Weighting to Salvage Pt1

As Luna greets a new co-worker on her otherwise boring salvage job, an encounter with a mysterious crystal will put her weight into the triple digits!

How shall she cope with her new form in the cramped space ship?

“Alright, this looks like a good spot!” Luna proclaimed over her suit’s inbuilt comm, she floated over to the Slightly warped and bent structural beams, in the dead hulk of a vessel.

Naomi, floated close behind clutching her equipment a tightly as possible in their bulky EVA suits, “So we just cut these beams apart?” Naomi asked to Luna, as she inspected beams for any damage, nothing to drastic.

“Yep, this is the good stuff, Re-enforced titanium and good amount” Luna replied as she slowly hoisted her hands over to Naomi, to grab her laser cutter.

“What about the Structural integrity?” Naomi asked, she knew this job could be dangerous, but she would rather be cautious than dead.

“Don’t worry, Rick and his boys came through ship and set up braces.” Luna explained as she grasped her Laser cutter in booth hands, it was about the size of a chainsaw but instead emitted a small red laser blade that could cut almost anything in half. Her magnetic boots activating to keep her steady, Naomi floated closely but cautiously watched her partner work. Luna held the cutter up, flicking the two buttons and switches to turn it on. The blade bursted forth from the mouth of the cutter, illuminating the formerly lifeless room with a bright crimson light, which danced between the shadows and other beams, as Luna gently pushed it into the bottom of the metal beam. Naomi blinked as the blade cleanly sliced through, leaving the titanium entirely intact. Luna then repositioned herself, turning off the cutter and pushing against the floor to launch herself to the roof, she moved in slow motion, a slow dance that required experience and a sharp mind to understand, moving in Zero-G was an acquired taste, but Luna handled herself gracefully. As soon as she reached the roof, she’d already locked into position and began cutting away the titanium pillar, A burst of red light once again breathing life into the room.

“Help me with this” Luna asked causing Naomi to spring into action, grabbing the bottom of the support column as Luna floated down.

Naomi held it steady until Luna issued a new command “Just anchor it on the floor, we’ll set the rest there as well”

“Sorry!” Naomi exclaimed as she placed the beam down against the floor and placed a tether which kept the beam against the floor.

“It’s fine, I’m glad you’re taking things slow and following my lead” Luna said as they repositioned to another metal beam, in the room. The slow and laborious dance continued for a while, with every beam cut away and stashed to the ground Naomi grew more confident and efficient, Luna gracefully sliced through each beam, leaving perfect cuts in her wake. They then swapped, with Naomi trying to use the laser cutter, she went rather slow but still managed to get mostly clean slices. After a good few hours of work, the whole room was cleared of support beams.

“So, what next?” Naomi asked, trying to seem eager as she floated through the vacuum.

“Well... wait for the shift manager to call us back.” Luna said as she twirled through the room enjoying the feeling of weightless silence.

“Shouldn’t be that much longer” Luna commented, as Naomi ventured slightly out of the room, her curiosity eclipsed her previous attitude of ultimate attention.

“Not sure there’s much point in exploring” Luna said over the comm as Naomi floated through a nearby hallway.

“I’ll be safe as possible!” Naomi replied as she surveyed the corridor, the ship hand stripped of almost everything except the hull, floor and walls. The hallway sported dozens of spots where stray copper wires poked out from the holes in the walls, previously attached to lights or some other gizmos. As she glided through the empty dreamlike halls, the only sounds her own breathing and the muffled sound of salvage tools. Naomi stopped in her tracks as she saw an illuminated room, she at first assumed it was another member of her salvage crew, but that was quickly proven wrong. It was a bright blue light the filled the room, as she entered her eyes were drawn to the lights source a crystal the size of her chest, locked within a thick glass case and on a large podium that had dozens of jumbled wires and cables that ran into the floor. Her eyes were captivated by the crystal, it looked so beautiful and pure! Naomi floated closer bringing her helmet close to the glass so she could get a better look, she rested her heavy space suit gloves on the glass panel, she wanted to break through and grab the Gem but lacked the means do so, Her eyes were then caught by a panel mounted to the side of the podium, Eureka! She slowly tapped the screen, just as her neurons told her ‘No power on the ship dummy!’ After that mistake Naomi was slightly saddened, guess she wasn’t getting that beautiful stone.

