Chapter One - Dusk Before Dawn
#2 of Life's Changes
"It's amazing how quickly life can change and turn your entire world around. With the flip of a coin your present existence can become a blissful dream, or a cruel demented nightmare. I would soon learn how the smallest instances would cause my world to over-turn; For better or worse was the question though.
-Krys
I lay there what seemed an eternity, the clock on my night stand the only form of light breaking the darkness in my room. 5:48 A.M. Grabbing my phone in hopes that my clock maybe off quickly faded as it read the same time, along with the date. August, 13th. Friday. I shivered and sighed as I drew back the covers and quietly made my way to the bathroom. Looking in the mirror I ruffled my fur as it showed signs of knots and twists from laying in bed tossing and turning. I turned the water on and let it warm up and slid my boxers off. Hoping in the tub I stood there letting the water wash over me in an effort that it would cleanse me of another sleepless night. I normally don't have problems sleeping but knowing the date that lie ahead kept me up. It was the anniversary of my fathers passing. Ten years ago today. I was only six when he died and him and my mother were going through the final process of divorce so I didn't really get the chance to know him, but still it hurt. Small tears left my eyes as I continued to wash my fur. Losing anyone at that age is definitely devastating, but for it to be someone so close. It was difficult to get over. Pulling myself together I rinsed my fur and stepped out of the shower. Grabbing my towel and starting to dry off I headed back for my room, I dried myself down and started to get dressed. Black slim skinny jeans and Metallica t-shirt was my choice for the day. Pulling my shirt down the rest of the way I was startled by the sound of knocking at my door. Turning quickly to see my mother standing in my doorway she gave me a faint smile. "Your'e up early hon" she spoke softly. Shaking my head slightly, "no I- I didn't sleep at all" my response was quiet and more of a whimper. Looking down tears forming again she shuffled toward me and gave me a hug. "It's ok Krys, I know it still hurts. Be strong and brave baby, you'll pull through. You always do." She pulled away and gave me a soft smile, I forced a smile back and she began to walk out. "I'll go get some coffee started for us while you finish getting ready." I nodded as she poked her head back in "Oh and Krys. Happy birthday hon" I chuckled and she gave me a hopeful smile before leaving. I sat on the edge of my bed staring at the only pic of my father I had. "Yeah, happy birthday" I thought to myself.
Back in the bathroom I started combing my now dried fur, the black glistening in the light along with the died purple. My fur was a natural black with a light brown stipe that starts at the right of my bangs and follows down my back to the left to my tail. I straightened the fur on my head to give it a slight bed heady spiked look before heading to the kitchen. I poured my coffee and took a sip as I made my way to the garage. The garage that was attached to the house was turned into a closed off patio more or less. A bar with chairs and a TV in the corner made it into a little salon style living room. My mom sat out there flipping between channels, turning to me as I found my seat and took another drink of my coffee. She glanced at the clock, roughly 7, "your sister should be up soon, you wanna make sure she's up and getting ready?" I nodded and stood heading for her room. Reaching the door I gave it a soft knock, "hey, mom wants to know if your up and getting ready?" Her reply was groggy and slightly annoyed, "Yeah, yeah, I'm up." I laughed softly as I headed back toward the garage. Walking out the door I caught the end of a conversation she was having on the phone, not paying any mind to it I drank my coffee and stared blankly at the TV. We lived in a small town so the news never really showed anything specific to our community. I was lost in thought only snapping back as my mom grabbed my paw. "Hello," I turned to face her and chuckled, "sorry mom, hehe, got lost for a second." She laughed and squeezed my paw, "that's alright, I was just trying to tell you I'm going to head for the shower. Why don't you walk your sister to school, and when you get back we'll have some breakfast." I looked at her with confusion in my eyes, "but I have school too mom." "No, I just called you in sick," she smiled and waved her phone. I smiled and laughed with her as we both stood, I walked over and hugged her, "thanks mom." "No problem sweetie, now get your sister to school and I'll see ya in a little bit." I smiled and nodded as we walked back inside, she headed downstairs and waved bye as I placed my coffee cup in the sink.
