IT had been a week since anyone had seen Asgore. Even Undyne and Alphys couldn't get him to answer the door. Sans was getting worried. He was a jovial guy. He was never like this. And when Sans got worried, everyone got worried. It was early morning when Sans used one of his shortcuts to get into Asgore's house.

Inside he saw things he never thought he would see Asgore messing with. Scientific equipment. Machines, test tubes, computers. Notes piled everywhere. As he walked through, he made sure to note where the exits where. Then he spotted Flowey in a pot in the middle of a room. Coming close he spoke softly. "Ok... sup?" Flowey turned slowly. Looking up at Sans, he was still crying.

Sans was uncertain, but felt that Flowey was no danger to anyone at this point. "What's wrong?" "Dad..... he's...." Sans looked around. Where was Asgore? "What happened?" Flowey remained silent. "Dad said he would come back with lunch and tea. That was an hour ago..." sans nodded. "Sit tight. Im gonna find him." Sans walked to the kitchen. There was Asgore. He was fixing something to eat. "Asgore..." The large goat monster turned slowly. He smiled faintly. "Sans... what a pleasant surprise. Care to join us for lunch?"

Sans had never said no to food. "Sure." Walking with Asgore back to the makeshift lab, he sat and ate with them. "So what is going on?" Asgore smiled again and pat Flowey softly. "My son is back. I'm going to get him his body back so he can grow up happy and strong." Sans nodded. That was something Asgore would do. "But I don't know how. I had Alphys deliver some of her old equipment. But I am no good at this."

"Why not ask for help?" Flowey leaned down. "Because no one will believe me after what happened." Sans had to admit, after seeing Toriel's reaction to him, he had to agree. Undyne might not be so restrained. Especially if Alphys was frightened. And papyrus... yea this was a big mess.

"There is one way I know of.... The same way it happened before." Sans dropped his cup. He looked at Asgore. Asgore was distraught. But even he was not capable of that. "You're joking right?" "No. I think it may be possible to use the soul of someone that has died to help my son. But I can not ask such a thing of anyone. This is why I have continued to search for answers." That was more like the Asgore everyone knew.

It was evening when Sans left. When he was sure that Asgore and Flowey were going to be alright. He was mulling about telling Toriel. She had the right to know her son was alive. But.... What would she do when she found out what had become of him? It was while mulling over this that he found his way to her door. "Better tell her."

As he opened the door he came face to face with Toriel, wearing her coat and boots. "Oh. I was worried. I was coming to find you." He smiled. "Im ok Tory... Look we... We need to talk. All of us. Including Frisk. I guess let's call the others." Tory was confused but didn't question. Once everyone was gathered Sans turned to Frisk. "You know who Flowey really is don't you?" Frisk nodded softly. "And you didn't tell us because you were protecting Flowey from us right?" Again, a soft nod.

Undyne was grinding her teeth. Not at Frisk, but at the fact Flowey was still around and hiding behind Frisk. Sans nodded and pat Frisk on the head softly. "You're a good kid. Only a real friend would do that." Undyne stopped grinding her teeth. Looking confused at Sans. "Ok so... Flowey.."

Toriel didn't like where this was going to go. She could feel it. But she stayed silent. "Flowey is.. Asriel Dreamurr. The prince didn't die. He was just changed. He lost his soul but his powers were so great he hung on after death. And Flowey is that new form." Toriel was silent. The shock of it was too great. But Frisk could see it in the corner of her eye. A single tear forming. "Asgore found out last week. That's why he's been quiet. He's trying to help Flowey. And the only known way is... the same way it happened before. Someone has to give up their soul." "NO!" Toriel screamed. Then she cupped her paws over her mouth. That shout had startled everyone, including Sans.

Frisk looked up at her. "Mom..." Toriel looked down and bit her lip until it bled. If Asriel was alive..... "Mom I didn't tell you because I didn't wanna upset you.." Frisk was on the verge of tears. Toriel slid her arms around her. "It is alright my child." Looking up at the others she silently pleaded for answers. Sans nodded and spoke, "Alphys. Undyne. You come with me to Asgore's place. Lets see if we can help." "What about me?" "I'm entrusting Toriel and Frisk's protection to you Papyrus. Keep um safe bro." Papyrus nodded and saluted.

The next morning the three arrived in Asgore's makeshift lab. But it was empty. No power. The lights were all blown. Flowey's pot was empty as well. They searched the whole house. No one. Sans began to wonder if Flowey had betrayed Asgore and done something. He turned suddenly when he heard a sniffle. There in the corner of the room where it was dark. He saw someone. His eye glowed as he spoke. "Come on out.... Now." Undyne stood in front of Alphys with a spear in each hand. But the being that came too them made them all stop short. Asriel. He was crying and holding Asgore's crown. "D...daddy.... Hes... gone..."

Sans looked at the kid, and then at Undyne. Making a motion for her to relax he came close. "What happened kiddo?" "D..dad said he had to fix this... and.... And he...." Sans hugged Asriel suddenly. "Its ok kiddo... I got ya... Asriel collapsed into Sans arms and cried. Alphys moved to one of the machines. Working she brought up the data. "he did it... He brought his son back... The only way he knew how...He didn't need the machines, just his own magic." She sighed and took off her glasses. Wiping at her eyes, she spoke. "hes gone... We cant get him back without hurting Asriel."

