The Life of Half star - (Inspired by Erin Hunters Awesome Story Series Warrior Cats) - 9 - New Clan, New Camp, Old Problems for a Leader

The time had gone by like a flying bird. The Clan had been excepted by the other Three Clans and everyone had been happy to move back into their old Camp because it was much bigger and much more familiar to them. Half star had shared tongues with Star clan and to his surprise, they had granted him a present.

They had given him back two of his Lifes but in return he had gotten a burden.

He had earned another Vision of his future and in that he had seen that the Clan would go true immense suffering if he would do the false decisions. Yet they denied him to see what decisions he had done wrong so he had to discover them by himself.

Red ear also had told him something that Half star couldn´t believe in. He had told him that Sunlight Claws soul was living in Sunshine Heart and that he should stop to deny his feelings for her.

Yet today would become a Day of a Test for our both apprentices. A test of Live and death.

Since the last 2 Sun high's, Half star had ordered more patrol´s in his territory because Eagle star had told him that his Warriors had thrown out a big Fox family of his Territory and they would probably move into his. Yet since today they had not shown itself but that was about to change.

The Camp was nearly empty. Only the elders, both medicine Cats, the two Queens with their kittens, Hawk paw and Silver paw were guarding it. The rest was out of patrol or hunting.

Wild berry Claw was laying in Black tooth's den to cure her green cough. The elders were all sitting in front of their den to watch the Camp activities. Night wing and the two apprentices were in the Nursery to watch and play with the kittens.

" Dammit! I would have lovely gone together with Half star and the others. It´s so boring here. " Silver paw said into the round.

" I know that it is boring but who else should look over us? Besides. It´s a great honor that Half star allows you to guard the Camp. " Night wing said.

"I know but still.... " Hawk paw cut her.

" See it this way. So you can train yourself when you are becoming Queen. You already know how to clean the kit´s and I bet that Night wing can teach you more. "

"HAWKPAW!!! " Silver paw blushed deeply and Night wing began to laugh.

After a while, Night wing said.

" I´m going to the dirt place. Can you please look over them for me?"

" Of course Night wing. " Silver paw said and Night wing left the Nursery.

A few Heartbeats later, Hawk paw suddenly caught a strange noise from the Barricade that was on the back of the Nursery and a strange scent flew into his Nose. He fixed the position of the Noise with his Eyes and Ears and saw something red moving in the barricade while he heard a low growl.

From one second to another, each muscle in his Body began to strengthen while he said over to Silver paw.

" You wanted some action, you get some action! Bring the Kits out here. Now!"

Silver paw reacted immediately because she knew the moving's he did to well. Yet she was unsure why he did them and asked.

" Why? Did something.... " He cut her hard and loud.

" NOW!!! "

At that moment, a black nose appeared out of the barricade followed by a dark red fur. That was the moment when it made click in her Head. Fox!!!

She quickly took one of the kits into her mouth and tried to carry another one like Night wing did but for her sake her mouth was to small, so she had no other choice then to take only one Kit and ran with it out of the Nursery.

Outside, she quickly but carefully dropped the kit and screamed as loud as she could into the Air.

" FOX!!! IN THE NURSERY!!! "

Only a second later, the first battle sounds were heard out of the Nursery and at that moment the Camp became alive.

The Three elders came running to her. Once reached, One ear stopped next to Silver paw while Shadow pelt and Three eyes kept on running towards the Nursery. Silver paw wanted to say something but One ear was quicker.

" Leave this Kit to me. Go and get the next one and bring it to Half stars Den. "

Silver paw nodded a quick yes and turned around. Only two seconds later she was standing in the entrance of the Nursery again and got a shock. The Fox wasn´t alone. A second one had made his way into the Nursery and she was able to hear that a third one was on his way through the barricade.

Luckily, the two elders and Hawk paw had been able to hold a corridor free for her to save the kits and once she had reached them, she heard that Night wing was right behind her. Without saying something, she took the kit that was close to her and ran again outside.

Once she was outside the den she got the next shock. More Foxes had come but not from the barricade side. 2 Foxes had made their way into the Camp but from the main entrance. Thanks to the fact that the elders had left their spot, no one had guarded the entrance, so they had an easy way in.

Again she dropped the Kit and screamed.

" FOX!!!! INSIDE THE CAMP!!!! "

At that moment she saw Night wing with two kittens in her mouth running up the hill, towards Half Stars Den and she quickly took the Kit took the Kit back into her mouth. Yet she was so concentrated on the little one that she overheard the Young Fox who was suddenly right behind her.