I knocked on my sisters door right as she opened it, startling me I jumped back slightly. "Oh, sorry haha." We both laughed it off as we walked to the front door, shutting the door behind us. I looked at the drive way and smiled seeing my car there, my mom had helped my buy an old Honda Prelude. For being a '97 it was clean and ran solid. Its smooth silver paint shown bring as the sun beamed down on it. "So if you pass your test your'e gonna come pick me up after school right?" She said jokingly. I gave her a funny look "what's this if nonsense? Of course I'll pass it." She gave me a light shove and laughed more. "Yeah, uh-huh, 'course you are." I laughed with her as we started the walk to the high school, it being a small town it was only a few blocks away, but as with every town, there's aways those trouble makers. Mom always felt better when she knew Faith was with me. Twenty minutes or so had gone by as we reached the school, only a few furs remained outside, "hurry up or you'll be late Faith." She gave me a quick hug, "yeah, I'm going, I'm going. Good luck on your test big brother, and" she let go of the hug and shifted awkwardly. "...And happy birthday" I pulled her in for one more quick hug, "thanks Faith, have a good day, and I'll pick ya up after school." She smiled and nodded before running inside. I let out a long sigh and small whimper and I started back for the house. Being born on Friday the 13th aways gave me an off feeling about my birthday, but once my dad died on my sixth birthday, it- it was just never the same. We used to live in the in a bigger city a couple hours north of here but after my dads passing our mom moved us here. Hoping that moving to a smaller town would help bring us closer, and this is where her new boyfriend live. Todd was our new step-father, he was caring and thoughtful, but I couldn't bring myself to open up to him. I felt bad, he was a great guy and all, I just- I don't know. Wasn't ready I guess. I did appreciate all he's done though. He was bigger German Shepard, he worked construction so he was built pretty well, his fur a dusty brown with patches of white. Kinda rare for his breed. Was kinda cool, his personality followed suit. Hard working and intelligent, he always made time for my mom, sister and myself. No matter what, I was glad he had been the one to step into our life and bring us together.
Reaching the house I paused to give my car a good look over. Another perk of Todd working construction, I was able to help out every now and then to make some cash. Most of which went into the car. Parts for the engine and a full tune up, Todd helped me tear a good portion of it apart and clean it as we put it back together. Of course I threw my own flare into it as well, putting a louder exhaust on it, replacing the speakers, head unit, and subs. Mother didn't agree with it, but as long as I promised not to wake up the neighborhood she let it go. My stomach growled as the scent of bacon and eggs filtered into my flared nostrils. I licked my lips as I stepped inside, reaching the kitchen my mom stood at the stove and smiled. "Hope your'e hungry." She teased. "Starving," I chuckled. One thing my mom knew was how to cheer me up with my favorite breakfast meal. Scrabbled eggs, cheese, bacon, tomatoes, and thin sliced fried potatoes wrapped in a tortilla. Her freshly washed fur gleamed in the light as she handed me a plate. Her fur was a bright dirty blonde with light streaks of silver, you could defiantly tell her and my sister were related. I smiled as I grabbed the plate, walking back outside. "Maybe today will be a good day after all," I thought to myself. I took a seat at the bar and dug in as my mom came out with her own plate and sat down. "So aside from going to the court house for your test, got any plans for the day?" I looked up and tried to speak and little bits of food fell out. Laughing she handed me a napkin, "slow down and chew your food." I laughed and swallowed my bite, "no not really. Figured once I pass I'll drive around a bit and eventually make my way to the skatepark like usual." Shaking her head, she let out a soft laugh. "Just be careful, don't want you to wreck your car first day of having your license." I gave her a snickered look. "You really think I'm that bad of a driver?" She laughed again, and spoke softer, "no of course not. I trust you'll be safe, its everyone else that I worry about." I smiled softly, "don't worry mom, I'll be careful." As we finished our food I took our plates inside and gave them a quick rinse before setting them in the sink. "Alright I gotta head to work," my mom grabbed her purse and walked over to give me a hug. "Let me know how it goes and I'll see ya when you get home." She gave me a quick kiss on the side of my muzzle. Whipping the spot she kissed with my paw I stuck my tongue out. "Gross mom." She chuckled "But yeah, I'll let ya know how it goes, and I'll talk to ya later. Love you" She started out the back door and smiled, "love you too sweetie." With that she was gone, I watched her SUV pull out of the alley and checked the time on my phone. 10 A.M. "Eh, should probably head up there. Hopefully won't be too packed," I said to myself.