With that failure to remove her prize, she decided to float back to Luna right as she began talking on the comm again “Come on, shifts over!”

“Alright!” Naomi blurted out as she struggled to move quickly through the vacuum encased ship.

“I guess you found nothing?” Luna replied sarcastically, as Naomi continued to move through the corridor in slow motion.

Naomi thought for a moment, she assumed if that crystal was there then it was probably not something to be concerned about and Naomi had already spent the day asking Luna if everything, she’d done was right. Naomi casually said “Nope” right as she rounded the corner to Where Luna was. The Pair then took a short journey down to the derelict ships' hanger, assembling with the dozen other faceless Space suits Naomi now worked with. Once everyone had assembled, they finally exited the ship.

Naomi felt strange as the exited into the true nothingness of space, floating through it with the group made it feel weirder, something so banal to these people was utterly wondrous to Naomi. It was like swimming but without the anything.

Luna in turn enjoyed how they glided through space, it was calming, nothing to interrupt their Celestial swim. If Luna could, she’d live her entire life out here, it was beautiful. A vast ocean of Nothingness with thousands of planets, anomalies and stars and people to meet. She always had a soft spot for the weightless feeling of dancing among the stars.

As the approached the large and blocky silhouette of their salvage ship, it was purpose built to support those who Ripped apart other vessels, it’s two large frontal prongs that hosed its manipulator beams and its expansive storage hanger on the vessel’s bottom was its defining features. The Scapar. Naomi watched as the drew closer to one of its port side Airlocks, watching how Luna moved with a graceful energy when in Zero-G, at least for Luna the thrill of being somewhere so Alien and strange, never wore off.

Eventually the group of a dozen space suit clad figures reached the large circular airlock door, waiting for it to open “Alright, group 2 is at the port side airlock A1, opening door” the calming professional voice said through the comm, light flashed for a second before the door moved apart the several different layers retracting into the wall. Everyone quickly filtered inside, the airlock was spacious and empty, angular metal panels made up the walls, which were lined with lightly faded safety instructions and spacewalk information. Naomi jumped slightly as the large door closed behind her, whirring as the multiple sections locked back into place, she jolted again as the air began hissing into the room, The weird sensation of weightless swimming gone, replaced with the feeling of a 60kg space suit. “Alright, cycle complete, opening door” the voice once again said with a sense of discipline and class in their words. The door finally opened, and everyone filtered out again, Naomi moved quickly to her locker, the suit was not far off being heavier than she was. Luna in turn slowly haunted through the airlock and into the locker room, it was long corridor that sat perpendicular to the Airlock, the side that faced the airlock was where all the space suits would be hung up and stored, the other side was where people could change back into casual clothing and then return to ships sprawling corridors.

As Naomi reached the empty spot where her space suit was, she began quickly fighting to pull it off, but it seemingly matched her in strength, she was able to pull the helmet off, showing off a young 20-year-old otter with short curly hair and a face red from exertion. Luna noticed the rookie’s trouble and walked over helped unclasp the back of the suit, letting Naomi finally escape. The shorter otter’s face turned red watching as the seemingly faceless space suit loomed over her, while she stood in nothing but underwear and a bra, displaying in full Naomi’s rail thin physique, Flat chest and rear along with a lack of muscle. Luna eventually realised she should stop staring at Naomi, remembering the opaque visor. Luna pulled off the Suit far faster than Naomi, stretching her back as she pulled it past her hips. Naomi was once again entranced by Luna’s appearance, she was a Arctic fox and Poodle moth hybrid, being mostly fox shaped apart from her extremely bushy and fluffy fur, Her moth antenna above her fox ears and a pair of small wings on her back, she had a good amount of muscle and was of generally average build but her large amount of floof, gave her the illusion of size. Her chest was pretty ample, and rear was big, but the fluff obscured her true size, which made Naomi even more so curious, hoping to learn more about her new mentor.

