our only shot at this point to rejoin the rest of the group. Come on, I'll lead the way."

The three quietly made their way through the labyrinth of hallways that made up the back of the hotel's lobby, passing by abandoned maid carts and ransacked offices. Luckily for them they encountered nothing else, until they came to the open door that contained the holding cells for security. The area was pitch black, save for one light near the top that only flickered to life occasionally. When the light did stay on for a few seconds though, the three men wished that it hadn't.

"This must be where they put those who they thought were fighting or causing trouble." Lark said as he saw the creatures trapped in the cell, their tentacles extending out towards them as they pressed their rubber-coated bodies against the bars that were holding them back. "Or just one of them had been infected and they got the rest... either way I don't think we can go this way."

"We have to." Bryan replied, looking back from the hallway they came from. "The loose ones have probably picked up our scent by now and are coming this way. Plus from the look of it those tentacles can't extend all the way to the center, I think if we stick to the middle then we can get through without being caught."

The other two knew that the husky was right, though they did not enjoy the idea. "Alright, I'll take the front, Sylph will be right behind me and then I want you to take point behind us since you have that weapon." Lark ordered. The two friends nodded, though he could see the obvious fear in the other leopard's eyes as he looked into the blackness of the holding cell hallway. "Let's move out then, wait a few seconds once I step it to make sure that nothing happens to me."

Sylph watched as Lark took a deep breath and stepped into the darkness, his form disappearing after the first few steps inside. The light flickered for the briefest of seconds, illuminating him and the tentacles that stretched out in vain to reach him. "It's alright, they can't reach." He called back. "Just make sure you're moving in a straight line down the middle of the hallway."

The husky nodded to Sylph as he continued to watch down the hallway they had come from, the leopard's hands shaking slightly as he took his first step into the darkness. He reached his hands out instinctually, feeling nothing but the open air as he could hear the wet slaps of the tentacles around him as they tried to reach for his body. A small whimper left his throat as he continued to move forward, his frightened mind screaming at him to return to the safety of the light. Once more a brief flicker of the light above them illuminated his path, seeing Lark in front with his hand outstretched while the monsters continued to try and get at them. But all too soon that tiny respite of safety was stolen from him, and he was once more plunged into an even deeper darkness than before.

Sylph was frozen as the darkness consumed his surroundings, paralyzed where he was by fear. He could hear the tentacles all around him, slapping wetly against the rubber soaked ground as they tried to reach him. His heart nearly jumped out of his chest as he felt something touch his hand, only to find that it was soft and furry like his. "Don't be afraid." He heard a soft voice in the darkness, almost tender as he felt himself get pulled forward.

"Lark." Slyph whispered back, feeling his arms wrap around his shoulders as they started to walk forward. "I... I don't know..."

"Just relax, I'll take lead." Lark spoke back as they started to take a step forward, Sylph feeling the other leopard's body right next to him as they moved towards the small outline of light that was the door of the emergency stairwell. "I promise I'll protect you."

Sylph could feel his overwhelming panic abated slightly as they continued to move, focusing on the warmth of the leopard next to him. It kept the memories from flooding back, the ravine that he had fallen into all those years ago and the darkness and cold that had surrounded him for two days while they searched for and rescued him. The experience had traumatized him until that day, doing everything he could to keep the blackness at bay. Now, faced with his fears, he was glad to have someone like Officer Lark right at his side.

"Only a couple more feet." Lark said reassuringly as they moved in tandem, keeping a firm grip on the other leopard. The officer was thankful to feel that Slyph had stopped shaking for the most part, trying to keep the other male calm. Behind him he could hear Bryan breathing hard as he brought up the rear, the three of them slowly going between the mess of tentacles and moans of the monsters that was between them.

After what felt like an eternity Sylph could feel the cold stone of the wall of the other side, the officer punching in the passcode into the nearby keypad. As the sounds of the rubberized creatures intensified he heard the buzz of the door, which remained locked as Sylph pulled on it. "What's going on?!" He shouted as he pulled angrily on the locked door. "Open it!"