I popped my head phones on and swiped through the playlist on my iPhone. Finally I decided on Engine 45 by The Ghost Inside. I grabbed my skateboard and walked out the front door, locking it behind me. I patted my car as I passed by, reaching the street I hoped on my board and began kicking my way down the road. Rolling down the street jamming out I noticed a couple of moving vans parked a few houses down. Heading in that direction, I slowed a bit trying to see who was moving in. Looked to be like a couple of more arctic looking foxes, white coats with blotches of a rough grey. Passing by I gave them a quick wave, the woman nodded and smiled while her husband just huffed and continued to move various boxes. That's one thing I always hated, how much hate and judgment skaters got. I mean yeah, there's some pretty awful people who give skaters and bad rep; But at the same time I am dressed in some more gothic looking clothes. "Sorry my style makes you automatically hate who I am" I thought as I kicked more pushing faster. Didn't take me long to reach the court house, especially on my board. I took my head phones out as I stepped inside, I made my way to the receptionist desk. "Um, hi, uh which forms do I need to fill out for my drivers license?" I asked. The more terrier looking fur looked up at me and handed me a packet. "Fill out the top two pages and wait down that hall." She said. I took the pamphlet and turned for the hallway she pointed to. "Oh, ok. Thank you," I replied but she had already gone back to reading whatever paper she was reading. "Not very friendly this morning are we?" I thought. Taking a seat I began filling out the forms. Pretty standard questions. Height, age, color, breed, and so on. I finished just as a more heavier set horse called me back. Handing him the papers I sat on the other side of his desk. "Looks as though you've already taken your written test, is that right?" He spoke in a more monotone voice. "Uh, yeah that's right." He stood "alright, we'll just jump right into the driven test then shall we." His voice changed to a more friendly tone seeing that I would probably be one of the quickest and easiest furs he'd have to deal with all day. I followed him out to a near by car and hoped in the drivers seat. An old beat up Toyota Camry, no doubt torn up by others taking their tests.
The test itself went rather quickly, simple turn here, pull over there. Pull back out, turn around here, and head back. We pulled into the original parking spot and I shut the car off as he finished scribbling something on his note pad. "Well you want the bad news or good news first?" His eyes fixed on me. I gulped "Umm, bad news I guess." He nodded, "well son, you failed, but you can come try again tomorrow." I sunk in my seat and sighed before he started laughing. "I'm only kidding, you did great. Just trying to get you to lighten up is all." I laughed and brought my paws to my face, "oh God, I thought you were serious haha." We stepped out of the car and I followed him back inside, "nope you did rather well for your first time." "I got a lot of practice time in with my permit," I replied. "That's good to hear, now lets go get the rest of the paper work finished, and get your license printed out." The finishing touches seemed to take for ever, I was too excited to finally be able to drive my car on my own. Standing in front of the camera I ran my paw through my fur to get it back to its faint spiked look. The camera flashed and he typed a few more things before the printer whirled to life as my new license began to emerge. He handed me some papers along with my license and smiled wishing me a good day as I practically ran out the door. I thanked him and was out the door and on my board in a flash. Pushing my way back to my house I quickly passed the family of foxes I had passed earlier, only there were three this time. I didn't give enough attention to look at the third, I only had one thing on my mind.
Making it back to the house I fiddled with the front door lock, bursting my way inside I ran to the cupboard that held all the keys. I quickly grabbed my cars keys and added them to my key ring. I was almost skipping as I headed outside locking the door once again. Unlocking my car I tossed my skateboard in the back, opened the sunroof, and rolled the windows down. Bringing the engine to life with a loud rumble, I noticed a white figure jump at the sound. Looking back I saw the arctic fox from earlier, must be the couples son. I gave an awkward smile and waved sorry. He waved back and regained his composure and kept walking. "I'll need to introduce myself sometime and apologize," I thought. "No time now though." With that I pull out of the drive way blaring The Hounds of Anubis by The Word Alive. Shifting to first, I dumped the clutch a little harder than I meant to and took off. The exhaust echoed as I made my way to the main road, turning onto it I started heading for my moms work. She worked at a real-estate agency just up the road a bit. 12:30, she should just be leaving for lunch. Sure enough, right as I pulled up she was walking out the door. I basically jumped out of my car as I parked it, running up and hugging her. We talked for a brief time, congratulated me and told me she only had a short time for lunch and needed to run. She gave me a quick hug and handed me a card before heading home to eat. I sat back in my car and open the card, there was a short note saying how proud she was and a fifty dollar bill. I placed the cash in my wallet and drove off to drive around a little more.