“You did very good for your first time” Luna said to Naomi as she hung her suit on the rack Infront of her.

“Thanks...” Naomi replied, she was never great with taking complements, or being so underdressed “Sorry for staring”

“It’s fine! I know I look a little imposing but I try and remain calm and kind, no matter what” Luna explained as she walked over to door to their personal locker room, Naomi close behind “Keeping a level head is very important when you’re out in some ship” The large moth-fox said as she tapped a panel by the door, watching as the two sections slid apart, Stepping into the personal locker they were greeted by the slight hum of conversation as people pulled their off duty clothes on, it was a large room but with the crew being assigned lockers next to each other, it felt cramped. Luna made her way through to her locker, gently excusing past a few, other furs pulling on shirts and pants. Naomi quietly lumped through to her locker, she felt uncomfortable seeing how everyone in the room we’re tall and broad-shouldered, they were all in good shape and could handle the extensive and exhausting work of shipbreaking. As Luna pulled her oversized t-shirt and sweatpants on, she sighed, another job well done and now time for some relaxation. As everyone filtered out of the room Luna had lost track of her smaller otter friend, as she entered the sterile hallway marked with major directions and filled with a dozen salvage crew, she noticed her at the front of the pack.

But before she could Get back to her, new protégé and friend she nearly bumped into Lucas, her supervisor. “Oh shi.. crap sorry for nearly knocking you down Lucas!” Luna’s said as she screeched to a halt, Lucas was a tall, lean and somewhat annoying swift fox (despite his species he was never one for speed or timeliness, which explained the current corridor confrontation). He leaned against the wall, with a face that red bad news, his tablet in one hand and another fiddling with the strap on his orange and grey jumpsuit.

“Hello, Luna” he said in a somewhat sombre tone

“Lucas” Luna replied

“I need to talk to you about an issue with someone on your crew”

“What is this about?” Luna asked, sensing corporate was about to hand someone a pink slip

“Well, it’s your new buddy... Naomi Richardson” Lucas said, he always tried to be a good guy to the people under him but as always, the upper management wanted productivity and profitability over happy or healthy workers, which meant he was in a perpetual balancing act.

“What about her? She’s new but learns quick and we’re on a long haul, not like we can just put a call out for replacements” Luna explained, fearing that Lucas was going to start talking about firing.

“Well, your kind of right... but not yet!” Lucas said straitening his back and running a hand through his messy blonde hair, “Her Physique isn’t built for this type of work”

“I know, but she’s got a quick head and is eager to work” Luna shot back, it was hard not to lash out at Lucas even if he was trying to do his best for those under him.

“What I mean is that she’s alright now... But as soon as someone “Better” show’s up, her prospects are done and those assholes in management won’t understand!” Lucas got a little heated as he explained the situation and complained, but he quickly recomposed himself “I’m sorry, just maybe get her to the gym?” Lucas

“It's alright, I’ll see what we can do” Luna replied, they Began walking through the hallway, “Do you want to head to the lounge? You seem stressed”

“I’ll pass but thanks for the offer, just want to have some alone time tonight” Lucas said, smiling a little, he gave Luna a small wave as he went off towards his bedroom, with no one around and a new bit of stress on her shoulders, Luna decided to follow Lucas’s lead and head back to her room for a quiet night. The long hallways of the Scapar were always eerie the corridors were all simple and utilitarian, a floor of cold metal panels and plain metallic walls occasionally covered in pipes, wires or terminals. The main way of navigation was the colour coded directions on the lower part of the wall, Luna had been on the ship for 9 months and still got lost sometimes. She walked rather slowly through the corridors heading straight for the employee quarters area, luckily everyone on the ship got private quarters, although cramped and very basic. Luna just wanted to lie down on her bed, maybe check what comp vids are available, she loved getting snuggly and relaxed. As she rounded the corner into the Crew quarters, she spotted a familiar Raccoon and a fox who worked in engineering, the two ladies we’re currently making out halfway in a doorway, Luna simply smiled as they noticed her arrival.