Sans picked Asriel up. "Come on. Let's get the kid back to his mother." The walk back was long. Sans made sure to wrap Asriel up in his jacket warmly. There was nothing really else to do but take the kid to Toriel. As they came to her house, it was around noon. They saw her standing on the porch. The light dusting of snow made everything seem more peaceful. Once inside, Sans set Asriel down. "We were... too late to stop him Toriel.. Asgore did it." He said softly. Toriel's eyes watered, but they fell on Asriel. As she knelt he spoke. "Im sorry momma..." Toriel shook her head. "Oh my son... It's not your fault... Come here please." As he came to her, she hugged him tightly. Frisk stood in the door to the kitchen. Looking at reborn Asriel, she smiled.

She came to sans and held his hand. "Thank you." She whispered. Sans just shrugged and held her hand gently. At dinner Sans stayed to help Toriel get Asriel settled. It was a simple matter really. Frisk was very willing to share everything with Asriel. At dinner, they had a simple meal, as Toriel was too shaken to fix anything special. After dinner, Toriel and Sans tucked Frisk and Asriel into bed. The pair were out like a light almost instantly.

They sat in the kitchen afterward. Drinking coffee and silently staring at each other. Finally Toriel spoke. "I didn't hate him...I just... The way he got so angry and declared to kill every human. So may innocent beings. I tried to tell them it was just a misunderstanding... that they were scared." Sans reached over and took her paw in his hand gently. "Tory... I think he regretted it the moment he said it. But once he had... he couldn't take it back. He had to go through it."

She nodded. "I know.... I just... He wasn't a bad monster. Just... emotional. He was in pain. I should have stayed. I should have helped him. I should have...." The tears streamed down her face as she gripped her cup harder. It caught fire in her paws. Sans reached over and gently touched her arm. "Tory... its alright. He did this... For you and Asriel... and Frisk. He knew he had done wrong. And he did the only thing he could to make up for it... He gave you your son back..." Sans was hoping he was right about that.

Toriel looked at him. Smiling she snuffed out the flames and pat his hand. "Y.. yes. He was a good husband. I.. I am sorry Sans. I did not mean to burst out like that. It was not ladylike of me." Sans pat her arm and stood. "I better get home. You know Papyrus without his bedtime story.." She smiled and led him out. Sans took the long walk home. He was thinking. 'She was... is still in love with him. I should have just kept my fat skull out of it. Ah well. At least the kids are ok. And Toriel loves them both. They will be fine. Frisk has a good head on her shoulders. And Asriel is a good kid. He will be alright. They both will.'

Coming home he found Papyrus waiting for his story patiently. But rather than the usual gripe, Papyrus just smiled and held out a cup of coffee to Sans. Sans was a bit confused, but took the coffee.

The next morning, Toriel went to go check on the children. Both were still asleep. Missing a day of school wouldn't hurt. She let that thought roll in her head a bit. Coming back to the hall she picked up the phone. Dialing the school she spoke. "Yes this is Toriel. Yes. No I... I think Frisk and I will not be coming to school for a while. No its... There has been a few things happen. And we have a new member of the family to settle in. Yes. Oh it is alright. Ok. Thank you very much."

Hanging up she went to the kitchen. She began fixing some food for when they woke up. Soon she heard the shuffle of small feet on the floor in the hall. Coming out she spotted Frisk and Asriel shuffling to the bathroom. She smiled and went back to the kitchen. As she finished preparing their meal, she hummed softly. The pair came to the table, still rubbing their eyes. "Good morning my dears. Breakfast is ready. I have toast and juice for you both." They clambered into their seats and smiled as Toriel served them. Taking her seat with her meal she watched as they ate and talked softly.

"I called into the school today. We wont be going back for a while. But that's ok. I can teach you both here at home. I think today we should spend doing something quiet and enjoyable. How about snail hunting?" Frisk smiled. "Yes," she said with a nod. Asriel was uncertain. "M.. Momma." He said softly. "Yes my son?" "Am I in trouble?" Toriel looked a bit confused. "Why would you be in trouble dear?" "Because of what I did... when I was a mea flower..." He sniffled. She came to him slowly and hugged him. "No my son. You are not in trouble. I know now you couldn't understand what you had done then. Shhhh it is alright. Mother is here now."

Frisk smiled softly. Asriel was going to be ok. After a bit of time to eat and get dressed, They all went into the back yard to a warmer patch of ground that was sheltered by tall trees. "Here we are. Our hunting patch. Lots of good snails are here. I bet you two can find some big ones. But remember. No snacking. I don't want you to ruin your appetite." Both nodded and smiled. "Yes momma." They said together.

Venturing into the trees, they stayed close to Toriel. Occasionally spotting a monster or ghost, but little else. It was not long before they had a full bucket of snails. Toriel smiled, proud that her children were such good listeners and learned from her. As they came to the house again, they were met by Papyrus. He smiled and held up a large piece of paper. "Look Toriel!!! I did it! I got my diploma! Now I can get a cool job!" Toriel smiled and hugged him. "Oh this is wonderful Papyrus. I am very proud of you."

Papyrus launched into a monologue of how great he was and how much greater he was going to be. Toriel smiled, very proud he had done this for himself. Frisk giggled and hugged him as well. Asriel was still... wary of getting close. Papyrus smiled at him and pat his head. "One day you will be as great as me... Maybe.. As great as your father was!" Asriel felt.... Proud. That someone would say he could be that great one day.

After Papyrus left, Toriel made them some sandwiches and let them eat. After that she let them go play in the living room. A simple game of memory flash. But it seemed to excite them both to play together. Toriel smiled. It was later after dinner that she lay in bed reading, she heard them talking quietly. She thought to go tell them to go to sleep, but... No. Let them stay up late tonight. Let them enjoy life a little... For Asgore.