After a half hour or so of driving I pulled into the parking lot for the skatepark and sat in my car as Buried Alive by Avenged Sevenfold came on. I turned up the volume and laid my head back singing along with the song. Once it got to the heavier part I really started jamming out, air guitar and everything. I got quite a few odd stares from people walking by but I didn't care. Today was going to well for me to let anyone else get me down. I opened my trunk and grabbed my board, leaving it open so the music could be heard more clearly. Entering the skate park I ran up the half pipe and quickly pulled out my phone to change the song. The stereo I put in my car had bluetooth so I could play in wirelessly. Wise choice I thought to myself. I turned on Your World On Fire by In Fear and Faith, this song always got me in a hardcore skating mood, and with that rolled into the pipe. Pumping back and forth I got enough speed to 50-50 stall and drop back in. Rolling into a rocky fakey on the other side, coming back with a 360 rock on the other. I road the half pipe for a good 30 minutes before the heat started to get to me. Popping up on the top of the pipe I set my board down took off my shirt. I used it to wipe my fur down before laying it over the railing. I leaned against the railing for a moment and realized I had an audience. I looked over to see the same fox from earlier sitting on a bench down by some trees. I took him a moment to realize I was staring back at him, it wasn't until I waved that he noticed. He quickly blushed and turned away. I thought about going over and saying hi as my phone started to vibrate. Taking my phone out of my pocket, my sister texted me. "Schools getting out soon, should I look for your car or nah?" I quickly replied "yeah, I'm on my way there now." I looked up to see if the fox was still there but he had already left. Odd, I thought. I threw my shirt and board back in the trunk and turned on My Curse by Killswitch Engage.
I barreled down the road towards the school, slowing down as I entered the parking lot, luckily I found a spot closish to the front doors. The first bell rang and soon after all the seniors started flooding out. Our school was weird and dismissed grades one at a time. Freshmen being last of course. I zoned out leaning against my can scrolling through Facebook on my phone as students began flooding out of the main doors, obviously excited for the weekend. That was quickly interrupted as I felt a firm tug on my tail. "Owwwee!" I yipped as turned with a low growl "the hell..." I sighed as my gaze found the assailant, Zach was practically rolling on the ground laughing. "You asshole." Zach was taller honey badger with black fur and two large stripes of grey and bright silver running down his back. His true height showed when he finally gained his composure, right around six foot and pretty damn muscularly toned, you defiantly wanted him on your side in a scrap. Though his personality was very kind and caring, he had a pretty good hold on his temper but knew if it came down to a fight he could get very intimidating. "You're such a dick," I chuckled as I gave his arm a good punch. "Hey, you deserved it for ditching class today! What the hell were you doing anyway?" With dumbfounded look I gestured towards my car, "the fuck you think I was doing? Plus I'm sick" Pounding my chest lightly as I gave some faked heckling coughs. He punched me back "yeah you're damn lair" laughing more. "Anyway what's the plan for the day?" Shrugging with a confused look "Don't know, I was down at the skatepark before here, was planning on heading back there after here." He nodded his head side to side "eh sounds good to me. I gotta run home and grab my board though." "Alright I'll just meet there then," I waved as he turned towards his car. Revving it a few good times before taking off, he drove a pretty sleek look 2001 Mustang Bullitt GT fastback. Its highland green giving a low shine as he pulled out of the parking lot and gunned it down the road. He took damn good care of it but he liked to get on it a lot. I mean a lot. I shook my head and chuckled as I heard his exhaust echo through the neighborhood.
