The Unexpected Summer, The Final Decision
I have made my decision concerning
this series and its continuation. This message is mostly for those who read the
Epilogue, but failed to respond to it. I try not to be one who randomly
admonishes folks, but that is what these few paragraphs are. Stories, Art, Photos, and Music, as
well as any insights and information posted in journals, is made free to the
users of this site. For the most part, everything you see on here you're seeing for
free. That is a great thing if you think about it.
So if
you like something, it behooves you to mention it to the artist/writer. Since
they are getting nothing for their time except the appreciation that you, the
user, bestows upon them, then it
behooves you to, on occasion, post that appreciation as a vote or a like.
Comments are especially nice, because they help drive the direction of a story.
Not everything I write suits everyone on here. Nor does the taste of you the reader always
suit me. So as a compromise, since I did not wish to continue with Mark and his
girls, I have yielded to those who found the decency to make their will known.
The
present stories of The Unexpected Summer series will be be moved to a new group
of my creation, a group that for those who commented, voted or faved on the
Epilogue, will be openly accessible with an invitation that has already been
extended. I will open it up again in a
month or two. No members will be
accepted outside of this initial group until I am ready to do so.
I
understand that many of you have negative opinions on leaving feedback. That is
your right, but I doubt any of your excuses are legitimate. I have crunched the
numbers, and the fact is, my first story in the series has over four thousand
views. As an initial offering, that makes sense. People may read it and decide
the rest aren't for them. Some stories have higher views than others, due, I am
sure, to tags.
But for
any artist or writer, your recognition may help you to see more of a story
line. Nothing bothers me more than hearing from someone who wants to know if a
story is going to continue, and having never heard from this person before. If
you like a story, hit fave or vote. Vote will keep you anonymous, or, if you
change your settings, you can make both your faves and your votes invisible to
all except he/she who receives it.
Remember,
this is a community. You have decided to make yourself part of it. Just like in real life, what becomes of it is in part up to you. Without readers, I would not
bother writing. I am not prone to devoting my time to a project if I think no one likes the
stuff, though I will still write and post stories just because I feel like it.
So remember; if you like it, put a ring on its finger. They let the author or
artist know you like it. And yes, you have every right to not like something well enough to say so. Trust
me, I know. I am in the position to judge one of the categories here on
SoFurry, and finding suitable material has recently forced me into looking
through old listings. But if I find something I like, I post it and I fave, or
vote, or comment on it. It's the right thing to do.
Lastly,
since I am essentially ranting, I would like to say this to the author/artists
out there. If someone likes your work, make a note of it to them. Unless they
tell you differently, do it. Acknowledge your fans, even if you have a large base
of them. It makes them feel appreciated. I have quit watching a few folks just
because they seem to be too arrogant to acknowledge their admirers. If you have any questions concerning this, drop me a line. I will be happy to answer them as best as I am able.