"I'm trying to put in a passcode I was told twice by memory in the dark." Sylph replied as the keypad buzzed at him angrily a second time. "I'm going to have to wait for the lights to flicker on before I can do anything."

The three of them waited nervously in the darkness, looking up at the one remaining light bulb to flicker to life for even the briefest of seconds. The moaning and screeching around them had grown to a dull roar by this time, all of them wondering how long it would be before the noise would attracted those not in cages to their position. Finally the partially broken fluorescent tube came to life, Lark quickly turning around and punching the numbers into the keypad. It grew dark before he could finish, but a few seconds later there was a happy chirp from the door and the sound of metal moving inside the doorframe.

"That's it, let's go!" Lark said as Slyph yanked the door open. The leopard stumbled back in surprise from the sudden yielding of it, bumping in Bryan who slipped and fell on his back. In less than a second the tentacle of a huge lion had wrapped around his scale-covered neck, Slyph just able to grab his ankles before the creature could pull the husky back any further.

Lark took the bag full of keys and set it against the door to keep it open before pulling out his survival knife and moving forward to slash at the creature. Slyph pulled back as hard as he could as he tried to keep his friend from the monster, watching in the pool of light from the door as the other leopard moved in to cut the tentacle away. At the same time he reached for the gun that had fallen to the side when Bryan fell to the floor, though it was too far away for him to both grab it and keep hold of the husky.

Bryan gasped for air as the tentacle continued to tighten around his neck, his hands grabbing at it to try and loosen the grip on his windpipe. He could feel the tip trying to wiggle up his jaw to his throat, which at this stage would immediately doom him to being a rubber-suited creature like all the rest of them. Out of the corner of his eye he could see Lark dash in and plunge his blade into the thick rubber of the bright red tentacle, which only caused it to tighten further and him to gasp. The leopard was relentless though, as Slyph continued to hold him from his rubbery fate Lark slashed and stabbed at it, red liquid rubber spraying out from the gashes.

Finally the tentacle creature had enough and withdrew from the onslaught, Bryan taking a deep lungful of air as it released his neck. Both Lark and Sylph helped drag the half-conscious canine through the door, which quickly sealed shut behind them. Once the initial danger had passed the three quickly recovered from their ordeal, allowing themselves a few seconds to catch their breath. "Well you look like a bloody mess." Slyph said as he watched Lark pulled his rubber-coated shirt off and tossed it in the corner.

"This is going to be a nightmare to get out of my fur." Lark said before he patted the coughing Bryan on the back. "You alright Bryan?"

"Yeah..." Bryan replied, feeling the slightly crushed neck of his scalesuit. "Someone remind me to thank Dr. Marcovi for these things, I could feel it trying to dig it's tendrils into my neck... without the suit I probably would have been screwed. Thankfully everything is going to be alright now."

"Well, I wouldn't pop the champagne just let." Lark said as he looked up the middle of the stairwell, the flights of stairs stretching upwards at a seemingly infinite rate. "We've got over a hundred floors of stairs to cover and the possibility that when we'll arrive at nothing when we get there..."

Hale paced nervously as he and Loki waited in the room that housed the huge machine that had once been their primary escape plan. The security officer that was with them had gone into the adjacent hallway, checking on the door to see if the security countermeasures were off so they could start working on the helicopter. "You're going to wear a hole in the floor if you don't relax." Loki said as he watched the arctic wolf pass by him once more.

"Sorry, just nervous." Hale said as he went back over to the Tasmanian Tiger and tried to sit still once more. "It's just that they're all out there trying to do something that I suggested we do, I mean, for all we know those creatures got them and we're just sitting here waiting to be converted as well."

"Well... I suppose there are worse ways to go then turning into a sex-crazed rubber monster." Loki tried to joke, though the only thing he got out of Hale was a small smile that caused him to frown slightly. "I'm sure that they are perfectly fine Hale, you and your boyfriend will be reunited soon enough."

"I don't know why you keep calling him that." Hale said as he could feel himself blush. "We're just friends, and for all I know he's completely straight."