My sister finally emerged from the doors, walking and chatting with Brittany. Brittany was a slightly smaller breed of wolf, her fur a light grey with soft shades of silver and black running down her back. I waved as I noticed my sister scanning the parking lot. Brittany saw me first, smiled brightly giving a rapid wave with her paw. Once they made their way over I gave Brittany a tight hug "hi friend." I said in a more animated voice as I picked her up, she was a good few inches shorter than me with a small slender frame. "Okay, put me down. You're squeezing the life out of me." I set her down laughing softly. "Thanks friend." She replied giggling slightly. "No problem, haha. Did you re-die your tips?" I asked while motioning to the fur on her head. "Oh yeah, I did it the other day. You like it?" She chose a frosted teal look for her tips on the top of her head. "Yeah, you did a damn good job at it. Looks awesome." Her face lit up as I said that, "awe thanks!" "You're welcome" I flashed her a smile before turing to Faith, "you ready to go?" She threw her bag in my car "yup I'm ready. You gonna be at the park later Brit?" She paused waiting for a response before sitting down the rest of the way in the passenger seat. "Yeah I'll be down there after I run home." She said as she started off to find her ride. "Okay, byyeeee," Faith said as she finished getting into her seat. I got in and fired up the car and started to back out, I slid my phone out of my pocket to turn on some music. "Can I pick a song?" Faith asked making grabby notions with her paws. I gave a soft laugh as I handed her my phone, "yeah go for it." "Yayyy!!" Her voice more high pitched and excited as she grabbed my phone and quickly selected her favorite song. Your Betrayal by Bullet For My Valentine. I turned up the volume as the open guitar rift started, the subs pounding from the back, other furs quickly stared then shook their heads as we jammed out and sped out of the parking lot.
The ride home was pretty short but I let the song play on as we sat in the driveway singing and acting like goofballs. As the song finished Faith reached for her bag out of the back seat, "see ya at the park." I waved as she got out and made her way up to the front door, "okay see ya later." I went to change the song as The Taste of Regret came on by In Fear and Faith. I shrugged and left it as I pulled out and made my way to the park. Once on the main road I noticed the same fox from earlier walking the opposite direction, "man that kid walks around a lot for just moving here." I thought out loud. "I guess the town isn't that big though." I shrugged it off and continued on my way. As I pulled my way into the parking lot I spotted Logan already there hitting the ramps hard. Logan was an Arctic Leopard, he stood fairly taller than me, but not as muscularly toned as I. His fur a ghostly white with deep black spots, he also had a pretty wicked looking scar on the under side of his forearm; But he was never really too keen on telling how he got it. I never really tried to press the issue too much though. I parked my car and grabbed my board and gave a slight run as I jumped on and rolled up the speed ramp. Kicking my board up once I got to the top. I turned and watched as he 180'd the quarter pipe, flying back down and getting some air off the kicker on the fun-box. He stopped at the top of the speed ramp and stuck his paw out, "yo, what'd up bruh?" I grabbed his paw and he pulled me in for a quick hug, "nada man, ready for a good skate sesh." He waved down the ramp "well get after it then," he laughed giving a slight smirk, "if you think you can handle it that is?" He laughed harder, he had quite a smart-assy personality with a good sarcastic sense of humor, all in all a pretty good guy to have around. "Oh, you know Ima out do your ass," my voice matching his sarcastic tone. He laughed and gave me a good shove as I hoped on my board and quickly sped down the ramp.
Rolling up to the fun-box I did a front side shove-it to a manual down the other side before power sliding a 180 into the half pipe. Making my usual run boning out my fakeys I 50-50'd across the top of the pipe to the quarter section. Pumping down as hard as I could I flicked my hind paw hard as I hit the kicker launching across the flat and landing halfway down the other side. I power stalled at the top of the speed ramp and lost my footing and kicked my board away. "Damnit! Every Goddamn time!" Logan smacked his leg as he laughed, "thought you was ready, what happened?" I flipped him off and made a smirking growl face at him. "Yeah, yeah, laugh it up foo." He continued to laugh as I picked up my board and noticed Aaron and Kayla walking up. Aaron was taller deer, built like a tank. Standing a good 6'1" with very well defined muscles you defiantly didn't want to get on his bad side. His black fur with stripes of red running the length of his back. All in all a look he pulled off very well. Draped under his left arm, his girlfriend Kayla. She was smaller fox with matted like purple fur than brightened up in the sunlight. Her soft grey stripes matched Aarons almost exactly, though he was built a lot bigger than her, her frame was slim with a good athletic tone to it. They made quite a cute couple to be honest. "Wicked fall bro, can I get an instant replay?" Aaron hollered as they neared the skatepark. Cocking my head to the side and flashing a smirked snarl "don't you start now too." "But you make falling look so graceful." Making his voice sound more gushy. "Yeah, but not as good as you face planting." We all laughed as Aaron and Kayla sat at the table and I made my way to join them.
