Welcome to part four of the character introductions! With my patrons on Patreon putting the final touches to the various cast of characters, I'd like to take this time to introduce you to the two Body Guards (and one twin) of the stories-- two characters for SF and one for FA:

Guardsman Khosk and his twin Guardsman Vihas will be the Body Guard(s) of Mac on SF and Cecil will be Kenzie's Body Guard on FA. As a reminder, each story will be self-contained and neither affect not be affected by the other; they are two completely separate tales!

Keep your eyes open for more characters over the rest of this week!

Feyrahl - The Bodyguard (SF), Khosk Firemane & his Twin Brother Vihas Icebrand

In addition to enlisted military, the Feyrahlian Empire has an extensive private police force and all noble houses have their own house guard-- the royal family is no exception. One of the chief guardsmen among the royal house is Khosk, a formidable Lion who appears to be just shy of 30. He is always impeccably presented and stands with perfect posture, making his imposing 7'3" (221 cm) height all the more impressive, and the discipline he shows at physical training certainly explains his large-but-lean build and his respectable 330 pound (150 kg) weight. The description is also valid for his twin brother, Vihas, who looks like a carbon copy of his brother, though he is not usually quite as crisp in stance or appearance.

Both Khosk and Vihas report directly to the Emperor but are also expected to follow directions of the Commander. The twins are both covered in rich golden fur which is darkest along their spine and shifts to a lighter shade on their chests, abdomens, and groins. They both have thick, brownish-red manes, though Khosk cuts his shorter and keeps it in clean presentation while Vihas wears his longer with several tight braids, each braid ending wrapped around a small crystal, which tend to clink together musically when he moves. Both brothers tend to dress similarly: casual clothing includes a vest or tunic and short breeches or a sarong depending on the weather; when on duty both wear treated leather and cloaks.

Khosk wears a red cloak at all times, while Vihas favors a left metal pauldron and gauntlet to hide the fact that he lost his arm some years ago-- he uses Water Magic with Ice Aspect magic to have animated ice move the articulated armor from within to make up for this loss; as such, his pupils almost always have a pale blue glow emanating from them as he keeps this effect active constantly. Both brothers have numerous scars interspersed throughout their fur from their years of service and, beneath their fur, the twins each have a tattoo-- Khosk on his left arm, and Vihas on his right; when holding paws wrist-to-wrist the tattoos connect to depict a dragon with wings spread. Khosk has no piercings while Vihas has no VISIBLE piercings while wearing britches or a sarong.

The two twins come from a well-regarded noble family and are both third in line for control of the household behind an elder sister and elder brother. Having been brought up in high society both are well adept at courtly behavior, manners, and etiquette. Khosk has always been very opinionated, headstrong, and willful while Vihas has tended to reserved, introspective, and distant. The former has had difficulties in lasting relationships due to his overbearing nature and issues with possessiveness and jealousy while the latter rarely lets anyone other than his brother get close enough to form lasting bonds. Despite this, both are considered very desirable bachelors so they have no shortage of suitors, though the list often churns quickly.

Despite near-identical looks, the brothers couldn't be more different. Khosk, known as "Firemane" due to his incredible skill with Fire Magic and he often uses Ember aspect magic in combat; Vihas, however, has earned the nickname "Icebrand" due to his familiarity with Ice aspect magic and his cold demeanor. While both brothers were often in line to join the elite royal guard, a combat encounter protecting folk near the castle from a violent gang resulted in Khosk almost losing an eye (he still has a deep scar across his right eyebrow and cheek) and did end up costing Vihas an arm; since only oen brother could join the royal guard, that role was given to Khosk, who could use both paws in combat. While some might suspect that Vihas would be bitter about it, there are no signs that he is anything other than proud of his brother and continues to support him to this day.