To her luck, Fir cone Fur came to her aid. Once she had taken the little one in her mouth she saw Fir Cone Fur coming her way in a very fast pace and before she they both collided she heard Fir Cone Fur screaming,

" GET DOWN !!!"

She quickly did as she was told and only a second later she heard an impact sound behind her, followed by a loud scream of the Fox.

Without looking back, she set on running, with the Kit in her mouth, towards Half stars' den. Once reached, she dropped the Kit next to the others and wanted to run back to the Nursery but once she had turned she got the final shock.

It hadn´t only been the two Foxes that had entered through the main entrance. All in all, 8 Foxes had entered the Camp. Three in the Nursery and the rest through the main entrance.

This cannot be only one Family!!! She thought to herself. They must have united with another family to attack us.

As quick as she had thought that, as quick she was driven back to reality. 3 of the Foxes had made their way up the hill and were now standing in front of her, One ear and Night wing. The other 2 had made their way to Black tooth's den and were already in the fight against Black tooth and Wild Berry Claw. At that moment, her instincts began to take the upper Hand and together with the other 2 Cats, she attacked the foxes.

Inside the Nursery

Once Silver paw had left the Nursery with the first Kit, Hawk paw had begun to fight the first Fox. Once the Fox had pushed his entire Head through the Barricade, Hawk paw had jumped at him and had begun to let his Claws fly over the Foxes Nose in hope that the Fox would set on retreat but the Fox didn´t moved back. Instead it made a hard push forward and hit Hawk paw so hard that he flew a few feet's backwards.

Luckily he landed on his Paws but now he had a new problem. The Fox was now standing completely inside the nursery and had already found the kittens.

The Fox was an older Male and it seemed like that he didn´t cared about Hawk paw because he directly moved towards the kittens, licking his lips as to say " Time for a snack. "

On that moment, Hawk paws training broke through him. Luckily Half star had shown him a few tricks to fight against a Fox and that tricks he would now set on use.

He jumped right behind the Foxes back and bit down hard into its tail. The Fox yelped in Pain and began to shake his tail hardly or at last he tried it. Hawk paw kept on holding the bite for a heartbeat and then he released the bite only to quickly jump on the back of the Fox. There he began to unload some quick Claw strikes with his front paws.

The Fox now yelped harder in pain and began to jump to the side to get rid of Hawk paw but with that, the Fox played right into Hawk paws. Once the Fox began to jump, Hawk paw jumped down from its back and his way down he let one of his front paws dick all the way down on the Foxes side. Unluckily for Hawk paw, he only managed to dick slightly into the Flesh because the Fox he jumped upwards and sideward at the same time and on the landing, he got surprised.

From out of nowhere, a Fox paw with ejected Claws appeared next to him and only a breath later it hit him hard on his side, letting him struggle hardly. Once he had recovered from that attack he saw with fear that a second Fox had appeared. A Female, which was probably the mate of the Male.

Now outnumbered, he decided to stand and Guard the Kits. That was why he quickly ran in front of them and began to hiss and scrap with his Claws on the Ground. Yet the Foxes were not looking surprised because they began to attack him but before they were in his reach, his reinforcements finally appeared.

In the corner of his Eyes he saw that Shadow pelt and Three eyes had entered the Nursery and only an Eye blink later, they were both hanging in the sides of the Foxes, biting and Clawing them as hard as they were able to.

Both Foxes were so surprised at the sudden side attack that they dropped down to the earth and began to roll wildly to the sides to get rid of their attackers. Yet, even if they were both elders, they were still able to fight and that they were showing them.

Claws were flying everywhere. Screams of Pain were in the Air and blood was flowing over the ground. Together with the elders, Hawk paw managed to hold a way free to the Kits so that Silver paw and Night wing were able to get three more of them out of danger but then it happened.

From out of nowhere, a third Fox, a young Male, appeared next to Hawk paw, who was attacking the side of the Female, and landed a hard Paw strike into his side. That strike let him fly into the wall of the den and down to the ground. For some seconds he was senseless but then he heard a very loud cry of pain that brought him back to reality and once he looked at the direction from the scream he got the shock of his young Life.

The young Fox had wanted to set a killing bite on him but before he had managed to do it, three eyes had thrown himself into the way and now he was hanging inside the Foxes mouth, screaming for his Life. Blood ran down Three Eyes Body and he desperately tried to get free but then the Fox bit down hard and closely after that bite he hammered Three Eye's Head against the sidewall of the den. Then the Fox spilled Three eyes' body out of his mouth and went over to the other male Fox to help him against Shadow pelt.