I sat across from them giving Aaron a quick paw bump and hugging Kayla over the table, "so what's up guys? You two out causing hate and discontent?" Aaron and I laughed as Kayla replied "I have no idea what you're taking about." Giving her best innocent look only made us laugh more. "You know that just makes you look more guilty right?" I chuckled. "You guys talk to anyone else to see of their coming down?" Aaron just shrugged and threw his paws up, while Kayla smiled and shook her head. "Yeah, I talked to Brit and Brook. They should be here soonish. I'm pretty sure Faith and Daron should be on there way too." My ears perked up when she said Darons name. "You mean the 'boyfriend' I keep hearing about?" She nodded "yup that'd be him." I slowly stretched and cracked the joints in my paws, "hmmm bout time I get to meet this kid." I flashed a toothy grin, I guess you could say I was a little too protective of my sister, but hey, aren't all big brothers supposed to be that way? Aaron gave me a softer smile, "at least give him a chance before you scare him off with his tail between his legs." We both laughed and continued to converse amongst the ourselves while Logan put his head phones in and went back to skating. I peered over as Zach's car slowly made its way up to the parking area. Looked as though he had other furs with him, "look at what I found," yelling as he got out. Brittany and Brook soon filed out of the passenger side. "Oh would ya looky there," I got up as they entered the park and gestured towards Brittany and Brook. "Dude great ground score!" Brittany slapped her paw on my face, while Brook gave me a stare that practically yelled 'yeah keep talking, we'll see what happens'. Brook was a smaller wolf like Brittany but her fur was a much deeper black with grains of a fine blue. Her eyes were and interesting color as well, her left eye a marbled blue with a scar across it, while her right was a more hazel brown. Ears had a torn up look to them with gauged piercings near the base of each one. She looked as though she had a pretty beat up past, her personality match that as well. Very shy and very quiet, it defiantly took her a long time to get comfortable around new furs. Though once she did get used to you she had a very good slightly darker side of humor. Pretty entertain in the way that you never know if she's serious or not. The girls went and sat with Aaron and Kayla quickly getting lost in conversation while Zach and I pawed our way up to the ramps.
Logan, Zach and I all took turns trying to out do one another. Making runs back and forth attempting better tricks than the fur before, joking with each other all the while. My turn was coming up and I thought of trick I might try to do to one-up them both, come up the fun-box and kick my board up into a finger flip down the stair set. I gave it a good amount of thought as Zach gave my back a good pat, "you're up pup." I sighed long and hard and thought 'what the hell, why not' as i coasted down the ramp. I rolled over the fun-box doing a crooked stall on the quarter pipe before coming back, gaining a little air off the kicker I power slid up the speed ramp, trying to line myself up with the stair set. I rolled up to it and hit the flat, kicking my board up, catching it and quickly realizing I screwed this up bad. My flip speed was way off and I ended up landing on my board sideways, my hind paws rolled as I hit my board, and I went down hard. Slamming against the quarter pipe giving off a loud thud. "Fuckin' son of a b-" I laid there for a minute holding my left hind paw and ankle. Zach rushed over and Aaron had poked his head up upon hearing the commotion. "Shit man you alright?!" I peaked my eyes open to see Zach standing over me reaching his paw down. I let go of my paw taking his as he helped pull me up. I hobbled and winced for a few seconds as I put more weight on my left leg, "yeah I'll be alright. Doesn't feel broke or nothin'." I took a few steps in an effort to walk it off, I heard Logan yell from the other side of the park "Atta boy Krys!" I gave a small laugh and thumbs up as he took off down the ramp for another run. "You sure you're good?" Zach asked still standing at my side in case I fell. "Yeah, I'm good man. Thanks bro." He nodded before hoping on his board and hitting the ramps. I made my way to the table and took a seat, Aaron chuckled and made a praying motion with his paws, "took ya bro. Graceful." He laughed harder as I flipped him off, "I'll remember this you know that right?" Flashing him a small smirk. "Doubt it but alright," he said laughing more. I joined in on the laughter before standing back up.