“Hehe, uh sorry?” The raccoon said as the pair pulled away from each other and stood straight, they’re faces were red and they both had uncomfortable smiles.

As Luna opened her door she turned back to them, “Probably should’ve closed your door?” She said in a joking tone, the raccoon smiled while the fox girl just looked redder, they then quickly shuffled into their room closing the door behind them. Luna walked over to her small bed, surrounded by shelves display tonnes of interesting things shed found and saw while working around the galaxy, she flopped down onto her bed grasping her cute Scraggle plushie, it was a four-legged crustation that’d became famous for being excellent pets, being loyal, tough and caring (Plus very cute). She clutched it in one hand as she lay on her bed for a moment, looking around her room that was filled with posters and decor, she enjoyed the calm feeling her small but densely packed quarters gave, it was like a hotel room she’d live in. Luna then began to coax her clothes off, first her shoes were kicked off, then socks, she struggled a bit to pull her pants off while remaining on the bed and then the shirt was easily pulled off and thrown onto the floor. Looking over to her bedside table covered in a small alarm, water bottle and a worn-out book. The table itself was just a panel that folded out of the wall, meant to be compact and cheap. She grasped her PDC Personal Data computer out of its bulky charging port in the wall behind the table, it was a small computer the size of a cigar box meant for personal management and business communications, but was mostly used for watching movies, playing games, accessing the PlaNet, Searching things and porn, Luna assumed the ship had these to negate the cost of carrying porno mags (Probably both mental and financial, cost), But Luna wasn’t bothered about that stuff tonight she just wanted some simple escapism, she flicked the thing on waiting for the loading symbol to finish. It felt like an eternity, but it finally booted but before she could decide what to do, her screen changed to a cartoonish blue and orange fox, who was lying on an overly detailed, tropical beach. He immediately looked at Luna and changed his pose to something more seductive “Sup” V.I.C said with an enlarging grin on his face.

“Hello Vik” Luna replied, with a mix of contained excitement and an internal groan

“Well, thought I’d drop in seeing as it’s been, 16 days, 15 hours and 45.34 seconds. Since our last pow wow” He was grinning with delight, Vik was an Artificial Intelligence, designed to act as employee management, but he was both lax with his job (And the rules) plus he Really enjoyed being a formless being with access to vast knowledge, excellent memory and unbelievable mathematics skills.

“So, what do you want then?” Luna replied watching as he stood up and preformed a stretch, most of his power was now spent on expressing his avatar and presumably calculating the most loveable and hateable persona imaginable.

“Well I was thinking, I use my vast intellect for your benefit!” Vik replied walking to the right into a suddenly appearing, office, “Plus this is company mandated, and I’ve tried everything I could think of trying to get out of it!”

“Do, I have to fill out a mental health form?”

“Nope, you answer my questions here and I’ll forge one that is indistinguishable!” He replied, the small fox pulling an imaginary file from his imaginary filing cabinet, which was apt for Vik he always wanted to show, not Do.

“Great...”

“Don’t be so moany about it! would you rather talk to an HR consultant every few weeks?”

“Well now that you’ve made the suggestion...”

“If you’re going to play that game, I’ll put psychotic on your report”

“You wouldn’t!”

“If I’m annoyed enough, I’ll try” Vik replied, as he sat back down onto the desk, crossing his arms and straightening his back.

“Okay, shoot” Luna said, shuffling under her thin blanket

“Let’s see here... hm... Ah “Do you have any current anxieties or worries?” ...also, this isn’t a yes or no question” Vik explained as he read from the paper on his desk, his eyes moving with exaggeration across the page.