Relationship-wise, the twins can come as a packaged deal, separate servings, or just 'pick one'. Each has their own best angle of approach with different obstacles to be overcome. Khosk is incredibly overbearing and doesn't do well with being challenged unless it's by someone he considers a suitable rival, or someone he cares enough about to not get worked up over having his commands ignored. Vihas, on the other hand, is distant, cold, and stoic; he is hard to get to know and even harder to reach emotionally. Both brothers have a strong regard and love for one another and, so long as Mac is well regarded, neither will get in the way of the other's potential relationship; it is also not out of the question to successfully manage the affections of both brothers. It is important to note, however, that, while Vihas may not be particularly upset if Mac has a relationship with someone other than him and/or his brother, Khosk will give Mac an ultimatum if he finds out that the Human is seeing anyone other than him (or his brother).

Khosk will have an endless list of pejoratives to use on Mac if he actively dislikes him.

Vihas will not interact at all with Mac if he actively dislikes him.

Khosk will refer to Mac as "Fool", "Dolt", "Stupid" or "Brainless" if he doesn't like him.

Vihas will provide a closed posture and casual gestures with Mac if he doesn't like him

Khosk will refer to Mac as "Human" if he is only willing to put up with him.

Vihas will provide basic non-verbal responses to Mac if he's willing to put up with him.

Khosk will refer to Mac as "Kid" if he tolerates him.

Vihas will grunt in a variety of tones and inflections if he tolerates Mac.

Khosk will refer sarcastically to Mac as "Sir" if he views him neutrally.

Vihas will respond with simple answers if he views Mac normally, but will not instigate talks.

If Khosk regards Mac positively he will refer to him as "Millman".

If Vihas regards Mac positively may refer to him as "Sir Millman".

Khosk will return to calling Mac "Human", but with a more positive inflection if he appreciates him.

Vihas will refer to Mac as "Sir MacKenzie" if he appreciates him.

Khosk will call Mac "MacKenzie" if he likes him.

Vihas will call Mac "MacKenzie" if he likes him.

Khosk will start referring to Mac possessively if he regards him affectionately.

Vihas will start referring to Mac as "Mac" if he regards him affectionately.

If Khosk sees Mac as a potential lover, he will refer to him as "My Gem".

If Vihas sees Mac as a potential lover, he will refer to him as "My Heart".

Feyrahl - The Body Guard (SF), Cecil Blackguard

One of the newest additions to the Royal Guards is a Ferret named Cecil who appears to be in his late 20s. Rather unspectacular, Cecil is fairly short for a Feyrahlian, standing at just under 5'7" (about 170 cm) and his slight build means he comes in at just under 140 lbs (63 kg). Even so, the Ferret is in incredibly fit. He was hired by the Emperor and is not well regarded by most of the other guards or the military, and is only tolerated by Commander Victor because the Ferret is one of the few servicemen who is shorter than he. Cecil takes great care to present himself professionally whenever he is on duty with a well-cared-for uniform, his fur impeccably tidy, and his musk glands expressed before he shows for his shift. When not working, however, he favors simple commoner clothing and has no regard for standing on ceremony or trying to impress.

Cecil has a sable mask coloration common among ferrets, though his fur has a slightly brownish tint to it. He also has hetochromia; one of his eyes is gray while the other is burgundy. His fur, while thick, is patchy in some areas, hinting at his difficult early years and he is thin enough that the curve of his bones can be visible in some places such as along his spine and his rib cage. The Ferret also has numerous scars all over his body from various scrapes, cuts, abbraisions, and burns, further reminders of his rough life since before being recruited to the guards. Cecil had two holes in each ear from where he once had earrings but they are now notches due to all four rings having been pulled out forcefully during a particularly rough lowpoint in his past. The Ferret has a section of fur missing from his right bicep where he'd once had a gang tattoo, which has since been branded off of him. He wears no jewelry, save for a bracer on his left hand which bears the imperial insignia, identifying him as having been oathbound to the royal family.

While most royal guards are pulled from noble families or war-heroes who have lost the ability to traverse fields on long military campaigns, Cecil fits into neither of these categories. By crazy happenstance, the Ferret was in the right place at the right time to save the life of the Emperor during a failed assassination attempt; he was in the process of being transferred from a prison to a dungeon and managed to trip a would-be assassin with the hobbling chains. Much to the chagrin (and incredible objection) of almost everyone on his staff, the Emperor commuted Cecil's sentence and had him join the royal guard. Due to the general distaste most of the household and military have for the Ferret, he is known as "Blackguard" so that anyone meeting him will know of his past criminal offenses to the empire.