Brittany gave me a worried look "you okay friend?" "Yeah, just really want something to drink. Gonna run to the gas station real quick." Trying to give some reassurance in my voice. "Okay, be careful." I nodded and started walking to my car I heard Zach call out, "hey, can you grab me a monster?" I nodded and hollered back, "yeah I gotch you." I started my car and began my way out of the parking lot. Wincing a little as my left hind paw pressed in and out on the clutch. Turning onto the main road, I tried to use my clutch paw as little as possible. Luckily the gas station wasn't far, I let my car coast into the parking lot and parked my car. Limping a little as I walked. The cashier that was working was a friend of my parents and knew me pretty well, giving me a concerned look as I made my way to the drinks. I returned up to the counter with a good assortment of drinks, "limping pretty bad there, you alright?" I nodded "yeah, just busted my ass pretty hard at the skatepark." She gave a warm smile and chuckled, "need to be more careful down there." I laughed and shook my head, "I'll do my best." As I handed her the cash, quickly ringing me out, she handed me my change. "Have a good rest of your day, and try to take it easy." Her warm smile grew. "No promises." I said jokingly as I waved and walked. I set the drinks in my passenger seat, letting out a small whimper as I sat into the driver seat. Twisting and rolling my ankle it gave a loud pop, instant pain coursed through my leg followed by relief. Maybe just needed a good cracking, I thought as it started to feel better. Firing up the car I drove back up to the skatepark.
Parking my car back in its spot I grabbed the bag of drinks as I got out. "Drinks are here." I hollered out. Everyone threw their paws up, while my sister poked her head up. "Better have gotten me one!" She called out. "Oh settle down I got you one," I smirked making my way into the skatepark. I set the bag down on the table and grabbed one and motioned for others to take one. Faith was the first one to grab one and gave me a hug and thanked me, I nodded and turned towards Daron who was shifting his stance awkwardly. I walked over to him giving him a quick look over. He was an averaged size wolf, only a couple inches shorter than me. His fur was a matte-like black with brightly die tips on the top of his head. He had a pretty slim body, a little bit on muscle tone, just enough to give them some definition. I gave him a sly toothy grin, "so you're the one who's dating my sister huh?" He nodded and his voice had a little bit of a shake to it. "Uh y-yeah. T-that'd be me." He stuck his paw out and I made it look like I was reaching for his paw, before quickly reaching up and wrapping my paw around his throat and holding him there, growling loudly. Daron tucked his tail between his shaky legs and let out a small whimper and whine. I held him there for a minute before letting him go and pulling him into a hug laughing softly. "I'm just messing with ya man, you're alright." His stance relaxed and he let out a loud sigh of relief. Faith came up and jabbed at my side, "are you done torturing my boyfriend?" I smirked and patted her head, "yeah, for now anyway." Laughing a little more as I took a seat at the table.
The day went on with us all hanging out at the skatepark, I did a bit more sitting at the table than skating. Being sure to try and let my ankle heal up a little more. Not hurting as much as before but still, I was enjoying the company of Aaron, Kayla, Brit, Brook, Daron, and Faith at the table. Our conversations were always pretty random and entertaining. Sometimes I'd just sit there and space off, laughing at how fast our conversations could turn from regular life stuff to completely dark and twisted jokes here and there. At a glance you'd think we all needed serious therapy. Other furs would stare as they pass by and we'd just give them a smile and slow wave. Watching their expressions was one of the best parts. I laid back from the conversation and took a second to think to myself. I was glad the day had taken such a good turn. Also glad I had such great friends. We all had little quirks here and there but in the end we all got along very well. A little dysfunctional family. I chuckled to myself, I was honestly looking forward to what entailed on this adventure. My thoughts drifted in another direction when a familiar white figure caught my eye.
There he was again, the arctic fox that moved in a few house down from me. He was sitting down on the other side of the park, this was the first time I got a good look at him. He was smaller fox, maybe 5'6" 5'7" I couldn't quite tell from the way he was sitting. He had a rather slender body with a descent amount of muscle tone. He wore a nice pair of skinny jeans that really hugged his form with a slim fit Asking Alexandra t-shirt. His fur a rather curious white with different swirls and shades of a deep silver. A slight look of concern formed across my face, as different thoughts began to cross my mind. D- did I really find him that cute? I'd always been a little curious but there was something about him that really caught my attention. He noticed me staring and we locked eyes. He had the same awkward awestruck gaze that I did. I really felt like I needed to get to know him, be with him... Could I really be... Attracted to him...?
Well this story definitely took a turn. Twisted more into a collaborative story with the help of some good friends. Special thanks to Aaron, Kayla, Brittany, Brook, Daron, Logan, Keith, and Zach for letting me include their characters and helping out with the story line. Hopefully more to come. Thanks for reading!