"Well alright then." Loki said as he placed a hand on Hale's artificially-scaled thigh. "If you truly believe that then I would like to try and fill the role you so desperately wanted him to."

Hale's mouth opened slightly in shock as he felt the other canine rub against his inner thigh, which caused him to shiver slightly in delight. "You... want to be my boyfriend?"

"I was going to ask you when we managed to get off this island." Loki confessed. "But I figured that since we're alone for a bit and there's no guarantee that we're going to get out of here unchanged I should ask now."

There was a pause as Hale looked into the golden eyes of the other male, who waited for him to give his answer. A knot began to form in his stomach as he faced a situation that he had not prepared for, someone putting him on the spot to start a relationship. The only time he had imagined such a thing was that Bryan would someday confess his undying love for him. "I... I don't know what to say." Hale finally stammered out, which only caused the Tasmanian Tiger to chuckle. "I'm not really in the mindset right now to make such a decision."

"Well just don't leave me hanging." Loki replied with a smile that was slightly on the sultry side as he slid over and rested against Hale's chest. "I know I'm not Bryan, but you deserve someone that can reciprocate the feelings that you have for them. Just... think about it, ok?"

Hale merely nodded, allowing the other male to rest his head on his shoulder as he contemplated what he had just said to him. There they were, surrounded by rubber-covered sex creatures, and now he had a possible relationship to think about? What Loki said made sense, but right now the only thing he wanted to do was get out of the building and save his friends. After that, he reasoned, he could give Loki's proposition some serious thought. As he sat there with his back against the machine he thought about Bryan, wondering where he was at that moment...

*****************************************

"Floor... seventy... two..." Bryan gasped as the three struggled to keep up their pace as they moved quickly up the stairs. Even though there was nothing chasing them they didn't want to lose their chance to leave because they tarried in the stairwell, although as they clung to the guard rails to keep themselves up they began to wonder if that was such a good idea. Lark seemed to be in the worst shape of them all, lagging behind as he seemed to struggle with every breath while they walked.

"Here, let me help you." Slyph said as he moved down towards him, grabbing his arm to help carry him but was quickly shoved away.

"I'm... fine..." Lark gasped, though he looked anything but as he continued to walk. "Just... gotta... keep... going..."

At this point Bryan stopped as well, the two friends looking at each other worriedly as their new compatriot continued to struggle in his tracks. "Lark... are you ok?" Sylph asked as he once more tried to approach him, though once again he was pushed back. "What happened?"

"Sorta... hoping... I... was... wrong..." Lark managed to say, his breathing growing wet as he looked up at Slyph with fearful eyes. "When... I was... stabbing... that tentacle... and... it sprayed me... I tasted... rubber..."

Bryan nearly leapt up the next two stairs as Sylph also backed away slightly, realizing what the security officer was saying to him. Lark clutched his chest and coughed, a thick blue liquid spraying out of his mouth and onto the stairs in front of him. Sylph felt his stomach tie up into a knot as he realized that his new friend didn't have much time left, no doubt the rubber inside his body had already assimilated a number of systems. "Take the keys... and get to the others..." Lark said before coughing once more, making the mistake of trying to cover his mouth with his hand and coating it in a thick layer of the rubbery substance.

"Lark, if you can hold on for just a little bit longer, Dr. Marcovi can help you." Sylph said as the other leopard got back on his feet. "He cured our friend Hale, I bet he could do the same to you."

Lark tried to laugh, choking slightly as more of the rubber came out of his mouth and dripped down his chest, where it stayed there. "Forty more floors..." he said, looking up the long stretch of stairs that still lay in front of them as the thick rubber began to dribble out of his nose and from the corner of his mouth. "Plus you know as soon as I turn I'm going to come after you two and convert you as well. Face it Slyph, I'm finished... and unless you want to break my heart by staying here and forcing me to make you into one of them, I suggest you leave."