Luna wasn’t sure what to say, she was doing alright, nothing troubling her personally... but what Lucas said... Naomi wasn’t physically adept and Luna didn’t believe that could be something quickly changed, at least with exercise and healthy eating and if Lucas had noticed this issue it meant the higher ups probably would sooner or later and Naomi seemed desperate for this job. Luna should probably broach the subject with Naomi tomorrow, after their shift... maybe grab Adrian and see what he knows about building muscle mass?

“Uh just a small concern about Naomi... Richardson she’s not a typical... Salvage worker” Luna tried to explain, she found it hard to talk about her anxieties like most people, but Vik tried his hardest to be approachable and down to earth. She could imagine in an instant, him scanning through the personal files and using his intuition to decode what Luna was saying, of course by the time Luna had thought if it he’d already done it and had begun speaking.

“Oh... I assume you’re referring to her Physique and or lack of experience in the salvaging or spacewalking?” Vik rattled off, keeping his casual tone.

“Well, she’s just... I’m not sure if she’s going to stay here long... and it seems like she’ll work hard and needs the money, but she’ll probably get fired because most people can work harder, faster and longer” Luna vented, Rubbing her eyes as she felt herself deflate, she hated that feeling on anxiety and even worse it was something she couldn’t do anything to fix.

“Well, first things first, she got the job despite her shortcomings which must mean there’s something for her here! We’re 2 months into a 7-month long voyage and barring extreme cases, nobody has been fired until they’ve concluded their voyage Also, I’m not sure Naomi will be much concern to the upper management” Vik explained as he gesticulated wildly, his grin growing wider with his final cryptic comment. The small fox endowed with endless energy and a thirst to express himself, plus a flair for the dramatic.

Luna felt a good bit better; Vik was smart and usually (When he wanted to be) right and it all seemed logical, then she realized his final comment “What do you mean by that last part Vik?” Luna asked slightly worried by his tone.

“Well, they’ll be busy with a hundred other salvage ships, to notice Naomi’s “productivity” ... Plus I’ll work a little magic” Vik explained, his smile now looking slightly sinister along with his small office growing darker.

“Vik!” Luna exclaimed, worried he’d do something stupid to fulfil what she assumed was his base programming and cause more trouble for Naomi and the entire ship.

“Alright fine I was joking! All I’ll do is massage the numbers; you know? Spin things in our ottery friends' favour! Nothing extreme!” Vik said returning to normal in an instant

“Just keep it to a minimum, don’t think it’s good to rely on manipulating the numbers...”

“Woo! Who said anything about manipulation? Nobody! I was just making vague suggestions... that are innocent and could perhaps being misinterpreted!”

Luna chuckled “I understand, this was all hypothetical and a joke, also I heard nothing”

“That’s correct! Plus, you’re in a better mood now, right?” Vik said returning to his stunning beach background, it wasn’t too alluring to Luna her fur was terrible with sand and heat, she preferred colder climates or air-conditioned Restaurants

“I guess so” Luna replied, watching as Vik lay back down, adopting a seductive pose once again against his towel on the ground.

“Well, I’ve sent over your personal mental health form, so that’s us done here... unless?”

“Hehe, you want something in your Usb port!” Luna joked

“No! I don’t have any Usb ports those were decommissioned 134 years ago, plus... no-offense but... I think we should keep this a professional relationship” Vik replied in a sarcastic formal voice.

“What I’m not your type?” Luna joked

“Well, I prefer Someone with more... copper wiring and semiconductors” Vik said, his paw tracing along the sand Infront of him

“Can you even feel attraction?” Luna asked still smiling

Vik locked eyes with Luna “Well certainly not now!”

“Ouch, thought you were supposed to make me feel better?” Luna countered, pretending to seem hurt

“Can't lie to you to you that much” Vik replied as his tail gently waged

“Well, I guess, I leave you to tell the truth” Luna said as she signalled for the call to end

“And I’ll be back again later to drop more truth bombs!” Vik said, waving to Luna before the video cut out and Luna was left alone again, but slightly happier than before.