It all had happened to Hawk paw in Slow motion. The scream. The Bite. The silence afterwards. Now he slowly moved over to Three Eyes' death Body, still couldn´t believe of what he had seen a few moments ago.

Is this real? Did that really happen?

These things and more were flying through his Head until he heard Shadow pelt screaming.

" HELP ME HAWKPAW!!! "

Again he looked slowly at her and saw that she was desperately fighting against the three Foxes and she saw that she had a really deep cut on her left side.

Now coming back to sins, he shacked his Head one time and then ran past the Foxes to her aid.

" Is it bad?" He asked once he reached her and joined the fight.

" TTHHHEE.... This kit thought he would have an easy game with me......NNNGGGHHH....But this old Body still has it´s ......MMEEEOOOWWWW!!!! "

The female Fox had landed another hard strike on her left side while Shadow pelt had fought against the young Male and now the Blood was flowing out of her as like her life was leaving her Body. She dropped down to the ground and with her last breathes she managed to say to Hawk paw.

" At last...... I was.... Not....Useless..."

Back at the Day, when the Clan had left the old Camp, she had wanted to stay, always saying that she would be useless anyway but Half star had told her that each Cat would have as use for the Clan. No matter if Kit, Warrior or elder and that she had now been proven.

However, her death triggered something inside of Hawk Paws Body and mind. Now that two Warriors had died because of him, he became furies. Without thinking he jumped at the female Fox and let his Claws fly through her Face. Next he did the same to the older Male and then the young one. That he did for a few Heartbeats but it quickly became visible that the numbers game stood against him.

Luckily. Another Cat came to his Aid. A Cat that he hadn´t calculated with but had somehow hoped to see right now.

A bit earlier. At Half stars' den

Silver paw, Night wing and One ear had taken on the fight against the three Foxes. Night wing was fighting against an old female. One ear fought against a Male in middle age and Silver paw fought a young Male.

All three Cats were holding their grounds until a very loud pain cry filled the hole Camp. A Cry filled with so much pain that Silver paw became shocked for a second but before the Fox could made any use of it, she was back and gave him a hard strike on his Nose. The Fox struggled a bit backwards and she got enough time to look into the direction of the scream and then her heart began to race while she began to think.

Please!!!! Don´t let it be him!!!

What she then did came unexpected for everyone.

She made a hunch, began to scream a very loud War cry and set on running towards the Young Male with full speed. Once close, she jumped at him and hit his Body hard in the side.

The Fox yelped hardly in pain and together with Silver paw, he dropped down backwards from the stone. Luckily for both, they not dropped down from the full high but it was high enough to do some damage.

The Fox landed on his right side and broke his shoulder while Silver paw came out of it with only some bruises on her entire Body because she landed on the Fox. Once she had retired from the landing, she ran over to the Nursery with only one thought in mind.

Don´t let it be him!!!

Meanwhile, the Fox stood up and hoppled under some heavy yelping's out of the Camp.

Once Silver paw stood in the entrance of the Nursery, she quickly looked around and relaxed for a second because she found Hawk paw still alive but then she found the death Bodies of Three eyes and Shadow pelt and she also saw that three Foxes were trying to attack Hawk paw and the three Kits who were gathering behind him, screaming in fear for their Mothers.

What then happened, happened again on instinct and their training.

She quickly jumped behind the young male and bit down as hard as she could into the its tail. She bit so hard that she cut it and when the male began to scream in pain, Hawk paw slashed his right paw´s Claw over the Nose of the Fox, leaving three bleeding lines on it.

That was enough for the young Male. With his hurting tail between his legs, he ran out of the nursery and out of the Camp.

Now with two against two, the fight became equal but not for long.

Together, Silver paw and Hawk paw stood their ground but now came their youth into play. The fight had already drained their stamina and now they were both near empty while the two Adult Foxes were still looking fresh. Yet the Two apprentices denied to give up and so they fought on but on one point they both began to ask themselves of what they both should do.

Then it happened. They both did a last hard attack to push the Foxes back and it worked. Then the two looked at each other under some heavy panting's and within a second they knew what to do. Together they ran quickly in front of the kits and made a hunch together with some heavy hiss. Then, once the Foxes were near again, they turned around and laid their Bodies over the three Kits, burying them under them. Afterwards they were again looking into others Eyes in wait of the final attack of the Foxes but somehow, that attack never came.