Despite all the many reasons Cecil has to be frustrated with life and angry with everyone who has beaten him down, the Ferret is surprisingly empathetic and kind. While few give him a chance, those who get to know him find it difficult not to like him and he has earned the begrudging respect (or at least tolerance) of those who have worked closely with him and he has the distinct honor of being one of the few people outside the Emperor's inner circle who has the Bat's trust-- though, except for Commander Victor, that trust is not mirrored by the rest of those in charge, and the Emperor's wife is particularly opposed to accepting him.

Based on the few times Cecil has spoken about his past, the Ferret grew up in an orphanage, where he stayed until it closed down. As one of the older youth he was responsible for the younger orphans, and continued to care for them as well as he could when they were turned out onto the streets. He joined a gang to gain their protection for himself and the other youths, ultimately being forced to turn to a life of crime. He was apprehended along with the rest of the gang, set to live out the rest of his days in a dungeon, but Cecil's life did ultimately take a different trajectory after helping to save the Emperor's life. He has been a guardsman ever since, and his vow to serve the royal line means he will likely hold that role until the day he dies.

While most commoners only ever develop the faintest spark of magical skill, Cecil is an exception, having proven himself to be quite the skilled magi with his affinity for Water Magic. Adept at Flow, Ice, and Illusion magic, the Ferret's general dislike of physical combat does not hamper him much since he has quite the arsenal of tricks to employ and, should he be forced to engage in melee, he can create weapons and armor made out of pure ice so long as the air has at least a little humidity. While he was forced to hone his spell casting prowess to serve him as a guardsman, he greatly enjoys using his magic for other purposes and has occasionally been spotted putting on little illusion magic shows for the children in and around the palace-- at least until their parents (or their servants) show up and usher the 'criminal' along.

Cecil's low-born status is a constant problem for him in the world of courtiers and, as such, he spends most of his time out of sight; this may certainly be one of the main reasons why he's assigned as the bodyguard for Kenzie. He does not do well among high society and, despite working hard to try and understand etiquette, it is exceedingly difficult for him to get along with the upper crust as he can't even read. This doesn't stop him from trying his best, however, and he strives to do as well as he can. His criminal background makes things even harder for him and, if not for his bracer, he would probably be held in even lower regard by the nobility who encounter him.

Cecil can be an incredibly easy love interest when it comes to building rapport, friendship, and a lasting relationship, but he must overcome his harsh impostor syndrome and be willing to open up to Kenzie if she is interested in him that way. Cecil is one of the few characters from whom Kenzie has the capacity to 'order' intimacy, but this will not result in a positive, lasting relationship outcome. Only by uncovering some of his most well-kept secrets and encouraging him to speak freely will he trust her (and himself) enough to be willing to accept that level of closeness. The Ferret is an incredibly kind individual and very forgiving, thus he will be incredibly gracious when it comes to missteps or faux pas, making it likely that Kenzie will conclude the story with him regarding her positively; taking that a step forward and creating a lasting, meaningful romantic relationship which has the capacity to be simultaneously emotional and meaningful. interspersed with a little bit of sweet-and-silly humor.

Cecil will refer to Kenzie as "Lady" bluntly if he has absolutely no regard for her.

Cecil will call Kenzie "Ma'am" he doesn't particularly like her.

Cecil will respond to Kenzie as "Miss" if he only puts up with her.

Cecil will respond to Kenzie as "Miss Fuller" he only tolerates her.

Cecil will respond to Kenzie by calling her "Lady Fuller" if he considers her neutrally.

Cecil will call Kenzie "My Lady" if he regards her positively.

Cecil will finally start calling Kenzie "Mistress" once he appreciates her.

If Cecil likes Kenzie he will begin calling her MacKenzie.

If Cecil regards Kenzie affectionately he will start calling her Kenzie.

Should Cecil see Kenzie as a potential lover he may start referring to her as "My Love".