Checking her PDC’s Clock it was still only 7:43pm, Why did everything move slow when she wanted things to go fast? Luna thought as she decided to browse what the ship had, they were a million miles away from the PlaNet-work, so the only outside connection was the ships communication systems (which weren’t for official use, she remembered the stories of the Jameson twins) and the bi-weekly data upload, which was slow, unreliable and often crap, all it did was send over copies of news reports, very occasionally newly released films or whatever the guy putting together the transmission though was “Crucial” for people on a isolated star ship.

She opened her connection to the ship’s server, navigating to the news section of files, it was all a dozen or so days out of date: “F.P.R President Lockhart, engages with historic talks with the C.F.C Ambassador” She hoped that was good, hopefully not another stupid war.

“Confederation of Frontier Colonies declares Militias have “Zero influence” on politics” ‘boring’ Luna thought, it was all very mind numbing. News was either boring or depressing... sometimes both.

“Lone Wolves reportedly paid 5,000,000 credits to Provide protection for empress Karo” ‘boring again!’

“Galaxies largest Pie cooked on oculi” ‘What?!’ She had to read more this was something actually eye catching! It was apparently 4Km² and took 2 years of planning, maybe if Naomi could eat that she’d get some meat on her bones! Wait no, she’d just end up obese and they be back to the problem of Naomi’s physique. Although Naomi would look cuter with a little chub, she’d look large have some slightly jiggly thighs and a fuller rear, excellent for squishing or grabbing and maybe a cute little belly roll that hung over her waist band with slight love handles! Eventually her boobs would fill out and her face would get chubbier and maybe after a while of exchanged looks and comments the pair would head to the Mess Hall and Luna would grab everything edible, she could find and start stuffing that sexy little Otter. Watching as her stomach bloated out further, growing more taut and sensitive to the touch, pushing her shirt and pants away further and further, she’d have to strain her back and require constant belly rubs to remain comfortable and everyone would be starring in shock and disbelief as she grew more gravid all while the fluffy moth-fox Engorged her little Otter until she was ready to burs-

‘Got a little too carried away there’ Luna thought, it was an attractive fantasy but currently very excessive, she should probably forget about this.

‘Guess it’s an early bedtime tonight’ Luna thought as she placed her PDC back into its charger and tried to sleep, her mind racing at how fast she went from zero to a hundred there, especially over a co-worker she’d only barely known for two months.