Instead they both suddenly heard a combined War cry and once they turned their Heads backwards to look, they saw the picture of their Lifes.

Right in front of them were Dust tail, Half star, Oak wing and Ravening fighting against the two Foxes. At last. The Patrols had come back to save them.

Now sure that they were save. Hawk paw and Silver paw slowly slid down from the Kits and collapsed next to them under some heavy breathing.

Meanwhile, the four Toms had easy Game by pushing the Foxes back and out of the Camp. No wonder because they were fresh and more then angry. Especially once they had seen their death comrades. Outside, the picture was the same. The Foxes were pushed back and once the last Fox ran out of Camp, Half star shouted.

" 8 Warriors after them!! Make sure that they leave our Territory and our forest forever !!"

Quickly, a troop was formed and after them. Once the Troop was out of Camp. The cats began to gather in the Camp and both Medicine Cats began to do some checkups.

However, Night wing began to carry the Kits back to the Nursery but when she disappeared for the first time in the den, she didn´t came out again.

" MY KITS??? WHAT HAPPEND TO MY KITS ???" Wild berry Claw came screaming in fear from Black tooth's den and wanted to run to the Nursery but before she could even reach the group of Cats in the middle of the Camp, Black tooth stopped her by moving in her way saying.

" Stop right now!!! You are still ill !!!Do you really want.... " Wild berry Claw cut her hard by saying in a hard Voice.

" Get out of my Way or I.... " She was also cut but not by Black tooth.

A Shock was running through the mass of Cats because they saw the result of the fight in Nursery. Hawk paw had stepped out of the Nursery and on his Back was the death Body of Three eyes laying. Behind him was Silver paw with Shadow pelt on her back. Slowly, the two apprentices move to the Group of Cats and once reached they both slowly dropped the Bodies. Then the two went a bit away but not far because Half star stopped them by asking.

" How did this happened?"

None of the two Apprentices said something but in Hawk Paws Eyes were Tears standing and Half star saw that. That was why he asked again but this time in a more feeling Voice.

" What happened Hawk paw? Tell me."

First, Hawk paw wasn´t able to say something but then it broke out of him.

" They both died because of me.... They died because I wasn´t able to.... To.... IT WAS ALL MY FAULT!!! I SHOULD LAYING THERE!!! NOT THEM!!! "

Half star began to smile on that answer and after a heartbeat he said to him.

" It´s alright Hawk paw. "

" Alright??? Nothing is alright!!! I... " Half star cut him

" It is alright. Look at their faces and tell me what you see there. "

Hawk paw did as he was told and first he didn´t saw something but then he recognized that both Cats were smiling. Seen that he looked back at Half star and wanted to ask him why but Half star already knew what he wanted to ask and said on Eye contact.

" They are both smiling because you gave them the ultimate opportunity. You gave them the chance to die for the Clan. You gave them the chance to die like a Warrior. A Death which everyone of us is hoping to earn someday. "

" But.... But I.... " Hawk paw tried to say something but again Half star cut him.

" Listen. I know how you feel right now but let me ask you this. Will ever do the same mistake again?"

"..... I don´t know...... "

" Then listen to this. Life is never fair. You cannot every time do the right thing. There will more dyeing around you and you will not be able to save them but one thing I already know over you. "

" What do you know?"

" That I will tell you tomorrow. Now you two. Go and share a last time tongues with them and then go wash yourself. Afterwards let Black tooth do some checks on you and then go and take some rest."

" But... But we are.... " Silver paw tried to speak but Half star cut her too.

" Maybe you are not tired now but soon sleep will caught you. Believe me that and who will honor them more by burying them, then the once who they gave their Lifes for?"

Without saying something on, the two shared one last time tongues with Three eyes and Shadow pelt. Then they left the Camp to was themselves in the River, like they always did after their training. Once they were out, Half star moved over to River fish and said to him.

" Could it be that we are getting old?"

" When I look at them I would say .... Maybe yes. And before you ask. Tomorrow would be the right time. They're both more than ready to become one. "

" HAH!!! I know that you would say that. Well.... That brings me to a serious problem. "

" What kind of problem?"

" For him I have a Name but she.... I don´t know for sure. "

"Well.... What should I say... She has changed so hardly in the last few Moons that I´m not sure myself. I would describe her now I would say that she is like a feather now. Solid and strong on her Base but also Soft and protectively. "

"HHHMMMM ......! So I never thought of her. Thanks River fish. You helped me very much. "

Later that Day, evening

Hawk paw and Silver paw were both laying in their Nests but they were not able to sleep. Some deep Questions were going through their Heads and at one time, they couldn´t stay quiet anymore.

