Book One: The Gifted Child -Chapter Two
#3 of The Rithmorie Chronicles
This is really short I know. I'm hoping to get longer chapters in. Its just hard for me to write in what I think is the third person. X3 I'm started to get really shy all of a sudden. I am considering rewriting this in the first person.
It was a cold morning in the village the next day. Tonka awoke and yawned a bit from his sleep. He suddenly felt really energize, jumping out of his bed and getting dressed in the normal attire, simple cloth wear. He ran out of the room and it felt like he was out of the door in just a split second. He wasn't sure what was going on but he had chores to do. He had to go pick berries for the morning breakfast. Adriana woke to hearing the odd noises of Tonka's scuffling. She rolled over and notice that her husband was gone again. Apparently he didn't come home at all last night it would seem. She got out of bed and clothed herself as well. " Tonka?" she hollered out.
Tonka's ears perked up and he ran back inside the little house. Adriana was startled as her son seemed to just appear out of no where in front of her. He wagged his tail excitedly and tilted his head. She tilted her head as well and placed her paw on her chin. " Tonka... go get me a stick from outside. I need to make something." she said softly. Sure enough Tonka bolted. She blinked as she tried to keep an eye on him but he was moving to fast for her to even see. " Well... side effects huh? I will look into this myself." she said softly. Tonka quickly got a stick and ran back.
He was back into the house and smiled softly. " Now you can go do your chores, then you and I are going to play a game okay?" she said softly. She had a good idea what was going on, but she needed to see it for herself. Tonka bolted out of the house, going to pick the berries he was supposed to get and she rushed out of the house to go see Kahz. She didn't know how fast he was going to pick the berries and wasn't going to waste anytime.
Tonka was really excited. He finally got to the berry patch just outside of the village. He started to shoffle around the bushes and looked around a bit for some bright red raspberries. One of his favorites. His ear twitched a bit to some noises, voices in fact. He looked around and saw some other pups and started to fold his ears back instantly. He hopped over a couple of bushes and sat down. The other pups were much bigger than he was as he was considered a runt. He wasn't one for confrontations and they always liked to pick on him for his size. He wanted to wait till they were gone to finish picking berries.
The other kids suffled around and began to look for some berries as well. They laughed and pushed each other playfully. Tonka closed his eyes and tried to relax. He felt his heart racing a bit. He opened his eyes only to see that things were moving a bit slower than they normally would be. He saw one of the other kids and it just seemed he was moving in slow motion. His attention was diverted with a specific smell. He turned his head quickly to find it. It made him completely forget about the other kids.
He looked around quickly to find the source of this smell and soon found what he was looking for. It was right there in front of him. It was the biggest, bright red strawberry he has ever seen, and he had to have it. He started to crawl to it and grabbed it gently. His mouth was practically watering at the thought of eating it. " Hey its the runt!" someone had called out. He panicked and picked the strawberry and put it in his pouch. He stood up quickly and looked around.
In front of him stood Alex, the largest of the pups. He had red and white fur, being a young elementalist of fire with a temper to boot. He looked at Tonka and smirked. " Well... if it isn't Tonka. Can't believe they still consider you part of the clan." he said as he walked up to Tonka and pushed him over. Tonka fell with a soft thud but got back up and brushed himself off. His heart was racing again. He was planning to run because he wasn't one for a physical confrontation. " And it seems that our little buddy Tonka drank from the Rith. You know what that means right guys?" he chuckled. The others there snicker and laughed as they surrounded Tonka.
Tonka looked around, trying to find a way to escape but before he could act on anything, he was grabbed by the other two pups. He tried to get out of their grip but one of the had a forest element and the next was ice who froze his feet to the ground. He was stuck. Alex looked at him and couldn't help but to hae a smirk on his face as he walked close to Tonka. He held up his paw, creating a small flame inside of it. " Not that you have drank from the Rith we are able to rough you up big time." he smirked.
Tonka heart beat fast and it started to seem that Alex was moving in slow motion now as he was beginning to throw the little fire ball in his paw. the others started moving away, leaving Tonka bound in ice and wrapped up in vines. He started to panic but couldn't help but to feel really upset. He didn't understand why he was being picked on and he closed his eyes. His heart beating out of control. He felt hot. His anger welling up inside of him. He grit his teeth. " Alex his fur color is changing..!" the ice pup said. Tonka opened his eyes only to see the ball of flame come at him. The two pups ran behind Alex as the ball of fire hit Tonka, causing a little explosion in the berry field. " What the..." Alex said as he tilted his head.