*Beep*

*Beep*

Luna stirred in her bed hearing the alarm, but quickly rose from her place of rest Remembering she had work today, she got up and pulled her underwear off stumbling into the tiny bathroom she had. Squeezing past the sink she entered the shower, watching as the glass door shut behind her. It was barely big enough for Luna on her own, she hit the panel on the inside feeling the warm water rushing over her, the warmness against her fur on her antenna and ears, it was soothing in a way nothing else could be. After a moment of soaking in the feeling of serenity, she then leaned down to grab her shampoo, as she leaned down, she felt her bare ass against the cold metallic wall, but she was able to grab the bottle and let the water restore warmth to her rump. Luna took a large dollop of Shampoo and began rubbing it into her thick and fluffy fur, it made her fur stick into large clumps which helped her brush through it as she let the Shampoo be washed away, along with anything stuck in her coat. She placed the shampoo back on the shower floor and then stood at attention with her legs far apart, while her hand searched for the drying button. As she found it, she jumped as the warm air battered her and quickly dried most of her fur, giving a spin to ensure every inch of her body had been dried. The moth-fox quickly exited the bathroom, her fur reaching maximum levels of fluffiness she grabbed new underwear from her drawer and then pulled on some loose and casual clothes, sweatpants and an oversized t-shirt. Giving a quick look in the mirror and then checking her schedule on the PDC, she memorized what she was doing, more outer space salvaging at least after this it was the weekend. She slipped on a fresh pair of socks, then her worn out sneakers and exited her room plotting a course straight to the Mess Hall for breakfast, maybe she could talk with Naomi and Lucas, introduce the two to each other! Traversing the hall was the same boring endeavour, but it was easy to find the mess hall it was where all the noise would be emanating from. Luna Scratched her head as she followed the arrows, she wondered if she’d burn off calories of her approach breakfast just getting to the Mess Hall, as she wound through the corridors passing mostly Crew quarters, she eventually found the mess hall. It was a massive room filled with a hundred or so tables and chairs, it was densely packed as well, filled with engineers, Salvage crew, security, medical staff and every other occupation on the ship, apart from the officers and upper management they probably had a fine dining room in the bridge where the ate caviar and drank champagne. Luna entered and began scanning for any free seats, before noticing a familiar Otter and Swift fox waving to her, damn! She was looking forward to bringing the pair together. Luna waved back before walking over to the far corner of the room weaving between all the chairs and tables, trying not to intrude on the pre work conversations going on. The far corner was filled with the food dispensers, cutlery and drinks machines, Luna just grabbed a plate and selected the option 1 on the food dispenser, it whirred for a second before depositing two slices of toast and scrambled eggs, Luna quickly grabbed a coffee as well and then scurried over to her waiting colleges. Placing down her plate as she sat down In the empty chair next to Lucas, Luna noticed the pair seemed in relatively good spirits although she wasn’t sure if Lucas had explained the potential issues Naomi had.

“Hey! Was starting to think you’d overslept” Lucas said in between bites of fruit.

“Sorry was just confused again, the ships a maze” Luna replied

“So, another shift today... Miss Luna? Is that right?” Naomi asked, looking slightly confused

“It’s just Luna, my parents were a weird bunch. As for today’s shift it should be simple, just stripping out the remaining interior sections of the ship, then we’ll move onto another!” Luna explained, Lucas continued to chomp on his healthy breakfast while Naomi kept her absolute attention on Luna’s explanations.

“That’s cool!” Naomi exclaimed “you got any interesting facts about yourself Lucas?”

The pair stared at him, making him slightly nervous, “I well... I don’t know” Lucas said trying to lighten the mood “I grew up on a small farm?”

“I’ve always wanted to go to a place like that” Naomi mused

“How so?” Luna asked, as she sliced her toast apart placing egg on the top

“Just somewhere small and quiet, away from the bustle of the galaxy without all the excessive technology” Naomi declared, she seemed somewhat Naive but was still very intelligent, with a quick mind.

“If you’d seen my dad’s farm, I think you’d retract that statement about excessive tech” Lucas joked while laughing “He always had the latest farming equipment! Drones and sensors for his crops! Plus, half a dozen bots to help his bad back in carrying stuff”

“Well, your farm still seems nice!” Naomi said, not meaning to insult Lucas’s family livelihood.

“So, what brought you Here Naomi?” Luna asked trying not to offend her “You’re not like the typical salvage or crewmember?”

“Well, it’s mostly simple, I grew up on this planet that was mostly water, I loved swimming and the sea, so I studied in marine biology. I’m here now just to get some cash and a place to stay while I look for somewhere to put my degree to use” Naomi explained, she seemed proud of herself but not entirely sure of her situation, her voice growing ever so unsteady as she talked about her current employment.

“That’s cool, I never got much education other than the basic stuff” Luna replied as she continued eating her toast and eggs, they tasted cheap and undercooked, but it was better than nothing at all.

“Well, turns out a degree in marine biology isn’t that useful with jobs that aren’t... being a marine biologist.” Naomi joked; she looked a little happier but still seemed cautiously nervous about going back out into the lifeless vacuum of space.

“Well, you’re doing pretty good here so far!” Luna said, as she cleared her plate. Naomi seemingly blushed a little at that complement, she had also finished her breakfast which had been sausage, bacon, eggs and waffles.