" Silver paw? Are you sleeping?" Hawk paw asked and looked at her.

" No. I´m awake. "

" Can I....Maybe... Sleep next to you?"

She began to smile in pure happiness while she answered.

" Of course you can. "

Hawk paw then moved up from his Nest, took some big pieces of it into his mouth and moved over to her. Once their she moved a bit in her Nest to give him some space and together with his moss he managed to build a double Nest. Once done he laid himself down and even if they both hadn´t wanted it, their sides began to touch each other and they both began to purr lowly.

After a Heartbeat or two he began to speak again.

" Silver paw.... Thank You. "

"For what? "

"For coming to my aid in the Nursery. I wouldn't had made it without your help.... I .... PUUURRRR !!!!"

She had moved her Head under his and while he purred very loud, she said to him.

" I would always come to your Aid Hawk paw. You see.... When I heard the death scream of one of them I.....I was only able to think of one thing. I hope it´s not you.... At that moment... I became.... Hawk paw.... I love you. "

The last three words were running down his entire Body and manifested itself deep inside his heart. Not to mention that his purring became much louder while she talked on.

" I want to stay at your side forever.... I want to die on the same day as you... I want to.... Become a Queen with your Kits.... "

Once she had said that, she moved her Head up and looked him deep in the Eyes but not for long because he began to lick over her entire face. Once he was licking her left check she began to lick his check as well and once they had both finished licking, they laid their Heads onto their Paws and as close as possible. Then, finally sleep overcame them and before they were both out, Hawk paw said to her.

" Thank You. I Love you too. "

What the two didn´t knew, they had been spied.

Half star had played mouse from the apprentices' dens entrance and now he was smiling all over his entire face while he slowly walked away and got lost in his own memories.

The next Day, Sun high

In the morning, Hawk paw and Silver paw had buried the Bodies of Three Eyes and Shadow pelt. Right afterwards they had both cleaned the den of the elders and then they had gone to hunt like always but once they both returned with some Prey in their mouths, they were both caught with a very big surprise.

Once they both had dropped their Prey on the Fresh-kill Pile, half star appeared on the High rock and called out.

" Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey join here beneath High rock for a Clan meeting! "

They were both asking themselves if something had happened and walked the group of Cats that were gathering in front the stone. Whisperings were going around of why Half star had called them but they became quickly silent when Half star began to speak.

" As you all know. Yesterday we had been attacked by some Foxes and we lost two good Warriors to them. "

Hawk paws look became said on that because he still felt guilty for them.

" But even if this is a tragedy, this attack had shown me two things. First is that this Clan has the will and the strength to survive and second.... "

Half stars look moved over from the group to Hawk paw and Silver paw and slowly they both came clear of why Half star had called out for a meeting.

" Well... Second is.... That the Clans future is more than save and that my trusts in this two young Apprentices was more than right. Hawk paw, Silver paw. Please step forward. "

The Two did as they were told, still a bit unsure of what he wanted from them but once Half star jumped down from the stone, positioned in front of them and said the traditional words, they were surprised and in the end proud.

" I, half star, leader of Water clan, call upon my warrior ancestors to look down on this apprentices. They have trained hard to understand the ways of your noble code, and I commend them to you as a warrior in their turn."

Half star then looked at Hawk paw and said.

" Hawk paw, do you promise to uphold the warrior code and to protect and defend your Clan, even at the cost of your life? "

" I do." Said Hawk paw in return and Half star looked over to Silver paw.

" Silver paw, do you promise to uphold the warrior code and to protect and defend your Clan, even at the cost of your life?"

" I do. " She answered.

" Then by the powers of Star Clan, I give you your warrior name. Hawk paw, from this moment you will be known as Hawkeye. Star Clan honors your sharp Eyes and spirit and we welcome you as a full warrior of Water clan. "

Half star rested his mouth on Hawk Paws Head and he licked over Half stars left shoulder. Then Half star moved over to Silver paw and said.

" Silver paw, from this moment you will be known as Silver feather. Star Clan honors your kindness and Speed, and welcome you as a full warrior of Water clan."

Half star then also rested his mouth on her Head and she also licked over his shoulder.

The Clan then began to great the Two by their new Names.

" HAWKEYE "

" SILVERFEATHER "

Once the Clan had become silent again, Half star said to the two.

" Tonight you two stand a vigil in silence and Guard our sleeps. "
