Once upon a time, there lived a little husky named Nova.

Everyone in the small village loved Nova and the husky was happy. But there was something odd about Nova. Everyone thought Nova was a girl. Of course, it was a simple mistake to make. He looked like one, had a light musical voice, and loved spend lots of time playing with his fluffy fur.

Nova had many boys pay attention to him, which was fun. but he always turned them away eventually. He knew that people would be upset if they learned the truth.

Nova was content, if a tiny bit lonely. He had lots of friends, but no one who he could share his heart with.

One day, Nova was just gazing out his window, enjoying the late afternoon sun, when he noticed a family moving in to the small house a bit away from his.

"How exciting!" He thought. "Hardly anyone new ever shows up here!" He rushed and got in one of his best looking dresses, checked his hair and fur and rushed out to see the new family.

When he reached the house, they were just finishing bringing in the last of their furniture. He waved excitedly as he welcomed them to the town.

They were glad to see they had friendly neighbors, and they invited him inside for a drink of water. Nova accepted and went inside. He saw that it was a whole family of German Shepherds

As he sat and talked to them he found out that they had moved quite a bit recently. They didn't really say why. But Nova didn't press them

after a little bit, another member of the Shepherd family walked in. A young boy about Novas same age.

Nova blushed when he saw him. He was really very cute. He had to cross his legs quickly to avoid revealing himself as a boy.

"Oh..uh.." Said the Father. "This is Dmitri, our son. Son, this is Nova. She came by today to welcome us."

"Hi." He said quietly. He looked shyly around for a second then left the room. There was a short awkward silence, but Nova began the conversation again. After a bit longer, he bid them farewell and went back to his own home. During the walk, he kept thinking about the shy Dmitri. Maybe he could be a new friend? Of course, he'd have to turn him down eventually. but, maybe he could steal a kiss or two before that. Nova giggled at the thought

As the days went on Nova saw Dmitri around town, and at school. He kept trying to talk to him. But the German Shepherd never seemed too interested. Almost seemed nervous too.

One day, Nova saw Dmitri walking along the road towards home. Since they both lived the same direction. Nova joined him.

He tried talking several times, but as usual, Dmitri wouldn't respond much

"Do you dislike me for some reason?" Nova asked, frustrated.

"No...sorry." Dmitri said quietly.

Nova didn't say anything. He was confused. He wanted to be friends, but he didn't know how to talk to this person. He was so used to everyone paying him so much attention.

They walked home quietly after that, and each went to their own home.

But, Nova was still determined to win over the shy boy

but after many days, he didn't make much progress.

Dmitri would let Nova hang around, but he would never say much even though it was obvious that Nova liked him a lot

One day, Nova and Dmitri were sitting on a low stone fence, watching the sun set. A strange friendship had formed where Nova would prattle on until he ran out of things to say, and then they'd just hang around each other in silence for a while.

On this day, Dmitri seemed uncharacteristically animated.

He was sitting and fidgeting a bit. Nova didn't say anything, just turned towards him and head tilted.

Finally Dmitri actually spoke. "Nova.." He said softly. "It's actually been nice having you hang around. But I don't like you the way you want. So if that's what your hoping for you should leave.."

It was the most he'd ever said in one breath to Nova.

"But why?" Nova asked.

Dmitri sighed deeply. "Please don't tell anyone. I'm sick of moving because of this."

Nova promised he wouldn't tell anyone anything

"I don't like girls. I prefer boys...okay?" He said even more quietly, turning away.

Nova just sat quietly for a long moment. What a surprise this was.

Dmitri gave a short huff and moved as if to leave. "sorry," he said.

Nova grabbed his arm and stopped him. "wait." Nova said

Nova gave a nervous smile. "I prefer boys too."

Dmitri scoffed. "well, yeah. makes sense that you would, don't you think?"

Nova leaned close and gave Dmitri a quick lick across his nose. "Not for most people. See...I'm not what I seem.."

"I'm a boy." Nova said, blushing.

Dmitri looked back, wide eyed. "w..what? really? seriously?"

Nova nodded, his heart racing. They were both so close, if Nova moved his paw down a little, they'd be holding each others paws. "Ch..check for yourself.." Nova said nervously, and pulled Dmitri forward until their bodies were pressing allowing Dmitri to feel Novas obvious excitement about the situation through the huskies dress..

Dmitri gasped, and looked into Novas eyes. "wow..." was all he could say.

Nova smiled back and tilted his head the other way. "So.." He said, "What do you think now?"

In response, Dmitri quickly moved his muzzle forward and took Nova into a strong, passionate kiss that left the husky dazed and breathless afterwards.

Nova blinked, a slow smile spreading on his face. "wow..." was all he could say as well.

They both looked at each other for a moment, until they both broke out in happy, nervous giggles

"I'm really happy you moved here, Dmitri," Nova whispered, as they held each other in a soft embrace, the sun now setting and allowing twilight to take its place.

"I am too...Now.." Dmitri whispered back. Slowly this time, he leaned forward and kissed Nova once more, Novas arms moving around to the back of his neck and holding him closely and lovingly.

They stayed like that long into the night, until they both had to go home.

But from that moment onward, they were inseparable, best friends and secret lovers until they were both able to go out into the world on their own together.

They lived and loved each other like no one else ever had.