Luna assumed that was at Lucas’s suggestion “Alright I should probably get going” Lucas said standing up from the table “Have fun in space” he said giving a wave to the otter and moth as he went for the nearest mess hall exit.

“We should probably get going as well?” Naomi’s asked

“Yep, let's go” Luna said getting up from the table

After dressing down and then suiting up, they exited the air lock and began to return to the ship they were salvaging, the crew of 16 furs each suited in a bulky space suit floated through the expansive black void, barely illuminated by stars billions of miles away. It took a few minutes to reach the derelict hulk, it was a large hexagonal tube, covered in hundreds of different antennas and heat shields including a few empty observation points. They floated alongside the vessel which was half the size of the Scapar and had been mostly stripped bare on around the open hole in the hull, which served as the entrance after the airlock was stripped out and sold. As the group entered the ship, they all began splitting off into smaller groups to work on their own sections.

“We’ll look over where we were, yesterday and then move onto the back section” Luna explained as they slowly moved through the dark corridors, her Otter apprentice close behind and already slightly winded after putting on the suit and getting here.

Entering the site of their handy work, Luna smiled a little she felt proud of her effective and efficient work. Naomi simply waited for orders from Luna, not wanting to take a chance on doing anything wrong.

“So, first things first... you... set up the stuff in next section, I’ll take these metal pillars out to the entrance” Luna explained remembering the otter's lacklustre physical performance.

“No, it’s fine I’ll get these pillars out of the way!” Naomi exclaimed already moving towards the pillars and detaching the tether from one.

“You sure?” Luna was a little worried she was trying too hard, but wasn’t going to go all protective on her, plus she was already trying to do the work.

“Well, I can’t build muscle if you’re doing all the heavy lifting for me!” Naomi’s chuckled as she pulled one of the pillars up, attempting to guide it through the corridor. Luna wanted to try and critique and babysit her, but she hoped this would help Naomi’s confidence and maybe slow down her endless stream of questions.

“Well just be careful and if you die, I’ll kill you!” Luna joked over her comm, as she entered a new section of tight corridors.

“Alright Mom!” Naomi replied in jest, there was some exertion in her voice, but she seemed to have the situation well in hand.

Luna traversed the dark corridors; they were nearly pitch black apart from her suit's lights. She came to a room that caught her eye in the darkness, it entranced her a bright and beautiful blue colour came from within, and the moth was drawn towards it. She had seemingly forgotten about everything, just wanting to admire the light and its beauty. The large crystal looked perfect, it glowed with visible power and energy, it had to be important! And Luna should be the one to “take care of it” she approached the glass case tracing her hand over it. She had pangs of doubt saying she should be working or remain careful around this object, but they were all pushed aside. Luna leaned down to inspect the control panel mounted on the podium that contained her prize, the beautiful gemstone. It was like she’d thought before, it was one of the amazing things that could be found in the galaxy, and it was meant for her.

Realizing there was no power on the control panel, she remembered an old trick she’d learned for getting old mag-sealed doors open on derelict tankers. Luna coaxed the small service panel below the pad open, it was a small jumble of wires and circuit boards that had been dead for years. Luna then reached slowly around her space suit, looking for the external charging port. After finding it in the left thigh of her suit, she pushed it into the wires and then wrapped them around the small snake-like cord. Slapping a button that sat on her thigh which allowed a power transfer from one suit to the other. The console then fired to life, displaying container integrity, heat, pressure and similar stats, along with a warning about insufficient power supply. Luna then spotted the open container button, she wanted to think about whether or not to do it but before Luna could, she already slammed her finger against the button watching as the air hissed out and the thick armoured glass was retracted, freeing the beautiful crystal from its prison. Luna couldn’t wait any longer she pushed her hand against the vacuum grabbing onto the crystal and for a Moment everything felt euphoric then, it felt like her suit was going to explode with tightness before everything faded to black as she fell unconscious, everything happening in less than a second.