"Lark..." Slyph said in a pleading tone as he tried to move closer once again, only to have a rubber-coated hand stop him in his tracks. "You have to at least try... we already lost one friend to this and I don't want to lose another. Just keep following us while you still can, if Dr. Marcovi can't cure you-"

"Alright, fine." Lark interrupted, letting out a slight groan as his pants began to tent. "Can't argue with a leopard in a speedo. I'll follow you without help, don't want to accidently infect you. Let's just get going."

Sylph gave him a relieved nod and started back up the stairs again, ignoring Bryan's look of concern as they moved up to the next flight. "Hey Sylph!" The two suddenly heard, looking back to see the mutated leopard still in the same spot as he was before, leaning heavily against the guardrail with a sad smile on his face and his hands rubbing his exposed, rubber-coated cock.. "Don't say I never protected you."

"Lark? LARK!" Sylph screamed as he watched the leopard tip himself over the rail, disappearing over the edge and down the stairwell. He felt the husky's hands grip his shoulders and pull him back as they heard his body fall. When it was apparent that nothing could be done to save him Sylph suddenly turned on Bryan and hit him hard on the chest.

"Ow! What was that for?!" Bryan shouted, rubbing the sore area as he looked down at his irate friend.

"He became infected saving you!" Slyph shouted back before passing the surprised husky and running up the stairs. Bryan was slightly shocked, he knew that Slyph was always protective of his friends and family but he didn't realize he had grown so attached to the officer. As he replayed the words that the leopard had screamed at him they burned like acid, realizing that they were true as he bounded up the stairs after him. He knew that those words, much like the image of Lark's transforming body going over that rail, would haunt him for quite some time.

Wordlessly they continued to climb up the stairs, Slyph fueled by anger as the two continued up the stairwell. He couldn't bear to tell him the real reason of why he was so upset, instead he focused on the priority of getting the keys to the others. For a while the only sounds in the abandoned area were their breathing as they made their way into the triple digit floors, the leopard still refusing to even look at the husky as they climbed. About ten floors before their goal, however, they both stopped as they heard a second noise.

As they both looked down the stairwell their eyes widened, a royal blue and gunmetal grey covered leopard racing up the stairs towards them. Its speed was undeniable, bounding up the floors as it looked at them hungrily, its eyes hidden behind a pearlescent visor. The two of them doubled their pace, a fresh surge of adrenaline coursing through their bodies, trying to outrace the former Lark.

"Almost there!" Bryan shouted as they rounded the last corner, their lungs and muscles burning from pure exhaustion. The rubber creature was less than ten floors away now and showing no signs of slowing. As the two rounded the last floor of stairs they were greeted with a welcome sight, the door marked 'To Rooftop Access' on it.

"Made it!" Sylph said as he pushed in the door release, only to have his body slam into the still closed door a second later. "What the..." Both canine and feline pressed against the door, the hard metal refusing to yield as they banged and pounded on it. Their panic escalated as they shook and pushed on the door as hard as they could, both of them crying out for someone to help them before a low growl caused them both to stop and slowly turn around.

The rubber creature that stood before them was huge, at least seven feet tall with muscles to match as it licked its rubber lips. His cock pointed straight at them, leaking a thick fluid similar to what had changed him earlier as one of his hands stoked his length idly as it seemed to decide which one of them to attack first. The two were trapped, pinned against the door as the rubber leopard slowly moved towards Slyph. When he was only a foot away Slyph pressed himself as tightly against the door as he could as the creature's tongue extended out, dripping a similar rubbery substance as it moved in for a kiss.

Suddenly there was a loud clanging noise as Slyph felt himself fall backwards, a glowing arc of electricity arching over him and striking the creature square in the chest. The rubber leopard let out a howl of pain as it staggered back and bumped against the guard railing. Bryan, seeing a window of opportunity, lunged forward and shoved the creature as hard as he could, causing it to tumble over the railing once more and plummeting down the stairwell.

"Thought I heard something over here." Yauchi said, strapping the strange rifle back on his chest. "C'mon, Dr. Marcovi and I disengaged the locks and we're ready to-" The eastern dragon never saw the tentacle come out of the adjacent room until it was too late, grabbing him in mid-sentence and pulling him inside the room. Slyph and Bryan didn't even have time to reach out for him, and as they looked inside the room they saw a very well-endowed monster rubber lion grab Yauchi by the wrists as his prehensile cock began to push its way into his tailhole and leak golden rubber against his thighs. The dragon's struggles quickly ceased, his eyes rolling into the back of his head as the tentacle around his waist held him tightly to the amethyst lion's rubbery chest. Their lips met in an unnatural kiss as the two observers watched the scales of Yauchi's throat bulge out from the tongue slithering down his throat as more of the liquid rubber began to leak from his nose and ears.

"God help us..." Bryan said as the two started to run once more, hearing the screams of those being converted in their rooms as they were covered in rubber and turned into monsters. With no weapon they were forced to dodge the creatures as best they could, more than once stumbling upon some poor soul who looked up at them with fear as tentacles, cocks, or tongues were pushed into their mouths and tailholes. One in particular had several of the creatures around them, so coated in tentacles all they could see was a quivering hand sticking out of the mass as rubber quickly moved over the feathers.

When they finally reached the stairs unmolested they saw Dr. Marcovi standing there, breathing a sigh of relief when the two showed up. "Thank goodness, I thought this plan had gone to seed when they breached the top floor." He said as they began to go up the final flight of stairs to the roof. "Where is Yauchi?"

The two looked at each other before their heads went down slightly, the naga nodding in understanding as his look of relief turned into one of sadness. When they reached the roof they found the three they had left behind working on the helicopter, prepping it for their arrival. Hale felt his heart jump as he saw that both Bryan and Slyph survived, though they both looked thoroughly beaten down as they tossed the bag into the cockpit where the red dragon opened it. "Where is everyone else?" He heard Loki asked, looking around for his own two friends.

"I'm so sorry Loki." The naga said as he patted the Tasmanian Tiger on the shoulder. "They didn't make it."

Loki's face was frozen in shock as Dr. Marcovi helped him to one of the seats, where he promptly buried his head in his hands as the rest of them boarded the helicopter. "Did you really have to bring me all the keys?!" Skize shouted from the cockpit as he started to toss unneeded ones out the window.

"Label your stuff better than next time!" Bryan snapped back, growling slightly until a loud crash caused them all to see as a three-headed cheetah smashed through the locked door.

"Someone stall them!" Dr. Marcovi said as he pressed several buttons on a nearby console, a minigun lifting up from the floor. "This will at least slow them down a little!"

"I'll do it." Slyph said bitterly as he grabbed the gun's firing mechanism and pointed it at the swarm of rubber creatures pouring out of the rooftop access. "Pretty pissed off at these things right now anyway." There was a small click as he pulled back on the duel triggers, the circular barrel spinning up before it released a hail of gunfire on the creatures. Hot brass littered the floor as Slyph gritted his teeth and continued to fire, the rest of them awestruck as the bullets had little effect on them aside from causing them to stagger back a bit.

"Found it!" Skize said as he jammed the key into the ignition, the helicopter quickly revving up. "Just keep them at bay for a little longer!"

"No problem." Slyph said, though it seemed his bullets were having less and less of an effect then before. Hale couldn't help but watch as the horde advanced on them, their tongues, cocks, and tentacles waving in the air as they came to claim their newest prey. Finally they got close enough that the huge cheetaberus whipped one of its tentacles forward and ripped the gun right out of the floor and tossed it aside. Slyph, Bryan, and Hale all quickly moved to shut the helicopter door, hearing several more of the rubbery appendages slamming against the metal as they felt themselves lifting up from the ground. The sounds of rubber banging against metal ceased as they flew off, several of the creatures falling off the roof and into the massive crowd of former islanders that had surrounded the building.

"Unreal..." Hale said as he looked out the window, Bryan right next to them as their view turned from the doomed hotel towards the lone facility on the other side of the island. "Now we're off to the heart of this mess, venturing straight into the viper's den..."
